• 800-year-old Tree at Vancouver Island Park falls to Illegal Loggers

That tree has likely been through so much shit in it's 800 years, only for it to be ended by a greedy cunt with a powersaw only wanting its raw material, no care at all as well considering they damaged the park while trying to cut it down. I find that quite disgraceful especially considering from the sounds it's a Thuja plicata/Pacific Redcedar (even though its not a true Cedar, mindfuck much) which can last a really long time, a prime example would be the Quinault Lake Redcedar which is fucking huge, bigger than this tree that was cut down, imagine how much shit there would be if someone cut down that monster. Its just a real pitty, there are tree farms for a reason and Redcedar isn't the hardest tree in the world to grow, it just takes time to get to an ideal size.

If this happened in England all hell would break loose, I remember week long protests because the council wanted to cut one tree down in a village, people were arrested and the council cut it down in the middle of the night. Trees are serious business here
This is very sad, it was born before the Renaissance. It lived to see the birth of Da Vinci. It was young at the time of Snorri Sturluson. It's a recording beacon of history, discounting its beauty. Any tree older then 500 should be protected. Respect your elders.
Okay, I can see this is a pretty bad thing, but it's hardly an atrocity to say humanity as a whole is fucked up.
It's just sad how disrespectful people can be.
Prometheus was disastrous though.
Fucking cunts, hope the police catch these plonkers.

A horrible shame.
I want to stomp the logger's throat out with a steel-toed boot

It was located nowhere near Da Vinci. Probably all it saw was dat bark of a sexy tree nearby.
I want to stomp the logger's throat out with a steel-toed boot
a bit far don't you think?
Stupid shits. What kind of person would do such a thing?
Stupid shits. What kind of person would do such a thing?
Someone who cares about feeding themselves and their family more than some stupid tree.
my grandpa was a tree :(
my grandpa was a tree :(
My grandpa was a vegetable
They use to cut down redwoods all of the time, and they're even older than that.
Sure did. To the point where they went from covering more than two million acres of California's coast in 1850 (before major logging efforts began) to less 100,000 acres by 1919. Thankfully, people finally got pissed off enough and organized to successfully convince the state government that they really needed to step in and stop the indiscriminate over-logging that was going on with them. So now, we have awesome stuff like the Save the Redwoods League (which has helped to restore 25,000 acres worth of redwoods), the Redwood National and State Parks, and the Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
But we need the wood.
All this for a tree? Jesus fuck if someone died, he/she wouldn't have this much attention. And then we got people here who want to go to another planet for this...
It's a tree, not some war superhero. A fucking tree. Unless the tree was a significant figure in history, it means nothing. Are you implying that things that are smaller and live less than us shouldn't be respected? What a perspective.
Cypher_09 declares war on all non-tree entities more on this at 11 You sound ridiculous hahaha.
All this for a tree? Jesus fuck if someone died, he/she wouldn't have this much attention. And then we got people here who want to go to another planet for this...
Another planet has no trees
I doubt the tree saw any of that. It was located nowhere near Da Vinci. Probably all it saw was dat bark of a sexy tree nearby.
Also of note, Trees have no eyes. [editline]19th May 2012[/editline] Oh fuck oh shit i take it all back don't hurt me please
Probably cut them up in smaller logs?
Uh, I mean how did they transport the logs. I assume they didn't just have Paul Bunyan standing by to pick up the logs and place them in their truck. This isn't some backyard Oak, look at the diameter of that stump.

Nice try, but not quite there yet
I shall await the next "sensationalist" headline here and see Fpers saying their lives are over because of some retarded thing. Its rather amusing.
Reminded me of this: [editline]19th May 2012[/editline] Though a 800 year old beast like that is something that should just be left alone unless it absolutely has to come down for safety reasons. It's just a testament for the awesomeness of life. Cut down some other boring ass tree.
But we need the wood.
No we don't. We don't need 800 year old wood when we have wood from managed sources.
No we don't. We don't need 800 year old wood when we have wood from managed sources.
Who are you to say that?
I hate it when I agree with you, but yeah. It's a tree. Have you looked outside recently? The fuckers are everywhere.
No they're not or our planet wouldn't be as fucked up as it is.
Someone who cares about feeding themselves and their family more than some stupid tree.
Yeah fuck the legality of cutting down protected tree's, my house needs a nice looking floor. [editline]19th May 2012[/editline] Sure it's a just a tree, but it's still not legal what they did.
