not "oh yeah kill that brown islamic piece of shit"
That comes after the PTSD.
If this gets rid of booting out members just because they're gay despite what they have done for their country then I'm all for it. There is no reason to kick a man out just for his sexuality, If he makes sexual advances on another man then yes kick him out but until that happens make the rules same for everybody.
You don't see the US forces as a non-American does.
The US Forces are not exactly the most appreciated organization...
I'm not American

Fraternising in general is frowned upon, I thought.

holy shit
Huh. As for the 18-year-old infantryman, the second they use the "I have x deployments under my belt for my country" line you know they're worth less than the scum that bottom-feeders suck.

I'm not justifying the infantryman's attitude toward gays, but I imagine he'd probably feel the same about you if he knew you existed.
As for DADT I'd be happy to hear it had been repealed. Unfortunately it really does sound like it will take time for it to be generally accepted in the ranks, if it ever happens.

He's not 18, he's been in the military for 18 years.

Same deal.
if he/she has a sane mind and can shoot a gun, they have the all the right to join the military
I have mixed feelings about this. For one, you might find a partner in the military and then your combat effectiveness would go down a lot because you focus on them way too much. But then again, it's giving people more rights which I support. Honestly I don't care about the whole gay issue, I'm just concerned about distractions.

Brotherhood is encouraged and supported because it gives that one soldier more incentive to fight harder to protect him or her.
There's been severals stories where a soldier took dozens of bullet just to donkey carry his battle buddy to safety.
Now, imagine if that those two soldiers were boyfriends, it'd be a fucking rambo nightmare for the taliban.
Whats the point in this policy now anyway? Aren't women allowed to serve in the military now? So wouldn't straight men have to not ask not tell so they don't make the women feel uncomfortable?

Thats not true at all. Look up the Sacred Band of Thebes. One of the most feared fighting forces in Ancient Greece and it was made entirely of 150 gay couples.

Well yes, I agree to an extent. But one might put themselves and others in harms way, or jeopardize the mission, because something happened to their boyfriend because of the huge emotional attachment.
But yes, I think this is a good thing overall.

Hmmm that was an interesting read. Thanks for pointing that out.
This is why I like hearing peoples opinions because it changes mine sometimes :buddy:
I don't even understand this, if they can't be comfortable or perform efficiently because of gays, how do we expect them to bear having hundreds of bullets whizzing by their ear, mortars setting off beside them, and artilleries blowing everything around them?

You might as well remove 'No one gets left behind' in our army's motto, if that brother gets left behind and dies, the entire squad loses morale.

This is true as well. I didn't think about all of these factors.
How is having a gay in the army any different to having a woman in the army?
Their both going to sew new curtains for the bunker you're in.

Much of the United States is at least partially bigoted against gays.
I'm more worried about people openly gay in the Army being 'accidentally' killed by friendly fire incidents.
I wouldn't put it past the GIs, knowing the general mentality among them.

Are you serious? Are you for real? If you're American, open your eyes and look around you. There's your citation.

Don't generalize marines/army/whatever as homophobic fucks. Just don't.

you do realize that homosexuality is being slowly accepted right?
and any soldier that is uncomfortable around gays and loses morale/sanity around them should be kicked off.
If they can't handle gays, they can't handle mortars or getting shot.
[citation needed]
It's not necessarily a hatred thing, but many people are put off by homophobic behaviors and are unreasonably scared.

I'm not saying all of them are. I'm saying that the majority most likely are. Which is not good for anyone who is openly gay. And a majority of the ones that ARE homophobic would probably shoot a gay person if they thought they could get away with it.

I think the majority are indifferent.
