Should get a window like this
[t]http://www.windows8core.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Upgrade-Windows-8-to-8.1-5.png[/t]
You must of not been able to preserve your data for whatever reason, but the assistant will tell you if it needs to do a clean install
Does "apps" mean "programs I have installed" or literally only the microsoft market apps?
Because I really do not feel like downloading Steam and all the games I have installed again.
Oh good I was hoping you'd be able to keep personal files and nothing else. I've got too much stuff to reliably backup, but this comp's install of Windows 7 is fucked :v:.
Does the "keep personal files" include installed programs or is it just stuff from your user folder?

When you perform an Upgrade install from within a previous version (Vista or Windows 7) and select to keep Personal Files, your personal files in the Profile that you are logged on with when you start the Upgrade Install will be migrated to the corresponding Profile folders in the first new profile that you create in Windows 8.
A Windows.old folder will also be created and will contain the following folders.
Perflogs
Program Files
Program Files (x86) - (on a 64bit system)
ProgramData
Users
Windows
Any folders that you have created in a location other than these folders will not be migrated.

They call all applications apps now
It's ridiculous
Can't wait to literally tear windows 10 to the bone and rice the hell out of it

I can hardly rice Windows 8.1 with blackbox without the program turning to shit.
Maybe my system is just too complex.
People have done it, and very few doing well
Fear that it's going to run to shit, with MDL applications now being supported in a window
Currently running 10 and it's great, especially in comparison to 8.
Even more stuff works out-of-the-box, their driver library must span several terabytes, better energy management, Start menu is useful, Wifi connection problems are fixed.
Good upgrade.
Can you reserve Windows 10 on more than one device?
I'm planning on getting a new PC soon that will have 8.1, but I want to upgrade to 10 while it's still free.

It's going to be free for a year. As an upgrade I mean.
Windows is convinced my key isn't legit so I guess I can't get windows 10.

Reminder that the superior GNU+Linux operating system does not require a key or calls to customer service to download and install. You simply download it and install it. Happy Hacking!

call MS, 98% chance they'll activate your copy, I've used keys that have been excessively used and they still granted me activation (must be some threshold they have or something)

How on earth is Linux superior.
I'm a bit concerned. Can programs I have installed like Steam (and games I have on Steam) and Google Chrome be able to run on Windows 10?
Win 7 works fine and I don't need any of that touchscreen crap, thanks
But Windows 7 has touch screen features or did you conveniently forget this?
I'm a bit concerned. Can programs I have installed like Steam (and games I have on Steam) and Google Chrome be able to run on Windows 10?
From what is told, everything or almost everything that runs on 7 and 8 will run on 10.
Is it going to be a subscription based model like people were saying?

Anything you run on 7 and 8 will run on 10, there may be compatibility issues with older games but this is always to be expected

Are you asking if they will stay installed or are you asking if Windows 10 can run them? If the latter then yes, if the former, no.
Is it going to be a subscription based model like people were saying?
No.

Nah.
Sweet! The day before my birthday!

Uhm, it doesn't format your drive or anything, it's just a big update in a sense.
With Windows 10, Microsoft is kinda doing what Apple has done for a long time now where the OS gets new versions more frequently and the updates are free or very cheap. That's why they skipped Windows 9, because we're gonna call it Windows 10 for a long time.

It's also the day AFTER my birthday, so it's a belated birthday present.
can we ban this linux mong for ratings spam?
