GBS 1.4 isn't policed and is like a semi-serious FYAD/OIFY, before you paint the entire site with the same brush tia
That thread you posted is actually mildly entertaining

I think it is fitting that the splitting point between Facepunch and SomethingAwful would be the fucking comic Xkcd. Jesus Christ.
Also, those posts are from 2008 and 2007.
Times might have changed.

that thread is literally commenting on this brand new news about the new book on Mar 5, 2014
To be honest, I find XKCD annoying sometimes, mainly when it is trying to be sentimental. I think you can only portray so much through the medium of stick figures without looking parodic, so I think it kind of misses the mark when you take something that might be a little ham-handed and cloying in any medium and use stickmen.

Whoops,I accidently misread the registration date for the post date.
Bad reading x 1
i think something awful hates xkcd http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3613779&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=1
but this is also the forum that has a hateboner for us http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3601955&pagenumber=1&perpage=40#post424314515
Something Awful is a really fucking shitty community for the most part. And I even paid for a membership, but it's not even worth my time.
Edit: I've been a member for a few years and visit occasionally, but everywhere i visit this is this feeling of "We're so awesome, fuck everything"

We're not as elitist as SA- just one more reason we're better.

That's completely sound logic.
Also this is a level beyond "Nice Guy"

Why are you arguing about which forum is better in a clear cut case of being seperate equals. Don't be dumb.

you don't find either of those things funny?
you don't find either of those things funny?
Not when the guy is actually pining for someone and putting them into their comic.
The name Megan derives from a lost love of the author's. He wrote a passive-aggressive toast in a comic for her wedding about how he was madly still in love with her, generally ruining the day for everyone involved
wait, that comic is real? thats kind of pathetic.

Meh, why care really? It's a bit of a cruel joke, but you can't expect an author to keep all negative emotions out of his work.
At least it's not a fucking abortion.

Don't seem to find any credible source that it's actually taken from Randall's life though. explainxkcd doesn't mention it, and they're usually thorough in describing every detail (though I wouldn't know if they're censoring stuff like that). xkcd has some cruel / bitter jokes here and there, and I'd argue that's what makes it good.
Even if it's not real xkcd love comics are the worst, so sappy and pretentious
And then the rest of his stuff is pretty hit and miss with me

He explains mildly interesting things, does stupid nerd jokes not everybody would have thought of, and lets out what he's thinking. As far as artists are concerned that's pretty nice. If you want pretentious he could write overcomplex math equations, tag them with popular game/movie titles, and have phil fish co-author the hovertext

I wouldn't call that a joke in any respect, if that is real then it's beyond Chris Chan levels.
While I have found the majority of XKCD interesting and funny, the comic has had some of the creepiest and downright embarrassing strips Ive seen in a webcomic, also has this kinda snide and pedantic tone that happens a lot. Some notable examples:
Just Friends
Connected (Holy shit, Sour grapes much?)
Unsatisfied
HDTV
Anatomy (what)

Words cannot explain how terrible this one is.
that's the point though to point out how bad a thing it
You know artists do shit like "Megan" all the time, right?
Pursuit of artistic endeavors correlates with the presence of mental disorders, including bipolar disorder, why is it so surprising whenever some crazy slips through?

They are not mutually exclusive.
And fuck me if Nash didn't have some mental problems...

If we're setting the bar for being an artist at drawing stick figures, we all got mental problems.

Polock is considered art.
So....

Eh, so does ownership of sex toys. Science is weird. I'm not dealing in causation here mind you.
