Holy fucking shit that picture.

Wikipedia says it's because of the way they make it. Desomorphine itself doesn't cause that shit.
The drug is easily made from codeine, iodine and red phosphorus in a similar process to the manufacture of methamphetamine from pseudoephedrine, but desomorphine made this way is highly impure and contaminated with various toxic and corrosive byproducts. Since this mix is routinely injected immediately with little or no further purification, "Krokodil" has become notorious for producing severe tissue damage and gangrene, sometimes requiring limb amputation, in long-term users.
It implies that the majority of it is though, especially the cheap kind.

But you must think that they are really fucking addicted otherwise the thought process of injecting an impure solution of what is basically chemical plant runoff fluid just to get high wouldn't happen.
Zombies :byodood:
It's sad that the russian government has the power to cut the making of this stuff dramatically by simply making codeine prescription only, but they aren't doing anything about it.
:wtc:
that just about sums up my reaction to this

That's what happens when profits matter more than human lives.
I'm perfectly empathetic, I just think that if you start doing drugs, you should realise the consequences beforehand.
No no no no no.
People don't start doing Desomorphine straight off the bat. The people who are doing this are doing it because they already addicted to Heroin and find Desomorphine cheaper.
Addiction, particularly to an opiate-based substance is a powerful thing.
Anyone who does illegal drugs in general deserves to rot to death.
So by your logic I should rot to death for smoking marijuana a few times in highschool? You're an idiot.
Anyone who does illegal drugs in general deserves to rot to death.
haha
no
I can understand a country wanted to curb heroin use, but if this is the alternative... fuck, decriminalise heroin, because this is on an entire different level of FUCKED UP.

It's not about russians turning to a legal alternative, it's turning to a cheaper alternative. Decriminalization of heroin would just increase the amount of users, while prices would most likely stay the same and eventually the amount of people using this shit would also increase.
Imagine using this as some kind of biological bomb...
Shit.

If being caught with heroin wasn't as much of a big deal more people would be able to start selling. And economics shows that, in general, when a large number of people are supplying the same product prices will tend to fall as people will choose the cheapest alternative most of the time forcing the competitors to meet their low prices, or sell for cheaper.
Obviously there's a limit to how far prices can fall before it stops being profitable, and I'm sure heroin could NEVER compete with this Krokodil stuff ($2? It'll NEVER get that low EVER). But I'm sure it could become more affordable.
I might be late, but this reminds me of Bioshock
The person in the picture seems pretty calm for someone with half an arm...
Now I dislike drugs even more.
I've once heard about bites from certain Australian spiders that can make your skin rot but DAMN!
They just rot a small area, though it is way more painful due to nerves not dying as fast, this.. This isn't a drug, it's almost enough to be classed as a chemical weapon, put that shit in a bullet and it's lights out for whoever it hits, pretty much quicksilver bullets 2.0

Yeah, it's not the desomorphine itself, it's what they mix into it to give it a high compared to heroin.
They should get a dead corpse and inject it with a helluvalot of this drug and have a camera watching it for a week then speed the video up.
For science. :science:
[editline]23rd June 2011[/editline]
This drug would also prove to be a powerful weapon if given to a dangerous group of people.
[editline]23rd June 2011[/editline]
All they gotta do is put it in the water supply or convert it to an airborne substance and unleash it in a popular area.
Fuck this is scary.
The thing that scares me most about it is that it's MAN MADE. It's not a natural thing.
They should show pictures of this drug instead of ice addicts in drug awareness seminars and classes.

Yeah, it's not the desomorphine itself, it's what they mix into it to give it a high compared to heroin.
Actually the desomorphine itself is safe.
It was used in Switzerland under the brand name Permonid, and was described as having a fast onset and a short duration of action, with relatively little nausea or respiratory depression compared to equivalent doses of morphine.
It's the leftover chemicals that they do not filter off that kills them, the iodine, the industrial cleaning oil, all that horridly caustic mixture.
An Aspie is a term used for someone with Autism.
Uh... no, an aspie is a derogatory term for someone with Asperger syndrome dude. Thought that was pretty fucking obvious.
Best way to get back at someone.
Put fucktons of the drug into their food/drink.

Ever heard of roofies? Not a novel idea.

That's what I bloody said?
That's what I bloody said?
I responded before you edited.
...I think.
For people who wonder how druggies can stand their flesh rotting and not feeling pain:
The drug acts as a painkiller. If you don't use the drug, you do feel your flesh rotting and it causes terrible pain. So to stop the pain, they take the drug. When under drug's effect, you don't feel the pain but your flesh is killed even faster. That's how they get to such states without fainting from pain. While you're high on that shit, you don't feel the pain. Hence why stopping using it is really hard, it hurts like a bitch. Combine that pain with addictive effect of the drug, and there you go.
I feel like I should be disgusted but I'm not for some reason :geno:
