If I recall correctly the Slender Man is usually implied to not really have a "solid" form, or at least has one which most definitely isn't humanoid and it's trying to mimic us akin to how hunters sometimes use fake animal props/costumes, so it'd make a bit of sense if they just took all of 'em and randomized which model you got each time it's called to spawn.
I didn't think that they'd be cycling through models. I assumed that they'd just have one. If they're just having one, then it isn't very hard to put in some effort and create one, but what with how choreful creating assets is, a cyclic slenderman would be best done with community effort.
To me it is.
You are not the entire market.

I never said I was. You aren't either. Believe it or not people get scared outside of Amnesia. Lots of people.
How can we make this scary game about horrible isolation and being stalked by a hideous and inexplicable monster even more scary?
COOP WITH FRIENDS OF COURSE WOWWIE ZOWWIE
Also, I don't get why people say horror games with weapons and jump scares aren't as scary as the opposite.
Sure, jump scares can be pretty cliche and used up, but they are usually done right, and goddamnit you probably saw someone getting murdered right in front of you if none makes you literally jump.
You have weapons, but I don't find it as easy as you make it seem. Imagine something pops out at you and grabs and molests you and wobbles your shit. That + maybe the scare it put on you probably wont make your aim effective enough to shoot straight, and that is if it even would work.
Games like Amnesia are scary, but please, don't exaggerate. You hear the monster growl, and pouff! There you go. Now you know he's after you. The environment although does help set the mood, but it doesn't goes much further after a certain point. It ends being a game of "hiding from the old man while you steal his shit inside his house". After hiding and staying still for a while, he disappears.
Don't get me wrong, its a good game. But don't diss on other horror games that don't have Amnesia's style.
Paranoia-inducing horror elements are the best, weapons or not. The ones that mess with your mind, you'll never be sure if you really saw anything at the end of that dark corridor or not. Footsteps behind you, stuff like that.
Jump scares are only cheap moment scares. When you play such games or watch such media, you get tense because you're expecting the new jumpscare. It's fake horror. Being in suspense and stress because something might jump is totally different from being frightened about this creature who's out to get you. Screamers are scary, but they're not the kind of scary you want in games or movies. This scare also lasts only a few seconds tops while suspense and terror stretches out through most of the game (if it's designed right).
I personally think that the only people who resort to jumpscare horror are people who cannot design a proper horror game. While you can use jumpscares, you should not in any way rely on them as the only horror element. Usage of screamers should be rare and well thought out.
Having a weapon that is ineffective can add to the horror if done right. You feel safe with a gun but when you find out it's useless against that thing you start panicking even more. But this does require a lot of design skills and is not very easy to pull off right.
We are making our own models, we have people on the team to do that. Our Character Artist is creating our own Slenderman model, and playable characters.
We've already found numerous ways to make it scary, and we're focusing on isolation. Players will be split up, voice chat will be cut when you die so you cannot interact with the players that are alive.
I wouldn't really rely on voice chat features as most friends who play coop use external chat apps like skype or mumble or steam voice chat.
Honestly Slenderman is getting so overdone hes not even scary anymore
I'm kind of getting sick of shitty indie games that take the work of a whole 2 days becoming so popular
I mean, i know slender took some effort to create but it doesn't deserve the HUGE amount of praise it gets.. I fail to find a low-poly model of slenderman behind me scary

Yeah, but that kind of takes out some of the horror aspect.

I was watching slenderman before entry #30 of marble hornets (I'm so hip).
It's a shame that Slender has totally ruined the Slenderman franchise though, because no one takes it seriously anymore, it's lost its touch.

Please make sure the tree models are bigger / the foliage is thicker, in the Source version I can see way too far for it to be scary.
You should add, when Slenderman is closer to a player their voice chat will start getting quieter, and there will be a lot of static.
more tree models, yo
Also you should disable text chat when someone dies. That would make it really creepy if you can't tell if your buddy died or not.

Jesus, why are people so fucking dense? He is not supposed to scare you himself, it's the atmosphere.

Yeah I am definitely aware of this need for better tree models and have been continuously informing the team to get custom tree models. I plan on overhauling all of them into custom models before we go open beta (or at least before release).

To Spore:
Chat gets disabled when you get too far from someone from what I understand, and voice from the mic will fade in and out depending on the distance between the players.
