Fool, I'm faulting the Democrats for not taking advantage of this one perfect situation to finally change the way the healthcare system works, and instead trying to pander to Republicans that are never going to vote for them anyway. The two or three Republicans even willing to talk to them immediately turn around and tell their constituencies that the Democrats are trying to murder Grandma, so what's the point? The Democrats need to tell the Republicans to fuck off and focus on getting their own party under control so something useful can happen, instead of a watered-down piece of shit bill that doesn't do anything except waste money and preserve the status quo.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to hate the Republicans, but at least they know how to get shit done when they have the chance.

In addition to the extremism that affects both of them, the Democrat's problem is they can't unify their party very well. The Republicans will universally vote however the party leadership tells them, Democrats are a lot more divided and unpredictable. Part of the reason they aren't very good at getting meaningful stuff done.
