how the hell can you call that fat?
that's as ideal as it gets.
sure maybe for you
sure maybe for you
Dude, what the hell?
"Fat" is having a double chin, a belly of the size of a barrel or something along those lines, that's not fat at all
talking more about the second bit
ideal is completely subjective, that's what the whole argument was about
Jesus Christ complimenting people doesn't need to have a motive nor does it need to be a cheat code, that way of thinking is "Nice Guy" mentality.
simply giving someone light compliments does not make me someone who thinks girls are mathematical functions that I can put the right number into to get the right value of x
This, I hate it when I am just being me and people think I'm hitting on them. I feel this is why some people here are saying blanket statements about women being stuck up
Thats because girls who say they are pretty to themselves get called conceited whores.

Oh, then it makes much more sense
Damn, forgot how hard it is to be satirical on facepunch.
threads on low self-esteem are not the place for satire
Most girls I see around are pretty attractive. They're not models, but they're certainly pretty. I can't stand all of this self-image problem bullshit. I know it's the fault of most media right now, but they really need to get over it.
We live in a male based society where all the priorities of men are the base concern of the world. Most notably is in advertisements focusing on women that generally tell them to be more and more beautiful fr men, there's even a trend towards looking younger and younger(Look at the growing trend of shaving pubic hair, how many porn searches are for 18yo/amateur women or hell even This thread). No wonder women don't think they're beautiful because of their inevitable hair and how they'll never be young and subsequently pretty.
That entire system has been adopted into advertising, using it as fuel to sell shit to women. Ironically it's been turned towards men to sell them shit too.
I see it as more of an, "Image" based society more than a, "Male" driven society.
If you look at the media and expectations for men, a lot of men are expected to work out, be tough, never cry, and like hardcore things. Not to mention you never see overly chubby men or average guys advertising for beauty products as well.

hehe is this satire? 'cause this statement seems pretty objective.
the only thing that is definitely like, set in stone needs to be there for me is hips
not like, plump hips with love handles, just that general shape that curves outwards at the waist area
otherwise you sorta just look like you have a dude body with nice boobs/butts
Nope. I was one of them(not fat but very skinny and lazy), and I don't want to go back. It's healthy to work out, but there's some that overdo it.
I remember reading about a muscular form of anorexia(I don't remember what it's called), but it was people who constantly needed to look buff and muscly. They never ate anything with carbohydrates and were generally weak and ill all the time, even if they looked super buff.
Muscle dysmorphia.

Uh the image for men is also hard to live up to. Some super buff badass rich dude who is constantly achieving sex? Yeah easy as pie.

yeah but the thing for men is that it literally doesn't matter. it exists but it is not nearly as difficult as it is for women, because men do not care as much about their image, and girls care more about their own image than that of men. so it's not really even worth comparing because there is such a dichotomy

it's worse for women so we shouldn't care about men
it's worse for women so we shouldn't care about men
honestly, yes. it's an inconvenience, not a life controlling factor.

I wish it was that easy, for many of us it feels like it's ingrained into us now. When you've been told for years and years that you're inferiour to this image, be it subconsciously through the media or just through other girls who want to put you down, it's hard to break that pattern of thinking. I agree it's irritating when someone completely refuses compliments all the time and complains endlessly out loud but the issue itself isn't something you can just switch off.
Neither gender should be objectified or have stereotypes placed on them.
To give it lax for one gender because 'they don't have it as bad' is a foolish statement.
it's got nothing to do with gender, some people are just craving for attention in a pretty awful manner
I thought the thread was about women.
I'm not exactly sure how my situation compares to yours, but both me and my girlfriend have been acting like that ever since we started dating. She wears make-up when she sees me (if she has time), I've been more aware of what I'm wearing and how my hair looks, etc. She's started doing abs (she's in track, but she's admitted that she wants to look/feel good for me), and I've been running and working out more regularly.
Now I don't know if either of us have "changed" attitude-wise, but just trying to look and feel better for each other (not to mention just being healthier in general) doesn't feel too wrong at all. If anything, I think, it shows how much two people can care about each other enough to make positive changes.
This was a bit different. I remember her housemate telling me that she noticed it as well and that she found it quite scary at the time.
It was like she suddenly started looking at herself more critically and was convinced that she was unattractive. It didn't seem like a case of trying to make an effort for me, it was more like she didn't like the way she looked but had been ignoring it up until then.
Some people are just so convinced that they are ugly that they don't believe any compliments you give them.

Hips are good because they improve childbirth or something along those lines, nothing wrong with that at all. I'm pretty sure that that one is hard coded into our genetics.

The beauty culture is really out of hand though. They always seem either overly conceited, or not confident enough. What some people consider "fat" is pretty normal to me, and sticks are just disgusting. I've got to have something to hold onto don't I?

yes, but pratically speaking, if the first sentence is what you want to reach, then you should worry about women, not men
yes, but pratically speaking, if the first sentence is what you want to reach, then you should worry about women, not men
Maybe this is just me, but I think that generally people think that men are less complicated than women and that we all like the same thing. Therefore to be attractive to men, women have to match the "what men want" template.
I could be completely wrong, but it's the impression I get.
yes, but pratically speaking, if the first sentence is what you want to reach, then you should worry about women, not men
True, but making it worse before making it better is the last possible thing that should happen.
im sexy and i know it
