That's fucked. Where does that happen?
I was in the Congo, but its a middle African cultural thing that is common amongst some tribal societies.
Kind of selfish that you somehow turned this horror story into "grr feminists"
Wanting more light shed onto real world issues such as FGM instead of having people waste their time and money shedding light on mansplaining and manspreading is definitely selfish, thanks for the insight.
I was in the Congo, but its a middle African cultural thing that is common amongst some tribal societies.
... is that like a coming of age thing?
... is that like a coming of age thing?
Yup, that or getting married. [editline]22nd December 2016[/editline]
So then like, how do they keep their population steady?
They can still have sex with a dick covered in scars... they just shave off the skin, its a circular cut around the base of the shaft and then a cut from the top all the way down to the head and they peel off the skin. it scars up like a really bad circumcision and all the way down. (if it does not infect)
"There are some churches here which encourage their followers to circumcise their girls but things are changing, so nowadays they do it secretly." There are many who believe that circumcision is required by religion and also expected from those within their own communities.
This is terrible y'all.
All I said is that you can care about more than one thing. What an astonishing concept.
Of course they "care" about it. The problem is that they continue to care more and actively "fight" against shit that doesn't matter. "You can care about many things" is not a defense for feminists who apparently care more about non-issues because that's all they bother trying to protest

"You can care about many things" is not a defense for feminists who apparently care more about non-issues because that's all they bother trying to protest
Feminists are not the only ones to be blamed for ignorance of world events or issues. You're just nitpicking a group you're already angry about to further inflate your anger about them. These sorts of stories get bypassed by a huge majority of people when they don't actively live in the area that's being affected. Either because of the story not being shared in the appropriate social circles by the few who do follow every single news story of fucked up cultural practices abroad, or because said demographic does not see the shared story because of the time it was posted, or because of willful ignorance of current events. The fact that you're turning an issue that everyone needs to be concerned about and a great deal of people WOULD be concerned about given the opportunity to SEE the news story is being silly and looking for a reason to disparage a group you're already not fond of by making a relatively thin connection just because the victims in this circumstance happen to be women. For instance, I can point out plenty of people who ignore the impact of circumcision here in the US for any of the reasons listed above, but I'm not gonna go targeting one specific group for doing so. Everyone is responsible for awareness. Willful or accidental ignorance is not solely a feminist issue.
Well, there are several types of FGM, removal of the clitoris is one type, some types only remove the inner labia, some remove as much as physically possible. All are pretty fucking traumatic.
Mostly (9/10) its stuff like scratching the labia minora or majora with a knife for good luck, or scratching it and sewing or taping it so it kinda partially conjoins by a skin bridge. like even then FGM is bad and indefensible and i know how controversial it is to say this but its important to note that most FGMs preformed are less invasive then a circumcision, where actually a small but substantial part of the penis is removed...
Only on facepunch do people take a thread about the horrors of clitoral mutilation and turn it into "umm feminists are stupid cause they don't realise I have a ball sack".
