Does anybody here understand sarcasm at all?
I never learned that language before, I opted to take spanish in high school.
...I don't know of anyone that has a (home) landline anymore.
We only have a landline for the odd 0845 number, which is a premium line in the UK, and the internet.
I would refuse that gift so hard if I was him.
Some of the rules are indeed extreme, but there is quite a few that are noteworthy.
Also, this mother probably never installed any software before, did she?
Don't agree with some of it. You should be able to take as many pictures as you want. Helps you remember things. Also, the "wonder without Googling" thing. No. Why should you just wonder about something when you can google it and gain knowledge?
Over protective parents.
Abusing google is not ok, you're just training your mind to be lazy.
Wow it's like she's one of the FP people who hate teens for duckfaces and using phones everywhere. Except she actually forces her shit down his throat. Rules are fine, stupid rules like this are not. "Documenting" your shit through photos and videos is a great idea actually. When you get older you can learn from what a shithead you were. Or alternatively have these memories for when you're way older and your body is no longer what it used to be. It's still nice to look at all the random photos I took with my cheap ass camera when I was 11.

You might end up getting your privacy invaded even more if you did that.
At 13 years old, these are relatively light rules. Assuming these will begin to get removed as he gets older, I can see myself doing something very similar to my own child when I get them their first phone.

i will feel sorry for your child

And before anyone says it, yeah, I fucking know that Google isn't exactly the most accurate source of information. That's why it's so fucking important to use it. Learning to tell the difference between information that's accurate and information that's bunk is a thousand times more important than the individual bits of information themselves. That's why using Google is so important. It teaches you not to trust everything you read, and it can also give you the answer to pretty much any question once you learn to be discerning.
Bet his mom reads his fucking texts and shit too.
You might end up getting your privacy invaded even more if you did that.
And thus begins teenage rebellion, a fun time for all involved.
15. Download music that is new or classic or different than the millions of your peers that listen to the same exact stuff. Your generation has access to music like never before in history. Take advantage of that gift. Expand your horizons.
wtf how can she tell him what music to listen to
Yes, it was sarcasm. I thought people would detect that :v:
Protip: Use italics. That's usually the way to tell if somebody is being sarcastic.
wtf how can she tell him what music to listen to
Sounds like she's trying to force a hippie/hipster lifestyle down his throat, while still letting him have an iPhone.
wtf how can she tell him what music to listen to
She's basically transforming him into a wierdo.
Sure, listen to other stuff, but don't dismiss popular music or music from a particular genre because it's popular. It's often popular for a reason.
that moms a fucking cunt.
and this article fucking pissed me right the fuck off.
if i ever find this fucking bitch...
She just sounds like she's trying to completely control this poor kid's life.
Man, I would hate to be him.
This chick does seem like a bit overbearing, but some of this makes sense to me. Stuff like not letting him go bonkers with the thing and restricting his use of certain functions until he's mature enough to not fuck them up does make a bit of sense.
Some of it is complete and utter bullshit though.
That's just stupid. What if he wants to contact one of his friends or maybe even his parents if something's gone wrong?
While you have a point, so does the mom. So many people these days are so fucking lost in Facebook and their smartphone that they literally can't hold a proper conversation anymore. I've seen it in person with my own cousins, they'll all be seated at the same table right next to each other chatting away on Facebook. When the net dies? The only thing they can say is "Fix the net!". It's sickening. I may not be the greatest conversationalist to ever live, but fuck, I can do better than that.
Why get a phone with a camera if you can't take however many photos photos or videos you like?
The intent behind that is to make it so he's not so busy taking a picture of inconsequential bullshit that he can't actually enjoy anything. I haven't seen this in person, but you gotta wonder how some people manage to get around when they're constantly tweeting photos of random shit nobody cares about...
Is this kid 13 or is he 3?
You'd be surprised how often this difference is purely physical.
that moms a fucking cunt.

what are you gonna do? give her a stern talking-to?
what are you gonna do? give her a stern talking-to?
you damn well bet! i'd be livid.
P.sure she's (the mother) is about to get terrorized online.
"Stare out a window. Listen to the birds. Take a walk. Talk to a stranger. Wonder without Googling.
so deep, that mother must love to have her ass massaged by her own head.
I remember my parents made me and my sister do this when we got our second and last home computer (after an old 486 with Windows 3.1 and then 98).
That and other things our parents made us do are the reason why my sister stopped enjoying most videogames.

You can't trust books either. It was a long time ago I was doing some report on some biology bullshit and this one book that was recommended turned out to have a fuckton of wrong information. During another instance there was a book about WW2 that also had more than one fact wrong. Not just minor details either.
Anyone who says not to use google and instead use books is a fool and an ignorant person in my eyes.

The real life example of this would be your average facebook-teenager.
If a tree falls in the forest, and it's not on instagram or facebook in the next 15 minutes, the tree never existed. That's basically how they live their life.

"Damn, I don't know how to solve this math shit, I'll search for it on the newspaper".
I don't think you understand the difference between these two, right?
Abusing libraries is not ok, you're just training your mind to be lazy.
No you're not, when you go to the library there is actual effort, you need to search for the book by hand, pick the correct one, search for the information, etc.
Abusing textbooks is not ok, you're just training your mind to be lazy..
If you use a textbook for ABSOLUTELY everything, yeah. There's a reason why you study a subject before hand, a reason for you to exercise certain aspects, so you don't need to look it up whenever you're given a certain problem.
Point is, there's a difference between using google when you require a certain piece of information and abusing it whenever you're met with a problem, the later being dangerous for a 13 y/o kid which is still growing and developing his wits.
