This thread is almost unanimously full of love for the great developer, business manager, and damn fine man the world has lost.
Just got home from work. Rest in piece Satoru Iwata. Going to miss seeing the silly things you did with reggie during E3.

It's hard to find anyone these days who didn't grow up without a presence of some kind from Nintendo. I grew up playing super nintendo and n64 with all my friends, they're some of the most meaningful times I can remember and I'm forever grateful. So rest in peace Satoru Iwata, you've earned it for helping shape not only the childhoods, but the entire lives of the people who were your fans and who cared for you. Rest in Peace, Iwata. You deserved to live far longer than this. I feel very cold and heartbroken. I didn't think I'd have to see a news headline like this for a long time..

-fuck I got ninja'd-
Wow nearly all of the Splatoon Miiverse posts are about Mr. Iwata. This makes me so sad.
This is so sad. He was such a great man, programmer, businessman and gamer. Among many other awesome things he did, he was able to rewrite and compact Pokémon G/S's code so much that they were able to include the whole Kanto region. And he did it all by himself.
With this news, I just can't bring my self to play any of the earth bound games as their music is emotionally fitting to his passing. I can't listen without crying and almost breaking down. Sayonara Mr Iwata. Through your works, you have touched millions.

Rest in peace, Iwata-san. You were a great man and a great gamer, someone who actually worked in gaming industry not for money, but for bringing fun and joy to every gamer on Earth. Something that is rare these days.
At least he got to see Splatoon. To him, Splatoon was a tremendous success because of all the new and young folks that worked on it; he was happy that the newer generation could make games that were up to par with Nintendo standards because that meant that Nintendo's legacy could live on.
No, You're crying. Not me....
Rest in peace, you were a intellectual and honorable man.
Just gonna copy/paste what I posted to tumblr:
I’m absolutely shattered at the death of Satoru Iwata, a true legend of the video game industry. The saddest thing of all is that at 55 he still had so much to offer. He wasn’t done. While we cherish all the happy memories he gave us and will be forever grateful for his life’s work, the world has been robbed of a truly brilliant man.
Well this shit sucks, he will be dearly missed by everyone
Pretty shocked when I heard about it, 55 was way too young. My sympathies go out to his family and Nintendo.
S-stop posting. you guys are making me sad.. i-i'm not crying. you guys are harshing my happy mood. Fucking.. stupid old man.. having to die so suddenly.. and leave us without him Fucking god..
He's with the gods of videogame legends now
He's with the gods of videogame legends now
Arguably the most significant man at Nintendo since Gunpei Yokoi. I'd rank him alongside Shigeru Miyamoto in terms of influence.
Arguably the most significant man at Nintendo since Gunpei Yokoi. I'd rank him alongside Shigeru Miyamoto in terms of influence.
It's going to hit me just as hard if not harder when Miyamoto goes.
When someone I deeply respected or loved dies, I get this intense feeling of denial. I say to myself "maybe it's a one big hoax. Tomorrow we'll hear about how people were just incredibly misinformed and he's still alive." I don't feel this for many people, but I'm feeling this now.
It's really something to see so many people pay their respects. The online community can be a harsh place, especially when it concerns Nintendo, but anyone can tell how much he loved what he did; it's sad that such a positive force in the industry is gone.
This one is also depressing:
That post hit me hard. It makes so much sense and breaks my heart that I was mocking the puppets before. RIP a legend.
