Think about it, it's wise to go a bit overboard. The entire planet is watching them as a nation, and if they fuck up, they WILL be personally blamed, no matter who is to actually blame. Also, this would literally be the best spot on the planet to do a terror attack.

It's too bad that the invaders will be expecting this and send Privateers and Pirates.
I know it sorta has to sound like it sounds to be effective but it would be totally awesome if it sounded like this, instead:

Sonic weapon?

Aw man I was expecting one of those directed sound cannons so they could pinpoint terrorists from a stadium away and go all "oi, cunt" on them

...that's what it is.
I thought of Sonic Screwdriver:
Golden is saying that the LRAD is inhumane because it causes permanent hearing damage, I'm saying water cannons can also cause permanent damage. They aren't really that much more humane. [editline]11th May 2012[/editline] The LRAD probably won't disorient the person when properly used. People respond instantly to any pain inflicted upon them. So tell me, what's the difference between using an LRAD and flashbang in terms on its potential damage to the person. You aren't understanding me, I don't care that flashbangs aren't used in crowd control, I'm assuming you are calling the LRAD inhumane. Yea, you can adjust it, but for it to be effective it needs to be dangerous.
The difference is that a watercannon CAN cause permanent damage, maybe if you get it in the eyes or something, while the LRAD can be switched to HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE GO DEAF IN AN INSTANT by the press of a button.

I for one always blame the killer instead of the one being killed.
There is a difference between trying to prevent mass scares in stadiums by intelligent pathway design and all that and bringing in the goddamn millitary .
Oh jesus I just found out there was a massacre at the 1972 Olympics.
I honestly did not know that.
Now do you (and others) understand the minor overreaction from the UK government? I just get this feeling that they do not want to be in anyway associated with something like that happening again.
I also believe this sort of level of security has been normal for a while, its just that no other country has shouted about it and made it very very public.
They'll keep it after the Olympics too.
London is like a testing ground for Orwellian ideas.
So, when can we start frying people from a long range?
Since quite some time ago.
Maybe some sort of publicity stunt.
If they want real publicity they should let David Tennant carry the torch while wielding his own "sonic weapon", heh.

Next week they will announce Mario.

That's a real poster used by Transport for London, attempting to make people "feel safe", although I think "paranoid" is more likely.
On the other hand, the Russians arrested those people targeting the 2014 Winter Olympics, so it's not unlikely some extremist nutjobs somewhere are contemplating it.
Jesus it's like they're expecting a goddamn alien invasion during the Olympics or something.
Don't be silly.
*Looks away*
They are on to us!

I don't see your point, it CAN make people deaf but it won't be used in that way. Just like a gun CAN kill people, or a helicopter CAN fire a missile into a crowd. It won't happen.
It's just an LRAD.

Good for crowd control.
The same LRAD that made a non-protesting bystander to have permanent ear problems in Pittsburgh. Fantastic
How to stop rioters:
Threaten to cut off their internet permanently. That'll get em.
Isn't the LRAD used on ships to protect from pirates?
Also, water cannons uses some soap water thing so you get the soap in the eye feeling.
And free shower I guess.

That'd probably work BETTER simply because of the creepiness factor involved.
Play that at the volume of the LRAD and I bet people would run screaming.
Hell, stick the damn speakers on a tripod with giant heat rays for the hell of it, too.

That looks right out of freaking 1984.

More fool them for not going away.
Honestly I'd prefer if they just used the one that microwaves people until they go away, at least that one won't give you permanent tinnitus.

I would be ok with this.
