Problem is, being a anonymous jackass just for the sake of it is what's the cause and reason for old geezers and conservatives trying to restrict the hell out of it. It's basically like giving your enemy ammunition, only retards do that.
So? Shouldn't you be able to be an anonymous jackass just for the sake of it? Is that not part of the Internet?
Not to mention most of those sub's still were pretty much privacy violating on the subjects ESPECIALLY creepshots and jailbait.
if it's illegal then remove it
So? Shouldn't you be able to be an anonymous jackass just for the sake of it? Is that not part of the Internet?
Sure, if you're willing to run the risk of some other jackasses finding out all of your personal information and spreading it around. After all, is that not part of the internet?
The wife needs to beat the ever loving shit out of him
He would often sit with his wife posting porn while she was posting cute animal pictures on other reddit boards, their entire family is morally bankrupt. I believe they're also all reddit users, his son called 'spawn of Violentacrez' while his wifes was something similar. Violentacrez from what I read is a fucked up individual anyway, he fucked his stepdaughter when he was previously married to another woman, also receiving a blowjob.
yes a reporter for Gawker adrian chen, who hates reddit. who techically did blackmail.
It's not blackmail. It's journalism. It's reporting. This dude moderated a huge amount of subreddits — including the most popular ones, and the two which came under media attention, jailbait/creepshots. He was a power user, a public figure of sorts.

Close enough I guess.
I remember last December when Chen posted a very educational article about how he believed that Christmas displays in stores were offensive to him because he believed it demanded him to be a Christian.
so chen is a r/atheism subscriber?
Adrian Chen is a joke. I know a lot of users here believe many subreddits started banning Gawker because they like their creepy pictures. That's not why. Chen was blackmailing this guy and threatening to reveal his identity if he didn't get it his way. That's not journalism. Though this guy is a creepy fuck, there's no denying that.

This is kind of wrong...
This story must hit pretty close to home eh?
Grow up

"primarily managed two 'subreddits', a type of user-managed forum, titled 'Jailbait' and 'Creepshots'." Creepy mother fucker

Oh holy shit I didn't expect it to be violentacrez when I saw the title copypaste from my last comment in a thread like this:
as a former Redditor I feel obligated to fill in the details here. Basically violentacrez was famous for being the site's most fucked up member, a moderator of and regular contributor to many pornographic and otherwise explicit subreddits. He was known to be especially fond of jailbait, although in contrast to some of his other interests that seems relatively normal. If you have some time, the guy's son did an AMA a year ago (confirmed by violentacrez himself). It's pretty hilarious and incredibly fucked up: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comment...enage_son_ama/
Whoa this is so cool! Let's publicly shame a person and ruin his life because he posted images online! Even though what he was doing was terrible and morally wrong, this not only solves nothing, but makes the internet look weak. I mean nowadays we are fighting for our rights to be anonymous online and here we are all cheering and celebrating the fact that someones personal information was thrown online and his life was ruined. Great job everyone.
so wait, and i might be wrong here, but chen tells cruz to close the creepshots reddit, which he does, and delete his account, which he does, unless he wants chen to reveal cruz' personal info and then he reveals it anyway man whether or not you think cruz was a sick fuck it makes chen sound like a douchebag

Great job everyone.
what's more important to you? women + underage girls not having to worry that that creepshots of them are going to be posted online, or the anonymity of people who do shitty things like that?
so wait, and i might be wrong here, but chen tells cruz to close the creepshots reddit, which he does, and delete his account, which he does, unless he wants chen to reveal cruz' personal info and then he reveals it anyway man whether or not you think cruz was a sick fuck it makes chen sound like a douchebag
Chen is a douchbag along with all the reddit admins. They are pretty much entirely incompetent at their jobs and are one of the main reasons for how terrible the site has become.
what's more important to you? women + underage girls not having to worry that that creepshots of them are going to be posted online
As long as mobile cameras exist, so will creepshots. And as long as the internet exists, they can be posted online. I don't think releasing some guy's info on the internet will stop that from happening.
Personally I find it stupid that this is such a big deal. You should be allowed to be an anonymous jackass on the Internet without being beat up.
He was an anonymous jackass who posted a lot of questionably legal material though He wasn't even really anonymous for that matter, his pseudonym ultimately allowed Adrian Chen to link his online activity to his real identity. If you're going to do what violentacrez did, you'd be best off posting completely anonymously (i.e. on a website with no registration) and behind a proxy, not that I at all endorse what violentacrez has done.
so wait, and i might be wrong here, but chen tells cruz to close the creepshots reddit, which he does, and delete his account, which he does, unless he wants chen to reveal cruz' personal info
You're completely wrong indeed
Chen was going to reveal his identity no matter what he did, Creepshots got closed because Reddit feared negative attention, not because Chen made them close it. Violentacrez himself said that Chen didn't blackmail him in any way. [editline]16th October 2012[/editline] Fuck me, the guy above said the same fucking thing. Damn son.
He was an anonymous jackass who posted a lot of questionably legal material though
what's your point?
I always wondered about Facepunch's hate affair with Reddit, strange how most of the content in this subforum is copypasta'd from r/worldnews...
In February of this year, Reddit was forced to ban the 'Jailbait' subreddit following a public outcry, but this has not stopped the site from achieveing cult status on the internet, with 3.4 billion page views this August.
Was probably 10 billion before February...
