Well this morning when it happened they literally said, "Breaking news, a helicopter has hit a building in London, witnesses have reported the helicopter exploded as it hit" so I bet some others thought the same.

He was a very skilled pilot, and was once in the news for his skill when he 'landed' on the roof of a car to allow a paramedic to help people trapped in a flooded car:

The flames in the video look like the fire tracks the DeLorean made in Back to The Future.
This happened in Vauxhall, there is a tube station, train station and a bus station less than a stones throw away from the crash site . As a major commuter Hub for south west London This could have been so much worse than it was. Must have been awful to be there.

it actually happened during the cleanup of the Chernobyl reactor, one of the helicopters assisting accidentally bumped the cables of a crane, and it shredded the blades.

Yeah, but you have to take in that the Pilot was dealing with radiation exposure thousands of times above the recommended yearly limit as he was directly above the plume of radioactive dust.
Oh and Pete was a pilot for the air ambulance in my local area. RIP He saved countless lives

Landed a little too heavily this time.
I'm so sorry.

If I remember correctly, that incident occured due to the massive radiation levels around Chernobyl. The chopper, an Mi-8 carrying somewhere around 16 people, flew right over the power plant, and the radiation levels caused the pilots to black out, and possibly actually die. Keep in mind the maximum time allowed for people to be anywhere near the plant was two minutes, and even then you were still almost certain to die, even with anti-radiation or NBC kit. The same thing happened to a hind, but the pilots survived, and said that they literally blacked out instantly when they flew over the plant. Not sure if that's right, but I heard it quite a while ago, and thought it was interesting. The point still stands, though. In fog that thick, and from the looks of it, without collision lights, you would fly right into the thing without ever seeing it.

never denied that the pilot(s) were under the effect of the radiation.
Sounds like me tryin to drive a helicopter on GTA.

I know, I wasn't saying that, I just thought the backstory to the incident was interesting. Not trying to denounce your point, I agree completely with it.
