UPDATE (08/02): Minor update-- Sources now point to shooting likely starting in the coming weeks or so. (Close enough though.) Thanks to Mr. Ragone for contacting us with corrections. Expect more soon as production ramps up. August Ragone (author of Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monsters) has picked up a scoop that Toho's latest Godzilla film has started will soon begin principle photography! This news is further supported by a recent call for extras in the Kanto area (or Greater Tokyo Area) between September through November. Takayuki Takeya is also rumored to have been tasked with sculpting the production maquette of Maeda's Godzilla design. Takeya is likely one of the most influential designers in the world, working on films, games and collectables from Final Fantasy VII to Star Wars. Takeya recently worked with Higuchi on the live action Attack on Titan films. Mr. Ragone's anonymous source claimed, “(This new) Godzilla is based on the original (1954 version), but is going to be... frightening.” In many ways the 1954 design is the definitive version of Godzilla: It was the first and in many ways the most horrific. The idea of updating the look has long been a wish for some hardcore fans.
isnt hideaki anno helping with this one? [editline]3rd August 2015[/editline] oh shit hes writing and directing this one
It should be really good, Anno's a huge tokusatsu nerd. Even made his own Ultraman fanfilm back in the eighties starring himself.
can neither confirm nor deny
I love that shit eating smirk Big G is having on the OP.
I am all aboard if Anno is the lead on this.
can neither confirm nor deny
I bet Zillamaster hates you for your name
Can't wait to let the film focus on a sad and depressing character until he is suddenly killed off 30 minutes into the film, and then the focus is shifted on his fucking boring no character son. Oh wait, that was the American version.
FUCKING FORD BRODY 2010 Godzilla is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. CLOVERFIELD was fucking better than that shit. I go in, thinking, okay this scientist dude is our lead character. He's interesting and he's going to uncover this whole thing and then Godzilla will wreak havoc and he'll have to save the day. Then, his fucking stupid ass son comes into play with his dumbass fucking leather jacket and USMC background, and then [sp]Walter White Dies[/sp]. So it's like "okay? Now this dude with the most generic american name ever, FORD BRODY, is the main character". Then you see a huge monster and you're like HELL YEAH LAS VEGAS IS GONNA GET FUCKED UP and just before the destruction, they cut the entire scene out and all you see is the thing walking away with the city destroyed. The fucking monsters were only about 5% of the screentime, and the only big fight scene or big scene with all the destruction in it and city smashing was in the last 10 minutes of the movie Nobody gives a fuck about the USMC Nobody gives a fuck about Ford Brody Nobody gives a fuck about anything that happens in a monster movie EXCEPT FOR THE FUCKING MONSTERS

It's completely rumors at the moment, hence why I wasn't the one to post it. Maeda's art is pretty good, but my fear is how he'd treat the design. His kaiju in Ultraman Powered were just "make the teeth bigger and make them more wrinkly".
i really hope they go with a design similar to GMK's godzilla suit like look at that, holy shit
Oh noe!!!
I think it was trying to be like the original Godzilla and focus on the human aspect of a monster disaster too bad the human element was boring as hell
Actually, the original really nailed it. Especially when you look at how it was in reality a call against nuclear war/testing. This latest one is just a "we gottas to stehp this monstar before it ruins all our america!" film. Much like the 1998 version.

The original Godzilla film was not entirely on focus on the monsters. That's like complaining that Earthquake is about the characters, when the titular scene is only for a few minutes.
Nobody gives a fuck about anything that happens in a monster movie EXCEPT FOR THE FUCKING MONSTERS
It WAS however a Godzilla film. The human element was boring as hell (but that's not uncommon in the Toho films either!), it was still far superior than the 1998 shitfest. All the original films have the human elements to tie the story together - most don't have monster scenes filling any more than 15-25 minutes (at most) of the runtime. Even a man in a suit is expensive.
Everyone should see Return of Godzilla, it's the best among the lines of '54. Don't see the Americanized version, it sucks balls except for Raymond Burr

idk i thought it was pretty sick? granted i've never watched a godzilla movie or even a monster movie b4 and i only watched it because my uni was showing it in the student center for free [editline]4th August 2015[/editline] i was mainly reacting to how much of an overreaction i thought that post was [editline]4th August 2015[/editline] sounded like godzilla 2014 killed his father or something [sp]HA HA HA[/sp]
The 2014 movie was bad mainly because they kept cutting away from the Godzilla moments to focus on the humans who aside from Joe were boring and uninteresting. iirc Godzilla in that movie had less than 20 minutes of overall screen time, though when they actually let us see Godzilla it was friggin awesome like that climax fight. I just hope this new Godzilla film will either show Godzilla for most of the movie or split the human and monster scenes up 50/50 but make the humans actually interesting.
>50% of monsters seems like a hell of a lot. but I have faith in Anno either way.
50% is a good amount. It could be reduced to 30% or so of movie time and it would be fine assuming the human characters are sorta interesting. Having the titular monster not even appearing in 20% of the move (I think?) and having the rest focused on mostly boring characters is bad.

The amount of Godzilla, I'll argue, was totally fine. They were trying to very carefully balance how much you saw because they wanted to make sure the impact of the finale and everything had the right weight. If you had seen Godzilla for a full 30 minutes before the finale, it'd have been routine by then and that would suck too.
