have you even seen the test they give? fucking I bet 3/4 of the american FPers on here couldn't pass it. and why should they have to learn english? did you ever learn cherokee or any other native american dialect?
did I? Never. Reason: I don't live in an area that speaks in any of those dialects. However I did have to learn English. As for why they should learn English? Go order a hamburger in Hebrew and see if they understand you. (No offence to Jewish people.) Most of the Nation speaks English, how do you expect to get any where in the US not knowing English without a translator?
do I what
Did you ever learn any Native American dialects?
Did you ever learn any Native American dialects?
no do you see the point I'm making? why should they HAVE to learn english just because it's the most spoken language doesn't mean they should be forced to learn it. [editline]11:32PM[/editline]
As for why they should learn English? Go order a hamburger in Hebrew and see if they understand you. (No offence to Hebrews.)
no do you see the point I'm making? why should they HAVE to learn english just because it's the most spoken language doesn't mean they should be forced to learn it.
I'm going to speak in Latin for the rest of my life and call everyone racist when they ask me to speak English!
no do you see the point I'm making? why should they HAVE to learn english just because it's the most spoken language doesn't mean they should be forced to learn it. [editline]11:32PM[/editline] and most people in the US are white and christian what's your point?
What's my point? Have you been ducking? My point should be obvious. In the US we speak English, in Mexico and Spain, Spanish. in China, Chinese. If you want to get anywhere in any of this countries You need to learn their language. How would you like it if I posted in a different language? I shouldn't have to post in English should I?
no do you see the point I'm making? why should they HAVE to learn english just because it's the most spoken language doesn't mean they should be forced to learn it. [editline]11:32PM[/editline] and most people in the US are white and christian what's your point?
Native American dialects aren't the most spoken language in America, and haven't been for probably 150 years. Try moving to Afghanistan and try to tell people that you don't need to learn to speak Afghani or whatever language they have. See how far that gets you.

[editline]08:46PM[/editline] Hebrew is rarely used outside prayers and synagogue for most, so that's a poor comparison.
Hebrew is the language, Jews are the people you are trying to refer to.
Ah, Thank you.
It would be more common to see Jews speak Yiddish instead. [editline]08:47PM[/editline] (as a means of communication)

[editline]11:52PM[/editline]
Try moving to Afghanistan and try to tell people that you don't need to learn to speak Afghani or whatever language they have.
and it doesn't matter if most people in the US speak English. the US doesn't have an official language and there's no law stating you must learn/speak English.
Communication is the most basic form of sharing information with each other. Why hinder the process? Instead of Americans having to learn Spanish for the immigrants, Chinese for those owning the buffets, and a few other languages... why not everyone learn the commonly accepted language of the area? Why make things complicated when it can be oh-so-easy?
try making more irrelevant comparisons what does Afghanistan have to do with the USA
You missed the point of the post.
Afghanistan has two official languages.. US has none. [editline]11:54PM[/editline]
Communication is the most basic form of sharing information with each other. Denken Sie, dass Sie weit, sprechend oder bekannt gebend so in Amerika erhalten können?
a lot of immigrants do in fact learn English.. it's not like every one of them never bothers to. regardless, they shouldn't be FORCED to learn English if they want to stay here.
So, since they won't learn the commonly accepted language, we have to accommodate them by having to learn an entirely new language to appease a select minority of the people (being, the non-English speaking people of the country)? Can you speak Spanish to communicate with these people?
glaber, don't even start with that childish shit. [editline]11:57PM[/editline]
So, since they won't learn the commonly accepted language, we have to accommodate them by having to learn an entirely new language to appease a select minority of the people (being, the non-English speaking people of the country)?
where the fuck did I say that? if they don't learn English then that's their problem. and have you seen the citizenship test questions? you have to be able to understand English to some degree in order to pass it.
glaber, don't even start with that childish shit. [editline]11:57PM[/editline] where the fuck did I say that? if they don't learn English then that's their problem. and have you seen the citizenship test questions? you have to be able to understand English to some degree in order to pass it.
Yes, I've seen the questions. I've both seen and taken a mock test (and passed it). My mother, who is a LEGAL immigrant from the Philippines, took the test and passed it. My mother's friends, who are LEGAL immigrants from the Philippines, took it and passed it. It's not as hard as you make it out to be. EDIT:
You aren't really putting forth a good argument here. [editline]08:59PM[/editline] grasping at strawwwwwsssss
It's hard making a good argument when the original argument (ie: Accepting Illegal Immigrants) is shaky and shoddy at best.
Yes, I've seen the questions. I've both seen and taken a mock test (and passed it).
glaber, don't even start with that childish shit.
Fine, but Tyranny of the majority doesn't fly when it comes to language. You are either understood, or sound like you're speaking gibberish. Oh and this is what I said in german: Think you can get far speaking or posting like this in America?
Fine, but Tyranny of the majority doesn't fly when it comes to language. You are either understood, or sound like you're speaking gibberish.
yeah it does apply. your argument is that because the majority of people in the US speak English that all immigrants should be forced to learn it. that's tyranny of the majority.
Oh and this is what I said in german: Think you can get far speaking or posting like this in America?
that's their problem
Hell yeah lets just let everyone come into our country as they please what could go wrong!?
and it takes more than just passing the test to become a citizen
I was merely referring to the one facet about being a citizen that you yourself brought up in your post here:
and have you seen the citizenship test questions? you have to be able to understand English to some degree in order to pass it.
EDIT: "That's their problem" is your attitude. In that case, I say that being bi-lingual should NOT give you an advantage in the workplace. That's an unfair advantage and, remember, equal opportunity to the non multi-linguals!
Hell yeah lets just let everyone come into our country as they please what could go wrong!?
yeah, because someone said or implied that.
yeah it does apply. your argument is that because the majority of people in the US speak English that all immigrants should be forced to learn it. that's tyranny of the majority.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum Is a better term in an argument.
I was merely referring to the one facet about being a citizen that you yourself brought up in your post here:
they obviously know at least some English if they can pass the test
yeah, because someone said or implied that.

shows how xenophobic and idiotic people are
Yeah not letting illegal immigrants in our country makes us xenophobic and idiotic
Was a good bill.
One of the few bills I support, and it just so happens all of Facepunch is against it. Don't worry bro, we can stick together.
Yeah not letting illegal immigrants in our country makes us xenophobic and idiotic
lol I'm talking about the immigration bill passed in Arizona. have you even read about it? racial profiling, violating civil liberties, etc. is not acceptable the method they have legislated is what I dislike. stop grasping for straws.
lol I'm talking about the immigration bill passed in Arizona. have you even read about it? racial profiling, violating civil liberties, etc. is not acceptable
Instead of reading about it, it's better to actually read it.
they obviously know at least some English if they can pass the test
I'm confused. Why are you making this sound like a bad thing? Learning something that will ultimately help you, as opposed to moving to this country and being crippled because no one can understand you?
