All female Brokeback Mountain
maybe it could work.
No it won't, the premise was brought up several years ago with the old Ocean's 11-13 directors, who immediately laughed and said it wouldn't work at all.
I hate remakes as it is but this is literally riding the shit stains of ghost busters 16.
Its being done for no other reason than following the gender swapping trend.
I won't even think about seeing this. And i imagine anybody who understood the ghost busters debacle wont be seeing this.
I'm fine with an all female cast, by all means literally knock yourselves out. But its this remaking that irks me. Killing one classic at a fucking time.
It's not really a "remake" though. Soderbergh is on board, and Bullock called it "an extension and a continuation." We won't know for sure until more details are released, but it doesn't seem like it's just a "let's remake a classic crime film with women this time," it seems like it could easily be in-universe with the rest of the Ocean's series.
Gender-swapping has been a "trend" since Shakespearean times. When it's done well, it can actually be great. It just doesn't work when you piss all over the original IP and insult your core fanbase - since Soderbergh is involved with the project, I very much doubt they'll do that. But we'll see. Bullock seems to have a lot of respect for the IP and she has the original director of the Ocean's trilogy on board - that's radically different from the Ghostbusters situation.
lol you are actually proving the ghostbusters defenders right if you dismiss the movie this early.
Why is that? Because when the biggest selling point of something is a gimmick I can already see that it's trash?
I'm waiting for an all-female cast reboot of something where suddenly half the girls turn into men because nature always finds a way~
White Dudes???
The great irony of rebooting an IP with an all female cast is that it gives the impression that an all female cast wouldn't stand/sell on its own.
I mean of course that's why these are being made to begin with. Hollywood wouldn't do something they see as so risky. But it's incredible to see some people singing the praises of feminism in Ghostbusters when it is anything but.
This is what fucks with me. The implication is that women can't succeed without riding on men's coattails and liberals/feminists without any sense of irony are the most fervent defenders of these lazy cash-ins.
im looking foward to this movie
Taking a movie with an all or mostly male cast and making a sequel with an all female cast just screens pandering, even if it isn't.
Sandra, Cate, Anne and Helena are all great actresses though.
Plus, Sandra is already established within the modern Oceans 11 story. If they made a spin off where she tries to out-heist Brad and George I'd be all for it.

Warner Bros has firmed an October start date in New York for Ocean’s Eight, the female-driven caper spinoff directed by Gary Ross, and the studio is closing with its principal cast.
This and the fact Bullock was one of the first confirmed to be in the movie makes me pretty sure that's exactly what they're going for.
[editline]a[/editline]
Wait it was Julia Roberts not Sandra Bullock. I always get those two confused.
[editline]a[/editline]
Wait Roberts isn't in this at all. Never mind.
oceans eleven was a remake anyway.
i think this could potentially be ok.
It's a good cast, except for Rhianna, like what

Making a pure genderbent reboot seems really misguided. I'm still pleasantly optimistic for it.
My only problem.woth this is just Rihanna.
She sucks.
That title choice is awful, but hey I have hope for this one.
but this "genderswap" shit is so fucking uninspired.
Literally fan-fiction tier
It's a good cast, except for Rhianna, like what
what's wrong with rihanna?
she's a good pop artist, justin timberlake was in inside llewyn davis and that was a gr8 movie.

She's not a professional actress, who knows if she can act
lol you are actually proving the ghostbusters defenders right if you dismiss the movie this early.
What if they're proving the ghostbuster defenders wrong because ghostbusters was so bad and so well publicized and so eagerly defended it shook the faith people might have had in all female reboot.
Ocean's 8 lol. This is the most obvious plan for a prequel trilogy I think I've ever seen.
Oh you mean, that one girl who has never played a big role in a good movie? Or any movie for that matter? Holy shit, I can't WAIT for this movie.
I mean Rihanna man
it's fucking rihanna
i mean the move will suck anyway but at least there will be something to look at
She's not a professional actress, who knows if she can act
well she got the role so maybe she tested ok
Just saw this on tv. Some chick talked about it and mentioned ghostbusters' gross followed by "girl power"
Yeah... $320 million loss... GIRL POWER!

Can't wait for the film's soundtrack to be a shitty ad for an album like HOME was
I hope this has less controversy surrounding it than Ghostbusters. I hated Ghostbusters because Melissa McCarthy was in it. But one of my favorite performances ever was a live theater production of 12 Angry Men with women (it was called 12 Angry Women). Genderbending isn't always awful, if the production itself can actually make a point about the difference in gender, rather than just doing it "becuz lol!!"
This is oceans 11 lol
It doesn't have the pull ghostbusters had, they'll have to rely on controversy for it to not be overlooked entirely
[editline]11th August 2016[/editline]
Just like they had to take the Ocean's title because lack of confidence in the idea
