"I slipped and fell into the life boat, that's what happened. Why are you looking at me like that? Oh, the jewelry. The passengers dropped them and they fell into my pocket by accident. Not that? Oh, the body under the bed. Yeah, that... he must have died when the ship hit ground and slid under my bed. It's all a simple misunderstanding."
Wasn't there a recording released of a coast guard dude yelling at him to go back and get on the boat and he was mostly refusing?
More precisely, the Coast Guard Commander yelled "Get on the boat dammit" (and multiple other varieties) to which the captain kept coming up with reasons as to why he couldn't/wouldn't. If that was due to a nervous breakdown (it happens to the best of us) then fair enough, but then he should simply have said so afterwards. Instead he's now coming up with shit like this. Fuck off cowardly cunt, you shirked your duty and thanks to you people are dead. Man up and take the consequences.
How did the rest of the ships crew preform in getting people off? With the Captain nowhere in sight, I'd assume the first mate would take command and do Schettino's job.
2nd and 3rd Officers were right next to him in that boat. All the higher Officers bailed as soon as possible and left the lower personnel (cabin boys, entertainers, waiters etc) along with the passangers to their own devices. Everybody who lived owes their lives to those people and the Coast Guard (+ whoever else came to help). The Captain and all the other crew who simply abandoned them need to prosecuted, tried and punished as harsh as the law allows. Thanks to those fuckers people are dead.
i think i saw this movie
This man is a living scum.
Doesn't he know that saying... You know, the Captain always goes down with the ship?
Doesn't he know that saying... You know, the Captain always goes down with the ship?
This guy is an asshole. He gave the order to his crew to leave the boat first, he "ran" away as soon as possible, he didn't help the disabled to go to the lifeboat (and afaik even refused them access) and later claimed himself to be a hero, because the ship was already going to wreck itself anyway so he just took it closer to the coast for easier evacuation, even though proper investigation proved that he stopped the perfectly working ship's engines on purpose and let the whole thing derivate toward the coast uncontrolled.
did they explain why he went so close to those rocks? from what i heard he wanted to put on a show but cut the ship open on the rocks. (can someone confirm this?) he could still be on that damn ship and not have gotten wet because it's still mostly above water i'm sure if he did stay on there he would be welcomed back as a responsible (all be it, rather dim witted) captin but saying he TRIPPED? what kind of lame excuse is that.
he was also sitting in the bar when the ship ran aground according to eye witnesses not to mention he was among the first people to leave the ship

No orders were given to the crew, so they waited until the ship really started to lean a lot to evacuate everyone. According to the captain and his family he did this to "save the people" as the wreck was closer to the coast than it would have been if nothing was done, which is bullshit because the ship was working totally well before the guy suddenly changed direction. Oh and there's people who died in here, it's not just a mere harmless lying on the side that was slow and gentle enough to let everyone out before it was too late.
