They have made laws in regard to all of those things and plenty more dictating how to run your life "properly". They know better, they are the experts.
All of those things are intended to protect others, not the offender.
-snip- derp.
All of those things are intended to protect others, not the offender.
Wrong.
So let me get this straight. This is your political point of view:
Sure, why not, because i totally didn't cover that in the text i quoted above.
It's the laws that are vague not i, it really depends upon what County, City or State you reside in. Many people consider smoking a cigarette stupid, owning a weapon stupid and vicious or almost barbarian, not wearing a seatbelt or helmet downright retarded but unlike them, i don't believe laws enforcing you to "act right" are a mark of a free society. These are also almost always laws that the burden of responsibility falls upon the user, don't bring up murder laws and robbery laws because I'm not speaking about actions that violate the rights of others.
i agree we should be able to smoke cigarettes and own weapons but the wearing a seatbelt is law because if you're not wearing one and you get into a car crash your body becomes a danger to others
i agree we should be able to smoke cigarettes and own weapons but the wearing a seatbelt is law because if you're not wearing one and you get into a car crash your body becomes a danger to others
Even if that is the case there is still helmet laws to consider, and look, i didn't name even one quarter of one percent of the 'Laws for your safety' that exist. @Others: No wonder Democrats are losing in the polls, broad generalizations and name calling are your friend.
Wrong.
Go on...
Even if that is the case there is still helmet laws to consider, and look, i didn't name even one quarter of one percent of the 'Laws for your safety' that exist. @Others: No wonder Democrats are losing in the polls, broad generalizations and name calling are your friend.
i guess sure the helmet laws can be seen as kinda stupid. maybe they should only apply for minors? and yeah i agree that laws based on stopping you from doing things that only affect yourself are kinda stupid
Go on...
There are cigarette laws in Chicago where i live that have absolutely nothing to do with the safety of others, like forbidding establishments to permit smoking under any circumstances, even if the purpose of that establishment is to smoke. (I'm talking about all businesses here) It gets muddy because i obviously can't speak for every county, city and state across the nation. Plenty have similar laws however. There is also laws like gun laws which though the purpose of the laws is to protect others, it fails in every regard and only serves to punish the responsible. Helmet laws are another, sure it's a good idea to wear a helmet and i don't dispute that but forcing somebody to wear one through coercion of government is, in my opinion, wrong. There is some other examples like drug laws, but i won't get into that because you were talking about the instances in my quote and not all instances.

Not being a smoker, I don't follow smoking laws very closely because I am irresponsible.
There is also laws like gun laws which though the purpose of the laws is to protect others, it fails in every regard and only serves to punish the responsible.
That's a pretty contentious issue. I don't have any answers for you there but like I said, the intent isn't to protect people from themselves, as it were.
Helmet laws are another, sure it's a good idea to wear a helmet and i don't dispute that but forcing somebody to wear one through coercion of government is, in my opinion, wrong.
People who don't wear helmets and crack their heads open tie up emergency services who could be dealing with other problems, there's a good chance they'll end up eating taxpayer dollars in the emergency room, etc. Like I said, it's more about protecting other people than protecting the cyclist. Which isn't to say it's right, but I don't think portraying it solely as a personal responsibility issue is accurate.
Don't say this kind of shit, it's stupid
Don't say the parties swapped. it's stupid. The platform is the same other than the ultra christian conservatives who jumped on the republican party and are now proceeding to speak louder than everybody else.

Once the government becomes invested in your health directly they could basically tell you what to do in many ways.... You might get too fat if you eat too much, obesity is one of the leading causes of death in this country the last time i checked. Smoking too. Prolonged internet usage effects your eyes and probably isn't too healthy generally either, guess that has to go.. See where I'm going with this? I'm not saying that bills should go unpaid at [del]doctors offices[/del] emergancy rooms but i guess what I'm saying is there should be a balance somewhere between personal responsibility and the responsibility of the government to take care of you. [editline]e[/editline] I know the slippery slope argument isn't generally accepted but in this case it seems warranted, you have every right to disagree.
Don't say the parties swapped. it's stupid. I didn't know we had strikethru tags, thx for that
But an example of a good (or at least okay) one
No, he's Republican in name only. Were he remotely Republican he would have done something about the AWB and restrictions on ammunition.
No, he's Republican in name only. Were he remotely Republican he would have done something about the AWB and restrictions on ammunition.
The very same things he became famous by using...
say what you willl about him i have to admit that most poeple in office would not do this [editline]05:02AM[/editline]
I hate when people say this... Lincoln if alive today would still be republican. The parties didn't swap places, the makeup of the parties did, at least to some extent and that was during the 1960s as I stated earlier. Most southern democrats went republican. [editline]11:59PM[/editline] It's still the truth regardless.
just putting this out there, the kkk is republican but my main point is who cares what party lincon would be, he isnt an all knowing super man [editline]05:04AM[/editline]
Democrats didn't idiot. It was passed almost unanimously. http://www.wsws.org/articles/2010/feb2010/patr-f27.shtml Oh and look they extended it as well.
stop being a raging repub, its not like you guys are any better (im not a dem or repub but i dont like how you are acting like your party is so much better)
ITT Democrats & Republicans bitching at it again. Both parties suck really... they both get shit done and always bitch and moan. Its just a giant shit fit between both parties are equally corrupt.
Democrats and republicans are stupid, socialism is the way to go Vote Obama2012
Rin is funny to watch post, it's like going for those fortune cookies you KNOW are full of sayings that just aren't even useful. Everytime he posts, it's like cracking open a fortune cookie and getting a ridiculous statement.
The day is look good for you today, you make many friend. There is few republican supporters on Facepunch at least I'm stirring the kettle.
Kettle stir sense make not long time?
socialism is the way to go
Yeah.. no.
Yeah.. no.
Uh, capitalism isn't the way to go either.
Uh, capitalism isn't the way to go either.
Corporatism*
Yeah.. no.
Democratic socialist governments have the highest happiness, economic power, and better healthcare and several other things that america just does not have at all.
that leaves facism then
Corporatism*
Uh, what? [editline]11:32PM[/editline]
The day is look good for you today, you make many friend. There is few republican supporters on Facepunch at least I'm stirring the kettle.
It's not about "stirring the kettle" though, it's basically how rascist or how out of touch with reality you can sound. You deny the "swap" in political stances that is well documented in he 1800's, you deny where lincolns views lie, and some other very out of touch shit. It's the republican nature to be out of touch and two generations behind, I don't see why that's a good thing.
Uh, capitalism isn't the way to go either.
Balls to the walls free market is. I don't even give two fucks.. Awaiting flame from Europeans..
Uh, what?
Most people misconstrue the current United States economic system to be free market capitalism when really, nothing could be further from the truth. Google it.
republican nature to be out of touch and two generations behind
Your stances don't even have any background behind them so don't try to claim I'm making ridiculous statements. Usual of a leftist to attack arrogantly and ignorantly, what proof do you have of the above statement. Explain yourself . . .
Balls to the walls free market is. I don't even give two fucks.. Awaiting flame from Europeans..
shit goddamn i dont give a fuck fuckin hitler for life nazis ans shit dont gvie a FCUK
