• Coldplay Might Be Retiring From Music

Better to go when you're still good, then turn into shit and be remembered as shit otherwise people look at your new songs/shows/movies and go "I miss the old X, X SUCKS now!" rather than "I miss that great band/dev/director X" kind of like what happened to powerman 5000
Coldplay got me through my freshman year of high school so I can't say I hate them. They have a couple really good jams if you know where to listen.
Coldplay was literally the first band that I actually considered myself a fan of, though that was back in their X&Y/AROBTTH period. Haven't listened to any of their stuff after Viva La Vida so I can't say I'm gonna miss them, though they will always have a place in my heart.(excuse the corny metaphor)

But I have listened to all their new stuff. Ghost stories was a better album to me than Mylo Xyloto I suggest any of you who like Coldplay listen to an older song of theirs called 'crest of waves' The song spies is notable, too. Glad they are choosing to go out on their own note.
Gotta go while you're still relevant right?
what makes them relevant at all.. they sell a few albums but their music is literally a flat-line these days. [editline]6th December 2014[/editline]
coldplay was really nice until they became radio material
that song is 99% kraftwerk though. Don't understand why everyone's bashing Coldplay like that. I mean yeah they've been pretty lackluster for a while now, but Rush Of Blood and X&Y were amazing albums. Saw them live at Rock Werchter in '09 I think, right after Viva La Vida came out , was easily one of the best performances I've seen.
They make lifestyle music.
If youve ever listened to Chris before, he always talks about how their next album is going to be their "last" because they never know what might happen and so they put all their effort into the album like it would be their last. Its like living every day like its your last, even though you know it probably wont be, but there is no reason not to. And for the people that bash Coldplay, youve obviously never actually listened to their music past a few radio songs. They have some really good songs that are nothing like their other songs. Its clear as day as to those who havent actually listened to the band when they compare them to Radiohead. Coldplay gets too much hate. They aren't great but I'd say they were passionate about their work.
Coldplay's fine and they really paved the way for a lot of similar groups. Their style of laid-back airy alt-rock wasn't even close to mainstream until they came around. That said, Ghost Stories was a terrible album and it's probably for the best that they're quitting.
What's with all the fucking edgelords in this thread even if Coldplay isn't great or to your taste (they're not my type either) they're pretty fuckin' inoffensive :v:
I actually bought this CD/DVD and it's fucking GREAT. (3:30 for awesome)
It’s worth noting that Coldplay’s sixth album, Ghost Stories, released in May, was the band’s lowest selling debut in over a decade.
And that's probably why they're starting in on the "This might be our last album..." sales pitch. They're hardly the first band to stoke retirement rumors to sell an album.
I haven't really listened to them since Viva la Vida, did they really become as bad as some people here are implying?
I haven't really listened to them since Viva la Vida, did they really become as bad as some people here are implying?
They aren't bad, but their newest album wasn't great. That being said I still like most of their music
49 winners. What a bunch of neckbeards.
Haha woah opinions!
I've listened to loads of Coldplay since I was a kid and I can without a doubt say that X&Y and ROBTTH were their best albums. So many great soft songs from them got me through some tough times, but I haven't kept up with them much since then. So I can't really say I'm bummed, since they've already made some great work in the past.
Mylo Xyloto wasn't THAT bad.
Mylo Xyloto is actually probably one of their better works, not quite X&Y but I consider it overall a better album than Viva La Vida. I really enjoy coldplay so this is sad to hear, but I totally get the angle they're coming from
I wouldn't mind tbh, unless they're willing to go back to their old shit, but they seem like the kinda band who always want to do new things whether it's good or not. I still stick on Parachutes all the time, it's just such a chill album.
They're no Justin Beiber. Coldplay at least was on the side of music that isn't slowly killing it
making justin beiber jokes in the year of our lord 2014
apparently it's edgy to say music you find boring's boring. lol
I personally enjoyed their work, and glad they're going out on a relatively good note.
apparently it's edgy to say music you find boring's boring. lol
The term "edgy" is literally fucking meaningless now.
what makes them relevant at all.. they sell a few albums but their music is literally a flat-line these days. [editline]6th December 2014[/editline] that song is 99% kraftwerk though.
beat me to the punch. even though they stole the riff, i believe this is done with most musicians, consciously or unconsciously. even more, they even personally asked Kraftwerk if they could steal it, which i find much more respectable than just straight up jacking it like many artists do. [editline]7th December 2014[/editline]
49 winners. What a bunch of neckbeards.
honestly, i think it's time they all moved on to separate projects. i definitely wouldn't advise that they leave music entirely, as i feel like they're all talented, but i feel as though it's impossible to move past the fact that they're coldplay, and are going to have a hard time moving in any sort of new or experimental direction without catching flak from a vast majority of people. it's hard to regain what you originally sought out to achieve once your name has become a brand.
Go see a good band or something.
yeah see a real band like pink floyd or queen!

Common theme developing here. Coldplay was my own jumping-off point into music that wasn't hand-me-down dad music. I still listen to X&Y and Parachutes occasionally.
I liked them just like I like U2 and Nickelback and yet I hate "greats" like Bruno Mars or Lady Gaguh.
How could Coldplay possibly steal the riff of a song they asked to use, that defies the definition of stealing.
it's an expression smartass.
