Even if he never would kill his mom, you know a 10 year old is going to do dumb shit when he has a rifle at arms length.
Uhhh, I don't think you get it. At his age, he is deemed legally incapiable of committing a crime, and therefore cannot be found guilty.
I don't care, that isn't relevant to the point I'm making.
OH GOD IT'S NOT? Of course it's a crime...
No, they're criminal charges made to punish a crime.
Crime: an act punishable by law; usually considered an evil act
Criminal charges: a formal accusation that a person has committed a crime
I guess you are correct, but you still proved my point through it. I was mistaken that shooting your mother isn't a crime, however, shooting your mother isn't a criminal charge. There is no set penalty for shooting your mother, because the intent and malice involved changes whether it is murder or manslaughter.

Actually matricide is in some areas, and carries a set minimum :p
But I know what you mean now.
Christ, that's depressing.
Personally I'll never understand why someone would want to own a gun, but eh, that's just me.
I think we should put the kid on death row.
[editline]6th January 2011[/editline]
The death penalty should be reserved solely for people who suggest executing 10 year olds
Shit I better snip my post!
I'm surprised by the fact that the son loaded the rifle himself.
And pleading not guilty? Go die in a car fire you son of a dead bitch
Pick up bullet. Open chamber. Place bullet in chamber. Close chamber. Fire. Had it been a blunderbuss or musket, that would have been impressive.

That does mean that he had at least some idea of what he was doing.
That does mean that he had at least some idea of what he was doing.
Doesn't mean he had the ability to foresee the consequences of shooting his mum though.
Doesn't mean he had the ability to foresee the consequences of shooting his mum though.
I know, I just wonder how much experience he had with guns prior to the shooting. If he was taught how to load the gun without being given proper safety instruction, which I think is worse parenting than just buying a gun for a child and without any instruction period.
You may be smarter than that kid, you may have been taught gun safety better, there are too many variables to say whether he knew what he was doing or not(unless you're a judge or juror, and then it's pretty much your job). Your personal experience does not prove or disprove anything when it comes to another person with a completely different brain and set of experiences.
It's a fucking gun.. He shot his mother in the back of her head, did he think she would respawn or something?? If so, video games are to blame.
A 10 year old does not have the brain function to effectively know the consequences of their actions, which means they can't think things through. He was mad and had a weapon, he didn't(and couldn't) actively think "oh, if I shoot her she might die and I will never see her again"

I think you severely underestimate 10 year olds.
Maybe if the kid were six he wouldn't have been able to process anything.
she was probably taken by surprise which definitely would have increased her chances of dying because she was relaxed and getting shot was an immense shock.
I think getting shot in the head is what increased her chances of dying here...

The law disagrees.
well he aint redeeming himself at all
well he aint redeeming himself at all
says who
Who gives their 10-year-old son a rifle?
I mean, seriously.
Geeeze, how many agree's do you have. If only :(
Headshot, 100XP
...I think this is pretty depressing. I mean getting maybe an airsoft for a 10 year old would be ok, but even then I wouldn't let him go around the house with it LOADED. Just shows you how bad kids are with chores (and guns)

Don't dump this shit on video games. Because I'd rather a ten year old was playing an 18+ than brandish a gun in a house, let alone shoot his mother
The fact that he pleaded not guilty really makes me angry, and sad. :saddowns:

You don't even know if he played video games.

You really shouldn't be this ignorant.
wow thats jacked up
Why the fuck did they give a 10 year old a .22 for Christmas.
[editline]6th January 2011[/editline]
He could easily handle the recoil of a 5.56
Uh gun safety has nothing to do with this. It's not like he 'accidentally' shot her in the back of the head.
Gun safety has everything to do with this.
It's basic gun safety to NOT LET YOUR CHILD HAVE EASY ACCESS TO A GUN.
I got my first .22 when I was 5
:patriot:
The fact that he pleaded not guilty really makes me angry, and sad. :saddowns:
not guilty doesn't mean he's saying he didn't shoot his mom
INB4 VIOLENT VIDYA GAMES argument.
A rifle is a perfectly fine gift for a 10 year old, fuck. It's the fault of his parent's for not locking it and the ammo up.
Everyone jumps to THIS IS THE GUN'S FAULT!
Well who the fuck gives his/her 10 year old gun? Might aswell let him play out on the streets in the middle of the night.

When you're 10 and angry it's a whole different story.

More like ten, angry, unsupervised and poorly versed in proper gun safety. I went shooting with my family when I was around ten and I did just fine because of the extensive safety lessons my father gave me. A gun is a tool, and should be treated as one; if you don't know how to use one properly, you are a danger to yourself and those around you. Don't blame the gun, blame the parenting.
