Looks like something I'd watch stoned
This is just Cloverfield with some Crysis 2 story blended in. Just without Prophet/Alcatraz.
I guess it's probably worth trying to watch though.
Seems interesting, but I don't think I'd pay to go watch it at the movies

But seriously I plan on watching this and enjoying giant cheesy robots fighting giant cheesy monsters. I'm not going to go see this expecting a gripping drama filled story, and if there is one... well that's a bonus!
someone gets the idea
you guys are taking the film way too seriously
I'm getting a pretty big Metal Fatigue vibe from the mechs, I like them. Would have much preferred the voice to sound more... Military, I guess, like the suit voice in Crysis.
Its like people are expecting this movie to have a plot or something
I think people would have appreciated her being in this just fine without copying Valve's processing.
The entire movie is meant to be an homage to giant monsters and giant robots. So why worry about taking it seriously? Some movies aren't meant to be taken seriously.
TO me this looks like transformers 3. And Why would you make a humanoid giant mech. Use somethin I don't know... SMARTER

is it really that difficult to understand, seriously guys, you just can't pit a (more) realistic walking tank-style design a lá BF2142 or Mechwarrior against an eight-armed godzilla that breathes burning mercury. if you throw practical/realistic and cheesy into the same mess your chances at failing to deliver are much higher than if you crank the Cheesy knob up to eleven and have the radioactive crab octopus wrestle an oversized Iron Man with stars and stripes painted all over it
The soundtrack should be Back in Black, just Back in Black on repeat.
I honestly think the whole concept of the movie is kinda dumb, adding GlaDOS doesn't exactly help it
Hopefully not worse than Battleship
Same shit, different title.

You could go super-silly realistic and just have the monsters be simply bombed to hell through a whole lot of drone-launched missiles or something

What were you expecting? It makes as much sense as monster island or whatever it was called in the Godzilla films.
I'm still hoping that somewhere down the line somebody makes a decent Megas XLR movie. That would be so good. Giant robots beating the shit out of other giant robots/aliens with corny jokes thrown in.
This film is about as close as we'll ever get, plus the whole piloting system is a lot like what Megas had in the future when Kiva pinched it from the Glorft, and it seems to basically fight the same way as Megas does, by fisting everything in the face until it falls over and stops breathing.
Although it still needs a Magnanimous cameo.

What, so basically they should remake Cloverfield?
never heard of this
The way the two dudes in the mech thing control it is just super silly.
I just want to see giant robots beat the shit out of giant monsters. Why is everyone overanalyzing this shit?
It's too much like my animes, but not good enough like my animes, and should be more like my animes

Joazz gets it.
The rest of these people? They don't get it.
What I don't get is why people think every movie needs to be taken seriously. Yes, there are some cerebral action films, but there are also movies where you're supposed to just turn off your brain and enjoy the show. If you can't do that, then don't fucking watch this movie. End Of Story.

Its got giant robots with rocket powered fists. I'm watching regardless of whether or not I take it seriously.

yeah but films are like politics, take things to the extreme and no-one has fun anymore
Guillermo del Toro is one of my favorite directors, I hope it turns out to be as decent as it looks

Honestly I only thought the trailer looked decent up until the mecha were introduced. Then it just got stupid. I was really liking the "classic monster movie meets otherworldly destructo-terror" thing that it was setting up. It was like Godzilla had sex with The Mist.

Fuck it, let's have WH40K style walking battle cathedrals which can shoot at things in outer space to buggery duke it out with impossible Lovecraftian daemon creatures. Earth will burn regardless but we're going out with a fight.
why not change the fucking voice like in a tiny smidge
stop trying to rake in portal fans jesus christ, its not like the Guillermo explicitly said "yeah the voice of glados should be the AI voice yeah exactly the exact same thing, yeah"
