In regards to this, the teachers at my school are more than retarded. It's okay to get information from a single website, however, you're not allowed to use Wikipedia. So you'd rather me get information from one person, rather than a massive source that's constantly updated by thousands of people?
Wikipedia is somewhat of a self-correcting encyclopedia. Any information that manages to get mucked up will be either not be verified or changed nearly instantly by people who do know what they're talking about.

It's beautiful, really.
It's tragic how wikipedia is regarded. Wikipedia is the hero the internet deserves!
I hate parents who turn their kids into little cult objects like this
Give the poor little fuck some freedom he only has one life
That's fucking easy to get around. Just have it on your computer. Doesn't state that you actually have to listen to it, presto. Besides, what weirdo of a parent forces a music taste on their child?
It's weird, because it implies that everyone in his circle of friends listens to the same kind of music.
All of my friends had totally different "Default" tastes, and only occasionally did they overlap in such a way as to produce something that we all liked.
Do lots of people really listen to the same stuff? I can't see how any decently sized group of people would just randomly happen to have the exact same musical tastes.

Even if they do, you sharing some interests with your friends?
WHAT NONSENSE, WE MUST ALL BE UNIQUE LITTLE SNOWFLAKES!
This didn't make me mad until the "wonder without Googling" thing really struck a nerve. It's like if my mom banned me from Wikipedia or something.
Oh wait, late sorry
When my mom got me my iPhone (that I just paid for, they pay the bills for now) all she told me to do was "Don't drop it."
When my mom got me my iPhone (that I just paid for, they pay the bills for now) all she told me to do was "Don't drop it."
good advice. if you do, you won't have one anymore
Okay for the don't take a bunch of photos and videos, why not? Those images can always be deleted but not always taken.
This is true. Not only because of new discoveries and theories, even some modern books have some of those mistakes (Theropods weren't naked like in Jurassic Park nor they had bunny hands), I remember one biology book I had in school that said mammals came from amphibians, like SERIOUSLY?
That's almost true. Mammals diverged from reptiles in the Permian period (that's before the dinosaurs for you laypeople). And reptiles diverged from amphibians in the Carboniferous period. So that's actually indirectly correct.
If you don't trust your fucking kid why would you give him an iPhone?
good advice. if you do, you won't have one anymore
HUH. YOU MAY BE CORRECT ABOUT THAT.
good advice. if you do, you won't have one anymore
My mom's the best at giving advice. :)
This is kind of funny for me at the moment because the current computer that my mom and I use is technically her computer that she lets me use whenever the hell. I'm building a new computer for us soon and she says that since I paid for most of it and I built it, it will be the other way around: I own it and both of us use it. My mom is cool.

I know what you mean, but the order is actually Tetrapoda -> Amniota (Fully terrestial critters that lay eggs with hardened shells) + Amphibia (Modern amphibians go here); then Amniota -> Synapsida (Mammals go here) + Sauropsida (Modern reptiles go here)
So mammals are not even considered true reptiles nor amphibians (Depends of what you call either of them, for example, most prehistoric amphibians are not even considered "True Amphibians" and just sit in Tetrapoda)

Demanding a curfew to have the phone by isn't raising with manners and respect. It's over-restriction.
I like theese rules in a way. But it would be less control. Porn allowed(Sexual developement) and free searching(sometimes, you dont want to do the flowers and bees all the times. What if you think you are gay? Something like that)
Well looks like you've been checking out books on how to talk without actually saying anything, since you don't seem to have anything more substantial than saying that is just doesn't have some vague "library atmosphere".
If you cannot understand the difference in what is gained by researching to find what you want to know compared to finding it out instantly with no effort, then there is no helping you. The research and speculation are arguably as valuable to the developing mind as the answer itself.

"manners and respect"
forces her kid to listen to stupid music that they don't want to listen to
states technology is bad
limits pictures for some artsy reason that makes no sense
I love you madly & look forward to sharing several million text messages with you in the days to come.
That's a big enough reason to not care about the phone anymore.
1. Parents who think like this sound like douchebags. It's like "Oh hey now you are set in life and don't need us... cough up the money we wasted on you".
2. Always know his password? Another good reason to just not have an iPhone, or a phone altogether if the rule remains.
4. What kind of rule is that? Part of owning a phone is having one, and since he can't take it to school which fills up the whole day, what is the point in having one if by 7:30pm you don't have it anymore? Texting doesn't hurts anyone either ffs.
5. Why?! Again, stupid.
6. I've never ever lost a cellphone to anything other than malfunctions of old age. So, if he were to get robbed, he would have to pay for it? Nice!
8 and 9. No freedome allowed eh?
11. What about mommy and daddy calls? What about important calls?
13. Don't get him an iPhone then. Get him a phone without a camera you clod.
14. No, just... no. A phone could be of so much use, why leave it at home? It's like no one you know has a phone for you to contact or get contacted by...
15. Listen to what you goddamn well please, even if it might be universally seen as shit.
17. Let's talk to strangers!
18. Why do people take away one's phone? It would be a reasonable thing to do if his/her life extended through the phone, but in his case, it doesn't.
But then again, he is a teen, and like all other teens.... "Yes mom, I am engaged in emulating each and every rule you have proposed. Have a wonderful day, xoxo", aka, he will lie.
Those are some pretty stupid rules. I'd rather not have a phone if they were enforced ruthlessly.

Its more like preventing them from buying the new linkin park cd or some other shit just because its popular.
If she isnt a fundamentalist christian or conservatarded, she would proably allow him to listen to some good stuff, like metal or jazz. The reason why metal and jazz is unpopular is because the media portrays it respectively as evil noise and dumb boring music weird people listen to.

Pretty much the same with me, but I dared my brother to throw it on the ground as hard as he can (don't ask) and she still got me a new one lol
God what's wrong with me
It's tragic how wikipedia is regarded. Wikipedia is the hero the internet deserves!
I had epic Wikipedia arguments with my English teacher back in eighth grade. Good times.

i dont understand what would be bad about buying the latest linkin park cd
i dont even fucking like popular music but that's not because i decided to be a fucking hipster
Oh god she's like my fucking father, he's going to grow up screwed up in the head like me...
Very dumb woman
I would not even take the phone. Not worth it. I would save up any small money one can make at that age and get a prepaid phone or some shit. Then buy a nice smart phone when he can get a job.

You arent a hipster for feeding money to music companies that are the equalivent of the slaughterhouses making super market meat and milk.
The cows are horrible, the products(meat, milk, leather) are horrible, their companies gives their products way too high prices and putting em everywhere.
Teaching the kid that music isnt good because its popular but because the kid thinks it sounds good and it shouldnt be embarrassed because its not what their classmates listen to, is a good thing.
Teaching your kid to be unique is a good thing in general, because then theres a bigger chance they will actually make an outstanding member of society, someone that brings in something new and not just another consumer and workhorse.

there's a difference between letting your kid be unique and a difference between restricting him to hell and back
you don't fucking make a kid like a certain type of music by forcing it on him, you do so by broadening what he can listen to
i wouldn't be surprised if she restricted it to what she listened to, even
[editline]30th December 2012[/editline]
also, it's pretty fucking naiive to think that if someone listens to popular music that prevents them from being an "outstanding member of society", that's fucking ridiculous
