Totoro and Mononoke are two different movies with two different stories, of course they're different. Totoro is for all ages, Monoke is for 7+.
Mononoke is pg-13, where did you pull 7+ from.
If you removed the violence in Mononoke I don't see a single aspect of that movie that wouldn't make it a childrens movie.
Yes, if you removed the violence from mononoke you have a childrens movie, because then literally nothing happens, like 80% of that movie is violence. I also recall there being some reference to prostitution at one point.
Because the point still stands. There isn't any violence in there that isn't childrens friendly. It's comedical or non-bloody violence, a slightly more mature version of Tom and Jerry in that aspect.
The only thing that would make it children unfriendly, at least for the youngest is the pig. It's like The Groke in moomins.
Child-friendly non-bloody cartoon violence:

I am not comparing the movie to Tom and Jerry, I'm comparing the level of violence.

What is "my opinion"?

What is the point of making this argument:
"... you actually saying that violence is the only thing that makes something not a kids movie, it's not a kids movie at all"
When you even think that the violence is the only thing that makes it into a not-kids-movie yourself?

Good job, it's stated both in the image and my arguments and even the quote that the pig is the only thing in that movie that could be considered non-children friendly, and what is your counter-argument? The pig.

I also said I remembered there being like, a fucking whorehouse in it or something, it's been years since I saw it and I'm not about to rewatch a movie just to find every not child friendly point for an argument on the internet, but I literally had another reason for it not to be kid friendly in that post you quoted.
Also, level of blood doesn't change that fact that a LARGE amount of this movie is combat, if you take that away you're left with what, fancy painted backgrounds? you said removing the violence would make it kid friendly, but even without blood the combat is extremely violent so I assumed you meant to remove all of the violence IE the whole fucking movie.
Princess mononoke without violence is kid friendly but it's also not a movie.

[sp]The main character literally gets buried in corpses during a massive battle where thousands die. Not human but still pretty crazy shit.[/sp]
I'm reminded of the review I saw on Amazon for Spirited Away before the DVD was actually available. It was by a father who allegedly took his four-year-old to see it, assuming it'd be perfectly fine because it's Disney, right? He missed the fact that it's rated PG for "some scary moments".
[sp]Bloody Haku after the paper bird attack[/sp] scared the kid so much he had to leave. And then he complained about it on Amazon as if it was Studio Ghibli's fault that he's a dumbass, but anyway.
I think 10+ could watch Mononoke and enjoy it, and not completely lose their shit and be traumatized for life at the boar god corruption/death scenes. That doesn't make it child-friendly.

Unless you have taught your child what a whore is and what a whorehouse is, then that's completely irrelevant.
Childrens shows are filled with sexual innuendos and adult jokes to keep parents sane. Children don't pick up on them because they don't understand them.
Yes, a large amount of the movie has combat. Robin Hood has large amounts of combat as well. Just seeing people fight against eachother isn't something that scares children away. Seeing people dragging peoples guts out and eating them for dinner and getting close ups of blood pouring out as the body hits the ground, sure, that scares children to death. But a comedical arm slice and people waving spears at eachother isn't very brutal.
The story is very much about silly evil people (portrayed in a comedic light) fighting clearly good guys and some nature rising against humans because of their lack of respect for it. Sort of a lesser version of Naausica of the Valley of the Wind.

The way his hands just get sliced right off and get stuck on the tree as he has a goofy expression just being baffled about what happened, yes, it is comedical. It is clearly intended to be a funny scene.
It's like when a cartoon character gets shot and they get a hole in their body and they just look at it and start touching it and wonder what just happened. Again, very Tom & Jerry type of violence, it just has some added detail to it.
I love Studio Ghibli very much. Their movies are going to be like the golden age of Disney now, something you can still show your kids after they're long gone.

Picked this up at a Ghibli art show a couple of months ago. Probably one of my favorite Ghibli movies besides My Neighbors the Yamadas.
It's probably more due to hayao miyazaki retiring than anything else.
i wouldn't be surprised if it is like the other 10 times he retired, but i also wouldn't be surprised if it is for real
This always makes me scratch my head given how most of the Ghibli movies are just pretty standard farce children movies with some cool creature designs added on top of them.
Well you know despite what you think of the stories or themes it also has to do with the absolutely fantastic animation, music, art direction and pacing
On the topic about the amount of violence in Princess Mononoke, I really like it because it makes the whole movie seem more mature and intense. It's a movie for everyone, not only children. I don't know but Mononoke doesn't feel like a kids movie but it can be seen by kids. The violence and somewhat creepier scene have a huge impact on a movie that shows such beauty and harmony on many occaisons. It's hard to describe.
It's just like some old cartoons that had incredibly dark and creepy undertone that you don't notice as a kid or just only realize a lot later. Like every good cartoon had this eerie or gruesome part in it that made it even better and more impactful.

That goofy expression is what we typically refer to as "shock". It's a perfectly normal thing when your fore-arms suddenly decide they'd look better hanging from a tree.
I bet you're going to say Pom Poko's original cut is child-friendly because there's no blood and only comical violence using the comically large testicles of comical tanukis.

Tom and jerry doesn't fucking have gore in it holy FUCK. Like you're not usually this wrong about shit. Somewhat wrong most of the time, but not THIS wrong.
Like, are you joking right now?

I don't know how you don't understand that a more mature version of Tom and Jerry is the violence you find in Tom & Jerry combined with blood.
What exactly do you imagine when I say the violence is a more mature version of Tom & Jerry?
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3655193/TomJerVsPrince.jpg[/t]
It's usually comical and very simplistic. It's not horror or slasher degree of gore, it's just a sliced arm or a bloodied up pig.
Princess Mononoke is a movie with a lot of violence, but the violence is not depicted in a violent or gory way at all. It's very easy on the eyes and mind, it doesn't depict the gruesome reality of losing body parts or being hacked to death, people get decapitated or die and there is nothing special about it, there is no weight to human life in the movie, they are just pawns to move the story long along and make a greater statement about humanity as a whole. The actual fighting and violence is very tame and simplistic.
It's not much different from seeing any childrens movie hero moving down bad guys left and right, the only difference is some blood.

You're so completely fucking off base here I don't even know where to begin
yeah remember that part in Tom and Jerry where Tom decapitates a policeman out of rage during a brutal massacre, or when Jerry's flesh evaporates off of his bones
hey remember saving private ryan

haha look at that his arm is just disconnected from the stump with some red on it haha just like tom and jerry but with blood!

Did dgg watch the same movie as the rest of us?
I remember the first movie I saw from them.. Kiki's Delivery Service, I still have it on VHS. Anytime there was a "bring a movie to school day" I always brought it. Needless to say the movie was the one that would always win the votes for being played that day. Second movie of them I saw was Spirited Away. I kinda fell in love with No-Face as a character.
