God fucking dammit, this is the worst news ever. What a miserable day. Rest in piece Iwata, you will be sorely missed.

I read the news over an hour ago, and I still can't stop crying. He left such in impact.. Not only on the company, but so many people he worked with and met. The world really lost a good man.

I'm so sad right now. This is far more of a blow to gaming and Nintendo than I think people realize.
Something inside me just... broke. RIP Iwata.
LOTS of big profile game devs are giving out their condolences. Sweet god, it's been a while since I've felt so down...... RIP
RIP Satoru. At least he passed away doing what he loved.

Ow, what a downer to come home to. :c RIP you magnificent man, you've given us so much happiness and joy.
I've never been the largest Nintendo fan, but I always enjoyed him in Nintendo Direct.
I need to get this off my chest. A lot of people are concerned about where Nintendo heads after this: who's taking charge next, what the plans are, stuff like that. Many are concerned that with Iwata out of the picture, the company will be run into the ground by shareholders that sensed the power vacuum as an opportunity to take the reins and do a complete 180° on the company's direction, like going full-mobile or whatever. Others that I've seen from "across the trench" are cheering that this now means Nintendo "can stop sucking and make real systems again." Whatever the case, this has been a hard month for Nintendo fans ever since E3 and this was just the final punch that knocked us down to the mat for the time being. Wanna lie there for a second, cry a little if we need to... Fine. But there's one phrase that's just been subconsciously repeating in my head, over and over: We do not give in. Whatever happens, now that there's an absence of leadership for the time being, I hope we can make sure Nintendo stays Nintendo. If a shareholder comes in and tries to Zynga up the place, we don't give in. All the calls for Nintendo to go third-party getting louder than ever, we don't give in. Anyone trying to erase everything that happened with their Gen7-8 era, and tear down Nintendo's efforts to bring real gaming to a wider audience to satiate the yells of a vocal minority that's already served in so many other places? No, we don't give in. This may sound melodramatic, but they're the genuine thoughts going through my head at the moment. Some may say with Iwata gone, the best times of Nintendo are behind us, but that doesn't have to be the case. Going forward, I want Nintendo to rise even higher than it did in Iwata's time. Not to spite Iwata - to overshadow him, undo what he did, or prove someone else can do better - but as an effort made in his memory. As a single player, I wish there was more I could do. I hope the fanbase in general can make its voices heard and help keep what makes Nintendo great. I'd wish for luck... But let's leave luck to heaven.
I wonder if they did the puppet thing at E3 so people wouldn't see him looking sick
[T]http://i.imgur.com/pixiFbg.png[/T]
I feel dumb for thinking this was real.
I wonder if they did the puppet thing at E3 so people wouldn't see him looking sick
His final appearance in the April 1st Direct did have him looking very thin and frail. A number of people commented on it at the time, as well as the photos in the final few Iwata Asks that went up. In all his public appearances, you could definitely see his health was failing near the end.
At least he got to see Splatoon. To him, Splatoon was a tremendous success because of all the new and young folks that worked on it; he was happy that the newer generation could make games that were up to par with Nintendo standards because that meant that Nintendo's legacy could live on.
