can we just not reboot things

I agree, is there any reason to return to this show? What's the point?
I mean, with things like Superhero movies (which I'm not a fan of), at least there's people trying to make it gritty or otherwise make it their own.
However, this doesn't seem like there would be a twist. It would literally just be revisiting the show, except with different actors (defeating the point) and modernized humor (which will by no means match). It's a cash-grab for nostalgia and will set a bar it can never reach.
I watched the original series 3 or 4 times, and I could do it for the 5th and 6th no problem. This is one of the shows that defines the 90s and many people's childhoods, you simply can't reboot that.
That's also a good point you stumbled on: who is this being rebooted for? Because if it's for people who have watched the original, are they going to want to watch a Fresh Prince that doesn't star a young Will Smith or Alfonso Ribero? If it's for teens and young adults now, how is it going to appeal to them? Is it simply using the name as a means to siphon views? How will it stay true to the original and be accessible in the year 2015?
I just rewatched the entire series and I don't think this is a good idea.
For one, it was really preachy and they tried to put some moral lesson in almost every episode, and 90% of the time it just felt really cheap and TV-like. There were a few that did work, like the one with Will's father for example.
Also, no Uncle Phil this time around, who was the best character on the show.
i have no optimism for this

some optimism if will smith at least plays will smith
I read an idea for this where they do the same thing, but reversed. Essentially a snobby rich kid is sent to Philly to get street smart. Could be interesting if they go that route.
I once had an idea for a drama series set in an urban, crime environment.
Basically the idea is that, everyone dies tragically and/or dramatically in every scene. But the show is still your standard 42-minutes, so by roughly 10 minutes into each episode you are left with nothing but the cameras cycling between the various scenes of dead bodies laying on the ground with some ambient noise.
