Holy shit I remember when he was diagnosed with the cancer last year. The doctors said it was only a small growth and was caught very early with no symptoms, what the fuck?
Never underestimate cancer I guess. Rest in peace man.
I wonder who will take his place.
At least he lived to see Smash 4
Good Bey sweet prince
;-;
Fuck. This just came completely out of the blue.
We've lost some great people this year, but I would've never expected him to be one of them.
Didn't agree with everything Iwata did, but he was someone that actually loved working with video games, RIP.
That's what hurts the most. The man's final days was seeing the entire industry turn against his company, calling the Wii U a failure and him a relic that needs to leave, and I've even seen people celebrating that we can go back to the "non-Wii days." It's not fair that that's the end he gets with the legacy he built up.
Thank you for everything, Iwata-sama.
At least this year's Nintendo E3 thing was really well received. Don't think I know anyone who really had any issues with it. So, he didn't leave with a completely dim view hopefully.

well this happened
fuck me i didn't expect to see this today
i feel super bad now, the last media press coverage he ever got to see was people complaining about how bad the e3 direct was..
i don't think we ever showed our appreciation that well.

The direct conference was nice, what the hell was there to complain about?
It was mostly spin off games, amiibo games, and stuff we already knew about.
Even though i'm a mostly PC gamer, this news is still kinda shocking; even for a man this genuine about the work he does to keep the masses entertained.
Iwata is surely someone, even if you never even played a Nintendo console before who will truly be missed. :-(
Jesus, this is really sad.
what in the absolute christ
My heart skipped a beat when I've read headline. I've never been a big fan of Nintendo but still this makes me very, very sad. Today we lost one of greatest (if not the greatest) CEO's in video game industry.
rest in peace
He can't die, he's immortal.
Rest in peace, one of the best programmers in the world.

No, that's the thing. A lot of people despised it. Coming off their incredible conference last year and everyone else's great conferences the day prior, a lot of people were expecting Nintendo to deliver something big. When they didn't, well...
The last month hasn't been kind for Nintendo's public image, and it's been because of that conference. And this is how we said goodbye to Iwata, with the whole industry booing and sneering at him. It isn't what he deserved. He should've left to a standing ovation...
Remember that hes the one responsible for compressing the code to fit both regions in Pokemon Gold and Silver
Shit, i feel really bad about this.
When I knew he programmed fucking Balloon Fight alone (one of my favourite games) I said "Holy shit he is awesome! I want to be a programmer like him".

He also saved Earthbound (which was nearly cancelled) by taking the programming from being unmanageable and making it into a scripting language.
EDIT: Late
who the hell is gonna replace the president of nintendo?
it can't be reggie, he runs america and would probably ruin the japan market since he doesnt know alot about it right?
it can't be miyamoto either, isnt he planning to retire soon?
who is gonna manage the joint?
the creator of earthbound, shigesato itoi, posted this the night iwata died: https://twitter.com/itoi_shigesato/status/619659284435959808

I wonder what's going to happen to this: http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/

Damn shame then, if that's the case. Man deserved better.
Iwata passing away at 55 is incredibly saddening. especially when the average lifespan in Japan is 84.
[editline]13th July 2015[/editline]
rest in peace.
Oh man, just heard it from a couple of my friends. RIP Mr. Iwata-san!
Only 55 years old? Jeez, why do all the good people die so young.
"Please understand." ;_;7
He was the very embodiment of climbing the corporate ladder. Thanks for the memories Iwata
