Can we just call this Dada like it's supposed to be.
you dont have a clue what dada is
maybe if it was digimon themed youd find it easier to relate to
How witty and original.

Dadaism was an anti-art movement born out of a negative reaction to World War I. It's pretty much mutated into "Modern Art."
This is Dada:

I would say that's just as much "art" as the one damaged in the article.
I made art.

he forgot to rate this post, what a weird coincidence

it's also completely conceptually different

Here's a pic of what it looked like prior.

So is that picture taken before or after he crahed into it?

I suppose that technically, dada isn't art because it's against art, but then because it's an object that's trying to express a meaning, it therefore is art.
By the way, isn't the point of modern art that you try and think about what it could mean, rather than being given a certain meaning by the artist himself? Normally if modern art has some sort of definite meaning behind it, it's at least relatively understandable if you have a decent knowledge of it.

Not only can i give you a description of what the art is, but you can get an interpretation of it.
This, is not art:

It a hunk of metal that you get called stupid for not understanding, just so people can look smart.
Art requires effort. Just because it's open for interpretation, doesn't mean it's nothing but interpretation.
You clearly don't understand what art is, so don't try to tell people what's art and what's not.

Except in the instance of Pop-art, Dada has barely contributed to modern art when compared to the influence of cubism, constructivism, futurism, surrealism etc. I would say that in the scheme of things Dada has had a lot less of an effect than you'd think.
Calling the artwork in question Dada is not only wrong, it really speaks how little you know about 20th century art history
it's art guys, just because you don't like it doesn't change that. Art isn't prestigious or amazing, it's just describing a feeling. It doesn't have to be "good" or all super detailed and insane.

I don't think it's a coincidence that his description of Dada is almost identical to a quote prominently featured on the wikipedia page
Shit the artist is an abstract-expressionist. A movement which, astoundingly, happens to be squarely in the 'definitely not Dadaist anti-art' side of art along with every artistic movement ever except for Dada (and possibly Pop-art)
The most creative thing ever produced in Indiana. I would know that because I live here and all we care about is corn and the Indy 500.
this is the last place i wouldve expected close-minded posts about modern and contemporary art.
first of all, everybody will agree. this piece of art is bad.
also you guys say "oh i can do this." you think you can do it? do it. i'll enjoy laughing as you fall flat on your face as you get nobody to notice you. seriously go do it go freeze your shit or make a blank canvas and get somebody to sell it. if you wanna make an attempt pm me your location if you're near a major city and i'll hook you up with a gallery ok.
just because it doesnt look like a landscape, doesn't have a face, or isn't a picture of something doesn't mean it's not art. this still took effort. i cant figure out why you guys would think otherwise.
Nowhere near as much effort as learning how to paint or draw anything noteworthy.
but most of them do learn. i'd think this piece requires more effort than painting or drawing something. may take more time to draw or paint but sculptures even if they look simple take a good amount of effort.

This whole debate reminded me of this (mildly NSFW) for various reasons...
I could only imagine, winner in this situation. :v:
Definition of art from Google:
"The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power"
i kinda feel we should send a replica of this

into outer space, and label it "Expression of human creative skill and imagination", just to make an alien civilization go "seriously?"
this thing haunts me in my DREAMS
Why did I read that as Indian Man?
since people seem to react so much to a few steel girders, I made some art too:

This thread is just as bad as the kanye west thread where people literally dismissed an entire genre of music because 'lol sampling'
who cares what you think is art
missing the point 101 with
this guy
The fact that this particular piece has caused an argument so easily probably qualifies as an artistic achievement.
Crashing just made it more avant garde than ever before, it's edgy, it's hip!
So guys
A guy crashed into a thing
Anyone wanna talk about that
I'm all for people expressing their thoughts and ideas and calling it art; but I just feel that modern abstract art like this is just lazy. I'm fairly certain my nephew could stack Lincoln logs in a similar fashion and the only thing stopping it from being considered "Art" is the fact that he can't bullshit us and come up with some excuse to explain the ~deep~ meaning behind his inspiration.

I though it would be that painting series done by some Asian woman which depicted her having sex with all of the US presidents.

I think it's more that FP will argue over anything.
