To be fair, this really isn't considered "news". It is just a link from a news section of another forum pertaining to one of the forum members. Why are people still whining over this? Who cares about this "graf_chokolo" person. How many of you guys actually modded your PS3? All the nonsense about "freedom" and whatnot is as bad as an angtsty rebellious tween.

This is a real issue. Sony is invading the privacy and freedoms of their consumers. You sound like an old fart who's content with the way things are because it doesn't concern him.

I own a PS3, I have some games, I play online with friends, and watch movies. Sony has done nothing that invades my privacy and my freedom. I can't help but shake the feeling that most of all this hate is nothing more than bandwagon. People complaining, when it is not even affecting them in the first place. Or it actually does and they just cannot accept that it is their own fault in the first place.
Because I shouldn't be able to do what I want with the product I own.
I didn't say anything about doing anything to your PS3. It is your choice to have it modded. Just don't get all whiny if something happens. My Wii is modded, and I know full well all the consequences that come with it. You won't see me complaining if Nintendo did something to brick my Wii.

Sony removed OtherOS which was an advertised feature with no apparent reasoning behind it. Chokolo was working to bring it back. You know what sony did? They raided him. They're also trying to prevent us from running custom firmwares on the products that we own. Explain the validity of that, please. [editline]13th April 2011[/editline] Rated Datsun tool for obvious reasons.
People should go raid Sony and see how they fucking like it.

We have all the reasons to be angry, because we can't do things we want to do with products we PAID our own money for.
Well fuck them. If they think the way they act won't impact the decisions of the young people who snort up everything anyway, and have no standards they are wrong. I will think twice before buying another Sony product. Haven't bought (and played) a single Ubisoft product since they started their shitty DRM either.
Sony is seriously acting like huge dicks right now.
Correction, Sony are big dicks.
It's because they want to get their money back after the colossal failure known as the PSP Go.
Loose floorboard + hide stuff inside + place easily moved furniture over it = no confinscation
People should go raid Sony and see how they fucking like it.
They have security just for that shit.
Loose floorboard + hide stuff inside + place easily moved furniture over it = no confinscation
I disagree. Loose floorboard + hidden room with stuff inside + place easily moved furniture over entrance. Sony probably raided him randomly. He needs a secret lair. :v:

[editline]13th April 2011[/editline] Rated Datsun tool for obvious reasons.
You can google the reason why Sony decided to remove the OtherOS (Some IBM Contract / Geohots Hack / Etc / Pick what makes you feel comfy) feature probably the same as to why Sony raided Chokolo, which probably has more to do with the modification of the software and little to none about re-instating OtherOS. So you modded your PS3 and you go online, next thing you know, something bad happens. You going to blame Sony for doing their job to protect their assets or are you going to blame yourself for not being careful enough?

It doesn't justify sony's reasoning on angering us "angsty tweens".
Sony are just protecting their costumers. When I go play online games on my PS3 I don't want any cheaters ruining the game. They wanted people to have the OtherOS feature but some assholes had to abuse it and since it wasn't used that much it was better to just remove it and prevent any cheating/piracy. PS3 wasn't meant for the OtherOS feature, it was just something nice to have so people could use the performance of the PS3 to run their own programs. If you really want to install another OS so badly then you should get a computer since it would preform much better anyways.

Of course. Also, didn't the us air force or something use OtherOS along with a bunch of other consumers? Doesn't seem minor to me. And yes, the PS3 was meant for OtherOS since it was an advertised feature.

And judging from the content of your posts from the last few threads you are in waaay over your head. I did not use the OtherOS option while it was still on the system, but no "reason" can justify the removal of an advertised feature. I know this is going to be a car analogy, but it is like a car manufacturer advertising their cars having electrical seat warmers, selling a huge bunch of cars and then going around removing the said warmers and blaming people of cooking chickens using the warmers for the removal. It is stupid, it is wrong and the problem is with many many many ignorant or otherwise apathetic people like you, outnumbering and silencing the reasonable people, things are only going to get worse.
And how the fuck do you abuse OtherOS to cheat on online games? Are you dense? It was for linux. Apparently linux is for hackers now.
I disagree. Loose floorboard + hidden room with stuff inside + place easily moved furniture over entrance. Sony probably raided him randomly. He needs a secret lair. :v:
Hidden underground bunker with secret entrance.
orgornot, instead of boxing us, why not give a counter argument?

It is their job to protect their consumers and their interests. They wouldn't give a rats ass if a handful of their consumers decided to modify their product, but because the modification puts their interests and other consumers at risk, they have to do their job.
Like I said. It is their job to protect their consumers and their interests. And funny how chokolo probably has many more ps3s to you but is not in their interest by your logic. Oh and, only a handful of uses HAVE modified the product that THEY own.
How exactly does linux put them at risk? And funny how chokolo probably has many more ps3s to you but is not in their interest by your logic.
Do you even have the slightest idea of why they removed it?
Do you even have the slightest idea of what it is? Because according to your earlier post OtherOS is for PSN Network hackers. And to derail you before you begin,
Sony are just protecting their costumers.
How exactly does linux put them at risk? And funny how chokolo probably has many more ps3s to you but is not in their interest by your logic.
It is not about Sony hating on Linux or anything first of all. Anyone with the right knowledge can re-use that same custom firmware to pirate/cheat/etc.
It is not about Sony hating on Linux or anything first of all. Anyone with the right knowledge can re-use that same custom firmware to pirate/cheat/etc.
Then why remove OtherOS if it's harmless?
Do you even have the slightest idea of what it is? Because according to your earlier post OtherOS is for PSN Network hackers.
It is what it is called. It was meant for installing another OS on the PS3. However, since it had security issues the best choice was to remove it. The majority of PS3 users would rather have an online experience without any cheaters who use this to install custom cheat software (which does in fact exist, and is being used).
Then why remove OtherOS if it's harmless?
Well that depends on how far Geo's "hack" using OtherOS went. It must have gone pretty far to warrant a removal.
