They should start using "XL" models like this: http://curveinspire.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lexi-placourakis.jpg Instead of "normal" models like this: http://tvmedia.ign.com/tv/image/article/790/790409/americas-next-top-model-season-8-20070521052644999.jpg Pictures not tagged to save the most sensitive people from the horrors of underwear.
I find the anorexic models disgusting as well but those "XL" models still have a good looking face and proportions. Weight is actually something you can mostly control yourself. Being skinny doesn't always equate to being healthy as being chubby doesn't always equate to being unhealthy but I see nothing wrong in propagating working out and a healthy diet. They should use average women for ads so women could identify with them better than with a distant ideal.
Agree man. I once discussed this with some friends of mine, and I decided to compare male-magazines(FHM, Maxim etc) and female magazines. The magazines directed towards males were all about babes, hobbies, cars and gadgets(and some fashion stuff). Now, when I looked at magazines for females, many of them had: "Be sexy, you have to have this piece of expensive clothing to look good, be slim, do botox, plastic surgery, improve yourself" plastered over the cover. It's hammered into their brain almost from birth that they are not good enough, and need to constantly improve themselves. Now, even some male-magazines are doing this too. It's very unhealthy, and will lead to heaps of depressed people that think they're never good or "sexy" enough.
O traditional gender roles, how advertising has turned you into the norm of society...

I'm sadly not one of those women. :( And for everyone going "hurr durr women do it for attention!!" you can rightly fuck off until you actually have incredibly bad self-esteem and self-image problems!
So for reference I decided to make a list of any and all females in this thread and their thoughts, feelings, and opinions:

I bet the same poll for guys would show slightly lower results, like 5 out of eight or 4 out of 8 say they do not think they are attractive. Society pressures women in a way that makes them think that looks mean everything, while society implies that men can be judged by a lot more than simple physical looks.
I tell women i masturbate to them all the time, its very appreciated
jesus fucking christ i don't even i don't even know where to begin with this oh god [editline]23rd April 2012[/editline] [editline]23rd April 2012[/editline] look the idea of a "perfect female body" just doesn't exist. "Be skinny, but make sure you're fat in the butt and boobs, because otherwise you're unwomanly!" "even if you have boobs and a butt, but aren't teeny tiny in the thighs, arms, and waist, you're too fat, and therefore unwomanly!" If you live your life dictated by what the media (and suckers who buy into that media image) tell you, you'll always be "too" something, "not __ enough," and never good enough. The female ideal, in our culture, is impossible. It is photoshopped, made-up, unobtainable, skinny but fat in all the right places, corseted, backlit, dyed, plastic, bleached, and waxed past the point of any "real" womanhood. No one can ever meet the ideal: even the models who pose for it are airbrushed and mutilated under a cursor in photoshop, or are put under the knife to be made "more like" their own photoshopped images. It's absurd, unhealthy, and damaging
you're the best
Post your picture please so we can judge if your low self esteem is justified.
Do you realize how Self-Esteem works?
Oh, HAHA! Just like on top gear?
Stewart Lee?
Post your picture please so we can judge if your low self esteem is justified.
Do you realize how dumb that is "Let me tell you, the external person, HOW YOU SHOULD FEEL, and why I can invalidate your feelings with MY interpretation of one picture"
I've always found it both amusing & deeply sad that commercials for dieting always portray a female dieter who already carries an ideal body weight.
That's why it's always a good idea to regularly remind your girl she's hot as fuck.
unfortunately this isn't going to make them feel better. constant compliments from just one person won't improve self-esteem, because they are expected compliments.
Post your picture please so we can judge if your low self esteem is justified.
Slam your head into the wall then send a picture so we can judge if your in enough pain
7 more for me.:quagmire:
Awwww yeah. Time to lower your standards, ladies, 'cause here comes Mr. "Good Enough."
So wait, how many female members are there on facepunch? I know there can't be alot but still
So wait, how many female members are there on facepunch? I know there can't be alot but still
I don't think there's that many. D: But it's hard to tell because via the normal profiling 0_0 since people who post like this tend to not last very long around here. -___-
My friends are like this, I know a lot of handsome girls and they always put themselves down. To tell one of them they're beautiful they always go "awh thanks but I'm not", you can't win. And with all these shitty magazines everywhere encouraging girls to literally starve themselves to look beautiful is fucking absurd, curves are better than bone accept it. Magazines should really stop with this bullshit IMO
This is so god damn messed up. Only 5% of the total female population has the 'perfect' body type, and most starve themselves. Its really fucking messed up. I don't find women that could be confused with branches attractive, don't like the barbie look. They don't look human, they look like manikins being shown off and that's exactly how advertising wants me to think. FUCK. And by making me think like that, I mean making me think of them in terms of just their bodies and acting like they're objects.
In my opinion, who cares how one looks. It's how they act that sets them apart from the animals. You could be the best looking person in the world, but having a shit attitude will make you uglier than a baby pug. Don't lie, baby pugs look like fucking brain matter. Unfortunately I'm one person out of several hundred million. I can't undo the brainwashing the media has shoved down the throats of the population. Both men and women are subject to this kind of crap (Yes, men are subject to media and body type too, y'know). corgis.
Are they genuinely feeling unattractive or are they just saying that like so many other generic classics like "I'm fat".
from experience, most of those girls actually feel shit about 5 extra kilograms
If I give a girl a compliment about her natural physical appearance it seems like I'm coming on to her in that douchetool kind of way. It's like that here.
I'd like to know how many men consider themselves attractive. That ought to be an interesting statistic.
When people say "Damn I look fat in this picture" my mind goes: "Jesus Christ, I would rail the fuck out of you why do you think you are fat?!"
I'd like to know how many men consider themselves attractive. That ought to be an interesting statistic.
I think I am on good days, but not on bad days. I think I am okay
at least they have something to strive for
We live in a male based society where all the priorities of men are the base concern of the world. Most notably is in advertisements focusing on women that generally tell them to be more and more beautiful fr men, there's even a trend towards looking younger and younger(Look at the growing trend of shaving pubic hair, how many porn searches are for 18yo/amateur women or hell even This thread). No wonder women don't think they're beautiful because of their inevitable hair and how they'll never be young and subsequently pretty. That entire system has been adopted into advertising, using it as fuel to sell shit to women. Ironically it's been turned towards men to sell them shit too.
They should start using "XL" models like this: http://curveinspire.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lexi-placourakis.jpg
That isn't curvy, that's straight up fat plus its not hard to lose weight if you're fat in the first place so you're only really fucked if you have an ugly face not even makeup can save
I know it's societal pressure that makes girls feel this way but I have no sympathy for a girl who's too stupid to realize she's attractive
