Manchester United manager David Moyes has been sacked, only 10 months after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson.
His dismissal was announced shortly after 0830 BST, following a meeting with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward at the club's training ground.
United said player-coach Ryan Giggs will take charge "until a permanent appointment can be made".
what a plank.
Well, he really had a terrible run tho.
He was in a 6 year contract right?
I wonder how much he got for that
It'll be interesting seeing what he does now too - no doubt he'll start small and work his way back up, or at least try to.
They didn't give him time to develop IMO.
Nanana na Nanana na Hey Hey Hey Goodbye

well.. the club he left got exponentially better and the club he joined became exponentially worse.
just remember that the stats show he did better than when sir alex ferguson started
Alex had practically raised the team, it's not weird that it'd go to shit at first when Moyes started. It was a matter of time before it'd get better, but it didn't seem like people were patient enough.
They'll get another manager in who'll do just as bad and they'll keep firing managers while the fans cry over their Ferguson love pillows.

Apparently they didn't have to do a payout on the remaining 5 years or so since there was a clause that they would win one of the championships.
Pff.
In american football people get sacked all the time and we deal with it.
As long as it isn't a safety.

Stats without context are a beautiful thing.
When Sir Alex took over the team it was in the 21st position in November, having finished 4th the previous season.
Moyes had pre-season with 30 millions spent in a signing (plus a 40 million in the winter) and the previous season champion team.
I'm not saying he would never improve, but his season with the team can't be compared with Sir Alex's.
Football is terrible for sacking.
For tens of millions of pounds they spend on players salaries, it's unfair to blame the manager for a bad performance on this scale. Manchester United also have some of the worst fans imaginable, and no doubt they entitled stance helped give him the boot.
You don't see it in other sports. Worcester Warriors are almost certainly getting relegated from the rugby union's English Premiership, but Dean Ryan is still staying as their DoR.
I said I would give him two years before judging him properly, buy it seems he won't get that. I guess I have to hope whoever comes next gets the time to do a good job.

Pointless American post about normal football #1
Lets see how many more come in and wow us with their total lack of knowledge

Sir Alex Ferguson took an average team and worked them into the most successful English team in the Premier League era.
Moyes took the English champions and turned them into an average mid table. He was always out of his depth

Congrats on totally missing the sarcasm!
I feel the need to laugh at Stoke here for letting us have their manager

Stoke? You mean Everton?

Clause in his contract that he can be sacked and only receive a years compensation if he fails to make the Champions League (top 4).
Nah I'm a Crystal Palace fan, just no football thread so I felt the need to put it here
Regarding Moyes, he deserved to be sacked. Seemed pretty clueless and out of his depth to me

Ah yeah, Tony Pulis. Deserves Manager of the Year, done an incredible job with Palace.
talk about angry british kneejerk reactions. Somebody is sensitive about their sport.
I was making a joke, a "sack" in american football is when the quarterback gets tackled before crossing the line of scrimmage. A safety is when someone is tackled on their own touchdown line. We don't use the word "sacked" when someone gets fired in america. I guess I was kind of assuming you guys knew those cultural differences.
Thank god that twat is gone.
Man U fans need to wake up and realize that Fergie isn't coming back
rip the #moyesboys
poor /sp/ will never >moyes again

What are you doing, no one cares.

you do understand it was a joke, right?
and speaking of "total lack of knowledge", it isn't called normal football, it's called association football, and the American/Canadian version is called gridiron football. the term 'soccer' derives from the 'soc' in 'association'. but congrats, you managed to wow me with your total lack of knowledge before any of my fellow Americans did!!!
as for Moyes, I can't say I'm too surprised. at least in sports across the pond, when a team as renowned as ManU drops as quickly as it did with relatively little roster change, the owners are going to make immediate changes. they can't afford to allow him time to develop; you develop before you get the gig at one of the best clubs in the world, and then you excel there.

I don't know about most others, but as a guy who has been exposed to nearly equal parts of British and American culture I had to switch from British mode to American mode to get the joke.
That generally takes a couple of minutes.

Regardless of it being a joke or not, its a pretty poor one. Most people who watch football aren't american, and even lesser people around the world watch american football.
