You know, im fine with conceding that stuff like this is art since it invites discussion and thought and such
but I dont think I'll ever understand why anyone ever would buy or put these up in a museum
You can't deny it's art. If the person who made it intended to make art, then it's art.
That doesn't mean it doesn't look like shit though.
The fact that this particular piece has caused an argument so easily probably qualifies as an artistic achievement.
With other words, this thread is a piece of art too?
The fact that this particular piece has caused an argument so easily probably qualifies as an artistic achievement.
Is 'A Serbian Film' art then?

I still remain convinced that things like scribbling on a urinal, shitting in a box, poking a white piece of paper with a knife etc. aren't art in the slightest. The fact that there's countless people that pay money to go see a dude screaming at a canvas, or another one sitting in front of a piano and doing nothing for a few minutes, saddens me greatly.
My only hope is that ~modern artists~ are just trolling and stuff like this is just an elaborate scam.
Is 'A Serbian Film' art then?
To those who see it as being art, yes.
To those that don't, no.
What constitutes 'art' is whether you the viewer, the audience member, the participant believes it to be or not.
Art in all its forms is a journey one which is very personal but is also one that is shared what meanings, intentions and purposes derived from it are ultimately the audiences prerogative to determine. They maybe the same, different, exact opposite or you could just see it as pure bilge but because you don't perversive it have one doesn't mean that it doesn't have one it just means that it, for whatever reason just doesn't resonate with you.
Is 'A Serbian Film' art then?
Yes, it's the director's vision... whether you like it or not.
The fact that this particular piece has caused an argument so easily probably qualifies as an artistic achievement.
more like an autistic achievement amirite
Any person could just freeze their shit and call it art.
why dont you go do that then
have fun
Yes, it's the director's vision... whether you like it or not.
So that baby scene is art?
I don't think anyone would call that art.
I made art.

It's a depiction of hoodoo456
Aww, the picture's broken, I'm really curious to see what it was. :v:
Then i'm sure you'd love a typical junk yard.
if it was a junk yard designed by an artist in a way that is meaningful to him and others, or representative of something, then yeah, art!!!
Any person could just freeze their shit and call it art.
if it was that simple, everyone would be a super rich talented artist
So that baby scene is art?

Are you dense or something? what is it that makes you incapable of recognizing that it is in fact art irrespective of how tasteless or violent it is?
I'm not asking you to like all art, no-one can, but don't dismiss it because your conception of art doesn't include it
so much buttmad in this thread jesus christ
i see art as something physical that you can interpret for yourself
the structure in op most definitely is art to me
now watch as i get dumbs for having an opinion and stuff yeah
this thread is art
So that baby scene is art?

It's a fucking film, no matter how pretentious or offensive, people spent money and time to choose things to film and publish.
Even the experimental sound film made in the late 1800s, it still can be interpreted to be artistic when it isn't intended to be, it's all about the viewer.

I'm interested to hear your definition of art, if you'd care to share it

I like this kind of art; sue me.
Granted, I don't like it in front of museums and such, I think that's a waste of it. But it's fairly common in parks and on streets around where I live, and it's just kind of... Odd and abstract enough to give a nice breakoff from the boring, slightly dirty, 1970s city blocks that are all over the place. It's not pretty or very meaningful in my eyes, but it's different, and it's a break for the eyes to look over.
[editline]18th June 2013[/editline]
Also, abstract sculptures look a lot better in real life than they do in pictures. As you walk/drive past them, you get to see them from different angles and various lighting.
Though I do prefer raw rusted steel over painted orange. That's just me.
i like "modern art". a lot of art hands you the meaning and picture in a very straightforward manner, which is certainly alright, but modern art has me look at it and think, imagine, and work to try and figure out the intent of the piece. i like to interpret, analyze, and think about abstract things, and a lot of "modern art" requires a ton of interpretation and analysis.
i don't get the term 'modern art' didn't people make weird ass shit back in the old days too?
[editline]18th June 2013[/editline]
also for people saying modern art or whatever is effortless i'd like to see you do that to metal girders
[editline]18th June 2013[/editline]
also: i wonder if bender was the artist? hahaha lol
Aww, the picture's broken, I'm really curious to see what it was. :v:
