compare them side by side. personally i find the stereo mixes just strange and unnatural.
why would they do this? I mean some of the stereo ones in that video aren't so bad, others are horrific How are the two living Beatles not raging?
Stereo mixes CAN be good. But they're more than often not, a lazy engineer will just pan some tracks hard left and others hard right and call it 'stereo', it's complete utter bullshit. I have a stereo mix of the doors first album, and of the Pet Sounds album from the Beach Boys and I can without doubt say mono is better. Basically what you usually get is drums on your left, bass on your right, guitars on both sides/one side depending on how many guitars, and vocals in the centre. In real stereo mixes drums and bass are usually in the centre.

I had never compared them to the mono side-by-side.
I hate the debate between Mono and Stereo in all honesty both of them are good in their own respect. I love both the Mono and Stereo
I hate the debate between Mono and Stereo in all honesty both of them are good in their own respect. I love both the Mono and Stereo
It really heavily depends on the mixing of the album for me. For example, Please Please Me in stereo just sounds.. odd. Especially the title track itself. I however, love the atmosphere stereo brings for Sgt. Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour, and Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn. I have to admit though, panning the drum track towards one speaker gets REALLY annoying sometimes.
man the stereo mixes just sound weird. the bass is blaring in your ear on one side while the drums blare in the other.
Those types of stereo mixes are generally made to be heard through speakers, not headphones.
Vinyls are pretty durable. I have quite a that are 40 years old and they play just fine. You'd be surprised, they're not as fragile as you may think.
If you have a nice turntable that has a counter weight and anti skate tone arm, as long as you dont play the album over and over it should last a life time
So what is the bitrate on those vinyls? 256k? Because if it's less than that it's a ripoff.
So what is the bitrate on those vinyls? 256k? Because if it's less than that it's a ripoff.
There is no bitrate. Physical, analog mediums don't have bitrates. It is safe to assume that they were mixed down in a 48kHz 32-bit environment using digital transfers of the original recordings, and that's what made it to vinyl.
so how does this work? One headphone side gets no audio? excuse me for not understanding audio things
no, both sides get the same audio. the thing with the vast majority of the beatles catalouge is that stereo was usually an afterthought at best when stereo was new and so it was mostly just gimmicky shit that doesn't sound good. Aside from the last couple of records, you were intended to hear them in mono.
do they have good quality digital versions of their music in mono?
yeah, they released box sets of both stereo and mono remasters a few years ago on CD.
do they have good quality digital versions of their music in mono?
of course, you can even find some good vinyl rips on the internet if you want to hear them in their original format. thought that's of questionable legality.
