My dad was a collector and had over 90 guns. He wasn't tinfoil hat paranoid and weird he just liked collecting and shooting and working on guns.
Hobby is normal, guy is just nuts.
Why an elementary school?
Because nothing is sacred anymore. Seriously I can't take this anymore. Horrible shit has been happening the past couple weeks. Its truly tragic.
So? They're still operable weapons. The guy in the OP was a "collector" and look what almost happened. I realise he'd be a minority but the point is that it can happen. Whether or not they're old or new, they're still weapons that were designed to kill.
I merely suggested that if people wanted guns so easily for the sole purpose of collecting, then why not just make them have to be inoperable. I don't care if some people can get access to certain operable weapons, as long as the process is more strict and genuine reasons are given. IMO, reasons like "self-defence" and whatever shouldn't be accepted.
what's a genuine reason besides "self-defense"? that's the reason why my family owns guns. just because guns can kill that doesn't mean that all gun owners are killers. i don't understand what's wrong with "have it and not need it" rather than "need it and not have it". it's like you forget that guns don't kill people, people kill people with guns.
Both are collection hobbies
Well, so are postage stamps. One similarity doesn't make a good comparison.
Collecting firearms is fine though, as far as you have to make them unusable, like in some European countries.

Making them unusable would destroy the value of the rifle and potentionally point to one that doesn't take his hobby seriously. For example, in Sweden, which has very strict gun laws, you can get a permit to own any kind of weapon if it's part of a collection; Though, if you were to tell the person issuing the permit that you would plug the weapons, you would not recieve a permit on the grounds of not being a serious collector.
