That is exactly correct, they didn't receive 170 million dollars worth of stolen footage. People didn't buy what they watched.
You just contradicted yourself. You said prior to that that they're losing their money, now you're agreeing that they haven't lost anything. Make up your mind.
Some statistics are binary. 50% means that the person either will or won't buy the media.
That is flawed because the only reason a "50%" mindset even exists is because of the easy availability to pirate.
Oh boy, another piracy argument. I find it interesting that they mention US fans torrenting Top Gear before it becomes available legally. That sort of thing adds an extra dimension to the argument beyond just 'u r a pirat.'
You just contradicted yourself. You said prior to that that they're losing their money, now you're agreeing that they haven't lost anything. Make up your mind.
I never said they lost any money, I said they lost possible income. Had I said they lost money, I would have implied that they only made about 20 million from the movie, which I didn't, becuase I'm not stupid. You just assumed because you skimmed over what I said without actually bothering to read it. Re-reading is your friend.
Also should be noted that a lot of the tv shows are probably pirated while they're still on air. I personally don't have a tv in my room, but watch Weeds, so I torrent the new episode the day after it airs.
I do something similar, mostly because where I live, I can't get the video in High-quality.
Well, maybe 16 year olds just want to see what the dick looks like when its blue.
Pirated copy doesn't mean a lost sale, but I am sure the movie industry will use this data to further their prosecutions of people.
Last I checked, 13 million out of 6.5 Billion is a very small number. If my math is right, 1 in 500.
It's not like films cost money to make or anything, and of course every single person in the fucking world (that's right, including africa and eastern countries) sees the exact same film or TV show
I do something similar, mostly because where I live, I can't get the video in High-quality.
Yeah, the tv we DO have is smaller then my monitor and has fucked up color. Also, a lot of times with movies, they're pirated before the dvd release but after the theatre release so there's a gap where you can only pirate it. Not saying that works for ALL pirated movies, but for a lot of the new ones like Watchmen it does. I got a leaked copy of the bluray version about 2 weeks before release, and then bought it when it came out.
twilight 11 milion soooooooooo 11 milion babes on internet :c00l: [editline]07:51PM[/editline] vampirebabes
11 million whales more like
Oh fuck I just remembered I pirated Twilight.
Oh fuck I just remembered I pirated Twilight.
waste of hdd space
You sound like piracy is something to applaud. From that statistic, if you charged everyone only 2 dollars to watch watchmen, they'd still be losing 33,812,904 Dollars If you charge 10 dollars (which is more realistic), they would have lost 169,064,520. Considering the movie made a revenue of 185,248,060, that means they lost about half of the possible income to pirating.
No, I'm applauding the BBC's avoidance of bias. [editline]07:03PM[/editline]
waste of hdd space you better had not chosen an HD rip boy
I'm afraid so.
1 download =/= one lost sale. People download tons of crap because its free/inexpensive, but if they couldn't it doesn't mean they'd buy it all.
The US pirating 47% of the total world piracy, jesus.
It's not like films cost money to make or anything, and of course every single person in the fucking world (that's right, including africa and eastern countries) sees the exact same film or TV show
Sarcasm? Even though it does cost money to produce media, the amount of people who pay for the media easily outweigh the number of people who don't. About 499 to 1, as I said before. Assuming every person pays $5 to watch it in a theater, they'll make $65,000,000 alone. Assuming 50% of those people purchase a DVD for $20, they'll make another $130,000,000 Assuming they instead buy a $40 Blu-ray, they'll make $250M. Movies don't usually cost that much to make.
waste of hdd space
If you watch it without all the fangirls and without thinking how stupid it is that the vampires sparkle, it was actually a pretty decent movie.
If you watch it without all the fangirls and without thinking how stupid it is that the vampires sparkle, it was actually a pretty decent movie.
That's like saying if you ignore the fact that shit smells bad, causes disease, looks disgusting and comes out of your ass it actually tastes pretty good
If you watch it without all the fangirls and without thinking how stupid it is that the vampires sparkle, it was actually a pretty decent movie.
Thanks a lot you doomed this thread.
That's like saying if you ignore the fact that shit smells bad, causes disease, looks disgusting and comes out of your ass it actually tastes pretty good
Have you seen twilight? Didn't think so.
Have you seen twilight? Didn't think so.
I saw it and I thought it was a giant pile of crap. However, I saw it on a trip with my class in a bus so I was basically surrounded by people making random noises. The seats were uncomfortable too. God damn I hated those seats.
There isn't anything you can do to stop piracy, with the exception of incredibly tight regulation of the internet. And doing that would not only infringe on freedom vs order, it would also put the US in a backwards spiral, since a better trend would be to develop new ways of working WITH piracy, instead of trying to fight it. What I am saying is that there isn't anything movie companies can do. When they ruin one person's life for pirating a movie or music, all of us get mad then say "Well it wasn't me" Then we all pirate stuff anyways. I am saying people in general, not me.
I saw it and I thought it was a giant pile of crap. However, I saw it on a trip with my class in a bus so I was basically surrounded by people making random noises. Nowhere does it say "possible income" or "money they could have made". Don't try to change your point, why you even give a shit about piracy when it isn't affecting you is enough for me to consider you unintelligent.
I hate pirates
I hate pirates
Why?
I bet the BBC will make us pay a TV license to have Internet access next in case we might watch a BBC programme online.
ITT: Series fanboys argue about which show is better. House is clearly the best.
These threads would be a lot better if everyone could admit there's a middle ground. A lot of the pro-piracy group seems to like to assume that them pirating a movie has no effect on the movie studio, which is obviously ridiculous. Meanwhile a lot of the anti-piracy people seem to like to assume that each downloaded movie costs the company $x in lost potential sales, which is equally ridiculous. There's a middle ground you fucks :argh:
