For professionals who use computers for not gaming though, it's essentially dead weight
MS caters to their biggest audiences. For desktops, their biggest audience consists of a lot of gamers who could find this useful. If you have no use for it, don't use it. It's not like it will take up 5gb for that piece of software. It's like saying MS Paint is useless for me since I have Photoshop. Just remove the shortcuts and you won't know it exists.
Old article, never-mind. :P

Their biggest audience for Windows desktop is most definitely not gamers.

And yet kinda recently someone from MS confirmed win 10 won't be free for pirated copies.
Which one is it then?

Businesses and regular home users WAY eclipse gamers. What else do you think most professionals use? It's not Linux, and it's not Mac.

That article is from March. It's been since disconfirmed.

For businesses they have business editions. Regular home users are gamers. Not hardcore ones, but gamers nonetheless.

The pro version has all this stuff too. And I'm certain my grandmother plays no sort of games.

Congrats! You clearly know nothing about windows 10 if you're gonna call it "Touchscreen crap"
My grandmother plays a lot of flash games and has a damn good time.
Plenty don't though. Being a home user certainly doesn't mean you play games.

Why don't you try informing him instead of acting like a passive asshole?
Especially Xbox games, which is specifically the feature we're talking about.

This is what you said. Which is blatantly false.

What's wrong there? You think gamers is a small part of the audience? I didn't say gamers are the biggest audience, I said their biggest audience (home users) includes a lot of gamers.

It's been at least two years since Windows 8 released, and nearly a whole year of Windows 10 testing. For someone to still be so ignorant of what the OS actually contains and how it works requires them to have totally ignored any and all education on the subject.
Me and many other Windows 8 users have spent fuck knows how long trying to educate people. And it's always the same few people who refuse to listen and regurgitate the same tripe. So can you really blame people for being fed up with that shit by this point?
Believe it or not, but Microsoft actually try to maintain backwards compatibility as much as is feasible.
If these bad practices are still there and visible in searchable open source code, think of all the closed source programs that could be doing the same thing.
Bear in mind Microsoft has a heavy business focus, and one thing businesses tend to do is continue to use extremely antiquated software because it "just works". Keeping legacy programs working is much more important to Microsoft than making sure the next version name is 1 digit higher than the last one.
Microsoft probably took the easy way out.
I mean, what's the compatibility mode for, then ?

Yeah, but it's always nice to let the user the option to uninstall unused applications. That's what the Programs and Functionality entry in Windows 7's control panel is for. The last time I've tried Windows 10 (build ~10k), some applications simply were impossible to uninstall from this menu.
I've been using the technical preview on my other partition for a while now, and they've got loads of stuff to fix in a very short time. I can only assume that even the "fast track" builds are still at least several weeks behind current developments. Nonetheless, I'm going to upgrade as soon as it's available because I just built this machine last year so I can expect good support; it won't be long before it's running smoothly.

I really think you overestimate the amount of people who will be streaming xbox games to their TV. There's no need for it to be a mandatory non uninstallable program.

While I don't disagree, I also don't see a problem for it to be that way.

Because it's just completely unnecessary. Maybe I'm a minimalist, but I don't like shit being on my computer that I don't use.

You pretty much need a Google account to use an Android phone, but I don't see people complaining about that

But you can completely decide not to use one. I wonder for 10 if the trick for 8.1 works. As long as you don't have a network connection you can just do a local account.
Win 7 works fine and I don't need any of that touchscreen crap, thanks
You don't have to use it??? I hate it when people act all fervent over the previous OS like it's god. Everyone bitched about W8...and it turned out to not be bad, and now people are going to bitch and moan about w10 like its the worst fucking thing ever.

Literally just installed the preview on one of my other drives and they actually made it easier than 8/8.1. There's a button to just skip the account login right on the setup page.
I might as well Revert back to Windows XP. 7 Is by far the best in my opinion.

No you haven't. Every Windows 8 thread for the past 2 years has been people who dislike W8 being stubborn assholes and people who like W8 being passive-aggressive assholes talking past each other.
