it's amazing how angry people keep trying to be about windows like it's still launch-day 8.0

What's there to be angry about 10 though?
What's there to be angry about 10 though?
I mean, this thread alone has had a few prime examples of people who are either intentionally avoiding it for dumb reasons-
Win 7 works fine and I don't need any of that touchscreen crap, thanks
or are misinformed/lacking direct confirmation over things that people have thrown absolute tantrums over in the past, showing there could be plenty of people out there still under that impression-
Is it going to be a subscription based model like people were saying?
the most actual hard info I've seen people constantly grind at in the past few months has been the fucking garbage can icon changing and looking too isometric or cartoony or otherwise off-perspective, if that's all the dirt people are digging up then I think we're in for a pretty smooth ride
After Spamming GWX.exe in system32 to get it open, I finally reserved a copy!
EDIT: Don't know about you guys but i'm happy to get rid of Windows 7 and try something new for once.
What's there to be angry about 10 though?
i always thought some people just have a "change is bad" mentality.
I plan on getting this since I have a legit copy of Windows 7, but first I need to know if there are any games or more importantly any 3D modelling/rendering packages that won't run on it (yet)
That and just a good month of letting it be out in the wild to hear what the community says about it
i always thought some of people just have a "change is bad" mentality.
I was quite upset about metro start in 8, still don't like it. But 10 fixes that. I don't see any problems with 10.

Things that run on 8 should work on 10. Since you're on 7, maybe you will have issues if you play really old games. For 3d packages, stuff like 3ds, maya, c4d, blender... will work just fine.
I'll probably wait 6 months or so when it's out so others can report in on how good/bad it is.
I mean, I know there's a developer preview and all but most of the bugs and complaints will occur when it becomes mainstream. Looking forward to moving across though. After hating on 8 at first, I love it and that's reason enough to give 10 more of a chance.
That said, can I reserve a copy now and install it 6-8 months down the line?
I was quite upset about metro start in 8, still don't like it. But 10 fixes that. I don't see any problems with 10.
Yeah, that's understandable. I meant it in 10's case, since from what I've seen from the reactions to the previews on here it's pretty good? So I don't see the hate for 10 either, maybe people are just still a little sour after 8?
Excuse me if this has been asked yet, but will it be possible to disable the Cortana shit on the taskbar?
Excuse me if this has been asked yet, but will it be possible to disable the Cortana shit on the taskbar?
Yeah, same way as you'd unpin any search bar or shit from the taskbar. Just right click, no search/cortana
i always thought some people just have a "change is bad" mentality.
You mean like this?

I haven't gotten any notifications to reserve my download. Hmph.
i always thought some people just have a "change is bad" mentality.
At the same time change doesn't automatically make something good, and far too many times "You're just afraid of change" was used as a hollow justification for why W8/Metro is 'better'.
The number of misinformed posts here is astonishing.
I have been using windows 10 on old laptops with no touch screen or anything. The interface was great to use with a mouse and keyboard or even a touchpad. There are a ton of small little additions that I cant possibly all detail, but they revamped the wifi selection menu and added FLAC support. Cortana is looking promising (although I hope more features get added) and it recognizes what I say pretty darn accurately. Windows 10 is really a big step forward.
Windows 10 is to windows 8 what windows 7 was to vista.
Personal opinion video breakdown :
--
they're praising Cortana to heaven while it's just nothing too special " It can EVEN sent emails if you ask" ... Yeah wow, big deal.
Like anyone on a PC is even going to use voice commands that much, I mean it's fun for smartphones but it comes no where near the usability of Google Now, or even Siri.
I think it's just useless.
--
The 'Hello' feature sounds pretty fun, but dangerous too.
--
New web browser, who cares instantiating another browser is the first thing I'll do
Oh wow writing of web pages, how great and what an innovative feature ...
''Removes distractions'' this is just idiotic as fuck, removing ''distracting'' things from webpages? Really?
--
They seriously still haven't figured that the apps are total shit apparently
--
New office update, yeah sure..
--
Support for games we already play - yeah imagine dropping the old stuff,
who cares for Xbox live, yet another social network that is dead
Connected to the Xbox is pretty cool really ..

Feature i really like: copy paste in CMD
Yeah, same way as you'd unpin any search bar or shit from the taskbar. Just right click, no search/cortana
thats awesome
I know that older need for speed games will not work well (pro street and under)
They do crash a lot but setting then to single core does help abit
I'll install it if its possible to rip that cortana thing right out of the OS
I'll install it if its possible to rip that cortana thing right out of the OS
cortana should be the least of your worries tbh
it looks like they have a proprietary online store or something embedded directly into the standard OS programs
I can't be the only dude using Windows 7 that actually can't wait to get Windows 10. It looks incredibly promising. Besides Win7 is showing its age so it's about fucking time to move on. None of this WinXP bullshit.
I'll install it if its possible to rip that cortana thing right out of the OS
Seriously
Here's a tutorial:
You need a program to install language packs?
That's your problem
Didn't look at the language settings
That only works if you get the Ultimate edition, trying to run the Japanese installer or any of the other arbitrarily picked languages on this list results in it closing without installing.
As I said it worked well in the Windows 10 preview through windows update but that was because the preview is automatically Pro edition.
That only works if you get the Ultimate edition
Setting default and logging out changes the display language as well
So I started the download today and by the time it would be released the download might finish. Well yeah my internet is that slow. :suicide:
Uhm, it doesn't format your drive or anything, it's just a big update in a sense.
With Windows 10, Microsoft is kinda doing what Apple has done for a long time now where the OS gets new versions more frequently and the updates are free or very cheap. That's why they skipped Windows 9, because we're gonna call it Windows 10 for a long time.
Thatsnot why they skipped 9. Theres already several windows platform with 9 in it.
Is there a way to reserve a copy of it even if I don't have the icon on my task bar?
Is there a way to reserve a copy of it even if I don't have the icon on my task bar?
Honestly, there's no point in reserving anyway.
They can be cancelled too
fair enough. I'll just download on day
Don't know if this has been brought up anywhere, but "Once you upgrade, you have Windows 10 for free on that device."
The keywords in question here being what does it define as a device.
Your current set of hardware? And if so, what if something breaks? Like you have to replace your motherboard or something, do you lose your copy?
If this is the case, it might not be an issue right now "You can just reserve another copy". But what after the initial year, when Windows 10 starts costing cash? Will I actually have to upgrade to fork out cash for a copy of 10 at that point instead of just reinstalling the one I obtained earlier?
For the record, I will give the OS a shot. I just hope that the above question is just paranoia on my part.
