I'm quite happy with AVG as my main suite myself. Though I suppose it doesn't matter when you have multiple suites and over 10 different types of scanners.
I find common sense, and noscript help alot too.
My laptop has this going on right now.
Well I don't use it much but I'm not happy with it either.
Common sense is the best anti-virus, but what about websites that install shit without your consent?
Still, there's no reason why you shouldn't run an antivirus. Accidents happen, and malware can infect you in many different ways.
It's better to have protection "just in case"
AVG Free FTW.
Damn I am lucky, I deleted McAfee just one or two days before this happened.

No.
Aren't they meant to test these things before release?

I don't use antivirus.
How are these 800000+ people update McAfee to fix this problem if their computers reboot after 30 seconds and network services are deactivated?
And yes, I know they could just reformat and start from scratch, but I don't think all of those users want to lose all their data just for a stupid error McAfee made.
safe mode
McAfee

You're an idiot. Yes you can get away with not using one if you're careful, but most people would rather have something which will save them some grief on the odd occasion where they run something they haven't checked out. You're also forgetting that some computers are shared, it's no good you being knowledgeable about what you should or should not download when some idiot in your family uses the computer and gets it infected.

This.
And also, you'd be surprised by how much malware today is executed through exploits. Even having up to date versions of your browser, Adobe Reader, etc., you're still at a risk from 0-day malware. (Also, apps like Adobe Reader are full of holes, and it takes forever for Adobe to patch them up)

I sometimes like to throw some of these links at Comodo for testing/fun. Nothing has ever gotten through.

Yeah and then someone without that uses you computer and screws everything over
*Looks at taskbar*
*Sees McAfee icon*
*Runs away*
AVG > McAfee
AVG > McAfee
AVG is just as shitty.
I guess nobody here has actually seen tests on AVG's performance.

Right

Wrong.

These are pretty recent, from December '09.
I'm running McAfee and XP SP3 and I am fine. I'll just be sure not to install any updates.

I've seen that. It came 12/16... Are you arguing that that's good? Because all that shows is that it most other anti-viruses outperform it.
But anyway, when I said "performance", I meant how well it works with viruses. Since we're going with AV-Comparitives tests:

15/19 isn't that great. McAfee even did better.
I have this program installed, fuck

No.
I just wanted to share this.
