He'd be killed in an instant. He doesn't realize Call of Duty doesn't constitute as war experience.
are you dumb? this guy has over 38 years of military experience he has served in the gulf, iraq, and afghanistan war
This is probably just a way of that person coping. I know we heard a story about USAF personnel who fly and shoot in C-130s treat it like a game. It's how they cope. They make it like a video came like COD4, and they don't get that stress put upon them. I'm sure that's just what this commander is doing.. straight up coping.
Watch Restrepo. You'll see that soldiers love the the rush when being shot at, find it fun to shoot guns, and find it fun to shoot at enemies. They do this to cope. Soldiers will break down if they don't have this mentality.

You'll think you're invincible and come out of cover to kill a wave of enemies because you think it'll be easy to win, only to get instantly shot in the head by a sniper, for example. War is a cruel thing, and justly so.
thanks for the heads up sun tzu
Sounds like a good soldier. (Consider he doesn't go apeshit and kill for no good reason)
That sentence was so inhumane I don't even.
You know whats humane? Despite what the media would have you believe, there is no humanity in war. This is a guerrilla war in the middle of the Afghan desert, not a popsicle party at girl scout camp.

Both sides should be able to violate human rights as much as they please. Perfectly fine for Americans to bomb villages full of civilians, perfectly fine for insurgents to gun down civilians. [/sarcasm]
that guy was pretty young at the time, young people aren't known as particularly smart people.
If you are referring to Mattis, you are mistaken. It explicitly states that he was overheard making these remarks in 2005, while he has been serving in the US Army since 1972. He was not young, and one's ideological viewpoints are pretty much cemented post-35 years old.
the guys they're fighting are so inhumane to others i don't even
Why do you people always go off on the notion that if someone is doing it it's ok to do the same to them or others. Jesus fucking christ, have a heart. Two wrongs don't make a right.
Why do you people always go off on the notion that if someone is doing it it's ok to do the same to them or others. Jesus fucking christ, have a heart. Two wrongs don't make a right.
because most FPers have cavemen mentalities
:patriot: [editline]08:45PM[/editline] America fuck yeah
Civilians smack their wives to ya know, commander :downs: You're there to work not enjoy it. You can have your personal reasons for joining but when you're in the shit you shouldn't be thinking about how fun it is to paint some targets up.
ITT: The Media and Facepunch take things too seriously.
a high ranking military official just said that killing people fun this is not serious how?
So yes, I honestly think that westernizing the middle east is the best idea since sliced bread.
Yes, it is the white man's burden to uplift these savages.
A commander with balls is a good commander He only means those fighting us, not just civilians shopping at a market anyway
lol, he's a war hungry commander, not some hardened commander making sense. he ENJOYS war [editline]05:06AM[/editline]
that guy was pretty young at the time, young people aren't known as particularly smart people.
The guy is about 50/60 years old... wtf
Oh McCrystal, you so crazy. He reminds me of Patton.

Okay lets get this shit straight. From my experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan, we are some pretty sick motherfuckers.
ITT: FP'ers don't seem to realize that majority of people who sign up for Infantry/other Combat MOSs, do it because they want the adventure and thrill, not because they "want to serve their country". Why else would you join up for a job that is 99% putting you outside of your comfort zone, is physically demanding and dangerous as fuck? Yeah war may be hell, but it's probably not so hellish when you're dominating the fight.

They are criminals and the military is their way out etc'
This just in, game developers all over the world start to go into overdrive on VR software to contain people's violent fetishes.
Or because: 1. They failed at school/uni/college 2. Also, just because they failed school/uni/college doesn't meant they can't take up non-combat MOSs.
This article was a hellva hoot.
If that sick fuck wants to talk about honor then he should take a sword and join the battlefield... Fuckin dishonorable wars nowadays.
Watch Restrepo. You'll see that soldiers love the the rush when being shot at, find it fun to shoot guns, and find it fun to shoot at enemies. They do this to cope. [editline]01:45PM[/editline]
Oh McCrystal, you so crazy. He reminds me of Patton.
It's not him in the interview.
Morality is a funny thing. See, what you hold to be "morally acceptable" could be radically different from person to person. Implementing the argument that something is "morally wrong" leads to things like the ban on gay marriage or marijuana. [editline]04:32PM[/editline] It's only natural for animals to kill.
Relative morality (the morality you are describing) is fallible. I could tell you to write me an essay and then rate it F, because in my opinion because I don't like it. Society has rules that are set in stone and passed down such as "Don't murder or rape" but post that western society is a hodgepodge of various ethical theories. Those who oppose Gay marriage and Marijuana legalisation usually use Absolutist theories and thus oppose them. People are free to use other theories and they should be. To have one ethical code would be boring. [editline]02:32PM[/editline]
If that sick fuck wants to talk about honor then he should take a sword and join the battlefield... Fuckin dishonorable wars nowadays.
What are you on about, just because they used swords earlier war was never more honourable. I'm afraid you're looking at the middle ages with rose tinted glasses.

You're all a bunch of pussy's, its just words. Now you got a bunch of idiots in here that want to generalize the entire Armed Forces because of one persons words. Get real will you guys. It's called a coping mechanism too, people say shit they don't necessarily mean or would normally say to help them with the situation at hand. Being at war will take a toll on you no matter what, you all think this is a video game in the good guy wins and only the bad guys lose. Doesn't work that way. Get. Real.
