alright i don't know enough about the law but i looked up racketeering and it doesn't sound anything like what they're accusing them of so I'm kinda confused, especially the supreme court case which deals with the government censoring the news??
Basically they've had a massive conflict of interest going on and they knew about. Even if they didn't plan any racketeering they needed neutral parties instead. People who were not connected to them.
the indie games fund isn't the IGF, it's two different things still fraud though
[...] Basically the people who set up IGF found a way to keep all the prize money they raise.
Yep. aka fraud and racketeering, because IGF is essentially run and funded in order to make sure FEZ wins and everyone gets a pay out. even if that's somehow is legal (which it isn't) then it's royally fucked up for anyone who pays a fee to join and ends up learning that the Phil Fish Express specifically votes against them to make a profit.
the indie games fund isn't the IGF, it's two different things still fraud though
Right. Indie Games Fund funds games and in return gets a portion of what they make. The people running Indie Games Fund also happen to be judges on the IGF. They ensure the games they back win and thus they ensure they get a nice bonus in the form of prize money.
this has nothing to do with RICO... RICO is used to take down criminal leaders who order crimes to be committed, sounds more like embezzlement to me
RICO isn't exclusive to mere criminal organizations nor is it limited to what's in bold. There's a reason why it's first two letters mean Racketeer influenced.
fyi dudes it's indie fund, not indie game fund, helps to avoid confusion anyways, i skimmed the contract for IF, it's hilarious fuckovery to developers
Developer shall pay to Indie Fund one hundred percent (100%) of the gross revenue received by Developer from the licensing, sale, distribution or other exploitation of the Game (“Gross Revenue”) and fifty percent (50%) of the gross revenue received by Developer from the licensing, sale, distribution or other exploitation of any work based upon or derived from the Game, until the total amount paid by Developer to Indie Fund equals the Loan.
so you're selling due process coffee mugs? 50% of gross revenue goes to indie fund! oh what's this you finally paid off your indie fund loan, you can breath easy! not.
As additional consideration for Indie Fund’s willingness to make the Loan to Developer, Developer agrees to pay Indie Fund 25% of all Gross Revenue (including revenue generated by exploitation of any work based upon or derived from Game) received by Developer above the Loan amount (“Revenue Share”). The Revenue Share shall apply to the first dollar received by Developer above the Loan amount and all gross revenue received by Developer until the total payment to Indie Fund (Repayment plus Revenue Share) is equal to twice the Loan, or the Term has been reached.
fyi: term is 2 years from INITIAL commercial release you do this with indie fund, prepare to be assraped on a monthly basis for more than 2 years
Let's call him Phil Dish. Because if he goes to jail everybody is going to break off a piece of that ass.
stuff
so that basically confirms they got 25 to 100% of the IGF prize money
so that basically confirms they got 25 to 100% of the IGF prize money
i didn't even think of that holy shit indie gaming just gets better and better
So it's like running a rigged lottery?
so that basically confirms they got 25 to 100% of the IGF prize money
When you put it that way, it's possible they just used Phil Fish as a patsy so they could get at the prize money.
People fund Phil Fish Said people also run IGF IGF awards also come with monetary awards that they get from ticket sales and stuff IGF is rigged and ensures Phil wins IGF pay Phil's company the award money Because they funded Fish and have a stake in his company they also get part of this money Basically the people who set up IGF found a way to keep all the prize money they raise.
The IGF uses hundreds of judges so I don't think it's reasonable to call the entire contest "rigged" based on a conflict of interest with a handful of specific judges.
There's judges and the jury. The judges pick what games are judges and go on through, the jury then picks the games. Blow was on the jury list.
The IGF uses hundreds of judges so I don't think it's reasonable to call the entire contest "rigged" based on a conflict of interest with a handful of specific judges.
Keep in mind that the voting software was developed by one of these investors, too
The IGF uses hundreds of judges so I don't think it's reasonable to call the entire contest "rigged" based on a conflict of interest with a handful of specific judges.
The person who helped coach the Indiecade judges in picking FEZ literally owns shares in Polytron and got a payout when FEZ won. IGF be damned, the Indiecade shit is already damning enough and illegal. If you're telling your judges to vote for a game that you own investment shares in, you should not be in that position of authority. Period.
an actual igf judge, anthony burch, in action:
Also, again, the indie fund has a clause where they get part of the prize winnings if an indie fund game wins.

Jesus christ, it just keeps fucking going. Where does it end? Does it ever end?
Jesus christ, it just keeps fucking going. Where does it end? Does it ever end?
I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be hitting the end of the road soon, and in a damn good way which involves the lid on this whole thing being blown off and sent flying into the goddamn sun.
I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be hitting the end of the road soon, and in a damn good way which involves the lid on this whole thing being blown off and sent flying into the goddamn sun.
A veritable thunder well.
an actual igf judge, anthony burch, in action:
I would love to know whether Anthony Burch was born a douche or whether there was some specific point in his life where he decided to be a douche.
IGF Response (they probably haven't seen the evidence video yet) http://igf.com/2014/09/igf_statement_re_judging_proce.html

Worries about the Independent Games Festival are nothing new (thanks to its perceived 'star-making' qualities), but for those who are unaware, we'll explain again how the process works.
no we're cool guys honest :-)
originally i've not really kept up with this and seen both sides as terrible, but it's becoming increasingly apparent and painfully obvious that there are a number of people with which there are a conflict of interests who are trying to stamp out discussion of something that's blown beyond some dude ranting about his ex girlfriend who made a mediocre game
originally i've not really kept up with this and seen both sides as terrible, but it's becoming increasingly apparent and painfully obvious that there are a number of people with which there are a conflict of interests who are trying to stamp out discussion of something that's blown beyond some dude ranting about his ex girlfriend who made a mediocre game
Thats a rough but functional description of the situation, yes. By this point, most people don't really care about Zoe Quinn, she's only relevant largely because she was the crack in the dam that let all of this through and her association to Maya who is a psychopath and carries more high profile connections.

How one small thing has just sort of snowballed into... Everything. All of this. Zoe Quinn, Anita Sarkeesian, Phil Fish, a lot of other devs, both professional and indie, journalists on all sides... Why now? What do all these people have in common?
doubt the fish is going to get 20 years, i'd say 5 max probs with a decent lawyer
But first we have to see with the feds actually give a shit.
doubt the fish is going to get 20 years, i'd say 5 max probs with a decent lawyer
That's assuming he doesn't get booked for contempt of court at his trial for telling the judge to choke on his dick
