A machine gun landed inside what’s supposed to be a secure closet in JFK Airport, authorities said Thursday.
An official said the gun is “an antique” Cobray M11 9mm, and cops are “not even slightly” concerned that the weapon is part of a plot, ABC News reported.

Cal. 6mm BB
lmao
you know I'm all for freedom of the press and whatnot
but seriously, I'm starting to think that news sources print false information on purpose and I KNOW that they word their articles specifically to cause commotion in the population
all it is now is fear-mongering and a way for them to get more money

Since the first newspaper was printed, it's been their goal to sell another. And the only way they will do that is with outlandish stories and over exaggerated reports.
The source says nothing about the gun being airsoft; it's only the image. I think the editor just searched "mac 10" on google images and took the best result, not realizing that it was an airsoft gun.
I bet if they knew it was an airsoft gun, they'd still use it as an excuse to ban airsofting.
How do you know they found an airsoft gun? Just because the picture they posted if of one, doesn't mean it's what they found.
Wait a second, the article states it was a real MAC, a Cobray M11.

GUN! IT'S TRYING TO KILL ME!
Wait a second, the article states it was a real MAC, a Cobray M11.
If this is the case it makes the article picture even more ridiculous, because it's clearly labeled as an airsoft gun AND is the wrong M-11 to boot!
Grade A Journalism & Research.

I should point out to both of you that this is the same "news source" that blamed the Navy Yard shooting on an AR-15.
Also, I hate to defend them, but their source does say that the police stated it was an actual M-11, so it could be that they just used a picture of an airsoft toy by mistake.

They said it was the "Grand Theft Auto AR-15"

That's more than 5.56mm that the military uses, that's .44mm more assault weapon!

This. OP did not think it through, they obviously punched "mac 10" into google and grabbed the first thing they saw.
A machine gun
It's a subcompact machine pistol, I hate it when news sources always get it wrong. It's almost as if quick research doesn't exist at all.

Well of course they do, it's not a conspiracy.
I can understand why they would mistake that image for a picture of an actual gun. It sure fuckin' looks like one to me, despite the "6m BB".
It's a subcompact machine pistol, I hate it when news sources always get it wrong. It's almost as if quick research doesn't exist at all.
there are two definitions of machine gun. as much as I hate that there's a legal definition, there is and the mac 11 falls under it
there are two definitions of machine gun. as much as I hate that there's a legal definition, there is and the mac 11 falls under it
So it's like the assault rifle/assault weapon debacle?
It's a subcompact machine pistol, I hate it when news sources always get it wrong. It's almost as if quick research doesn't exist at all.
The National Firearms Act specifies that any weapon capable of full-auto fire is termed a 'machine gun' and is a Class III firearm. It's a correct, if somewhat misleading label. Unlike an 'assault weapon' there is a clear definition as to what constitutes a machine gun.
An airsoft gun got confused for the real thing because someone isn't obsessed with guns, what a shocker.

It says right in the thing that it shoots BBs
It says right in the thing that it shoots BBs
I see that now, even so people are overreacting because someone chose the wrong image.
Choosing the wrong image is much more serious than find a gun.

What does it actually say?

OP, why didn't you use the picture in the article?
op is even worse than the article author
true to sensationalist headlines tho
Oh hey they actually changed it to the right non-airsoft M-11, only took them 15 hours of staring at INGRAM M11 CAL. 6MM BB
It says right in the thing that it shoots BBs
In comparatively small letters upon an otherwise pretty fucking convincing replica.
The picture used in the article is a REAL M11. I've handled one before, so I have no idea why anyone thinks that is an airsoft.
[editline]27th September 2013[/editline]
It should be noted that M11's are SEMI AUTO unless illegally converted. I have never need a full auto M11. I've only seen one auto M10, and it was an illegal one.
In comparatively small letters upon an otherwise pretty fucking convincing replica.
The repelca SAYS M11 but it's shape is based on a M10. The M11's use a closed bolt firing system, where the M10's are open bolt. That is why they M10 is shoter, since they don't have an internal hammer.

It comes in 9mm .45 .30 and possible .22

The image he used was in the article until they realized their mistake and changed it.
