American soldier kills Afghans: financial stress, brain injury, marital problems, no promotion. Afghan soldier kills Americans: Evil and hatred.
There is a big difference between a shooting that is attributed to mental illness and a shooting that is motivated by religious extremism.
Once you get passed the sensationalist gutter press, there is some compassion for the average taliban solider - as the majority of them are poor farmers tricked into believing their homeland is being invaded. It's a sad war on all fronts.
The Taliban are really the only force capable of standing up to the US. The Taliban are absolutely despicable, but I can understand why people would join them. If your family has been murdered in their sleep and were simply called "collateral damage" then you have a right to be pissed off. The US shouldn't be sending young people to go die for some idiotic shit like this and the Afghan people deserve better than to be mutilated and brutalized. [editline]24th March 2012[/editline]
Oh believe I do remember that, it's just amazing that this kind of rampant stupidity is accepted. This guys went through hell fighting a war that he probably doesn't want to fight and he snapped under the crushing pressure and now folk are judging him without ever being in his situation. I fucking cannot stand it, this guy went there and tried his fucking hardest to help people in the name of the American public and when the inevitable happens they turn their back and want him dead, it's fucking bullshit.
Yes he went through some bad shit, but that doesn't mean that he should just walk free without punishment. The military also needs to be monitored much more closely on how they transfer soldiers and whatnot, especially when people like this get sent into warzones. I feel sorry for him and all the members of the armed forces who go through hell, but everyone seems to be forgetting the 16 Afghans lying dead for no other reason than being in the wrong place at the wrong time, which funnily enough was their home.
