There's 'tough love', as in saying
"no johnny you can't have another cigarette, you're five years old for fuck sake"
and what is happening in this case.

Immensely different.
This thread proves that Facepunch are full of sensitive, caring people who are full of respect.

btw that was sarcasm
There goes my faith in humanity. I really cannot stand people who do things to their children. It disgusts me that they can do something to someone so innocent and defenseless. Even if these people get a lifetime of prison, their punishment is nothing compared to what they did to Ame.
Last time I was at a Saturday market, some lady hit her kid across the head with a plastic cup, and the kid was crying quite a bit, and I was about to go over and tell her off, but someone beat me too it, and they yelled at her "What are you doing, thats fucking child abuse" and the woman replied with "Its not abuse, thats MY kid". Closest I've ever been to a "blood boiling" sensation.

How did investigators find out about the popsicle bit? Neighbor testimonies?
They said they did it.
Well, on the up side, they locked away almost the entire family. An entire family that really, really doesn't need to be procreating or interacting with society in any way.
But after Deal's cousin Samantha Allen, 23, and her husband, John Allen, 23, admitted putting the child in the trunk and padlocking it, authorities charged the couple with first degree murder.
John Allen was allegedly angry with Deal because she had taken a popsicle from the freezer,
....
The victim's aunt, Cynthia Stoltzmann, 44, and grandmother, Judith Deal, 62, were charged with child abuse and kidnapping after reportedly admitting to locking the child in the box on previous occasions.
Witnesses told investigators the child was regularly punished by being locked in the trunk. They also saw the caregivers force Deal to eat dog feces as punishment, crush cans barefoot and exercise outdoors in "extreme measures," according to ABC15.
"extreme" is a little bit of an understatement here, just a little.
Man this is just sad. Let us have a pun less silence out of respect.
respect? Internet? good luck with that.
Can someone remind me of the reasons death penalty was removed already? Fuck sake it's like everything gets more fucked up each days.
I disagree with the death penatly as there has more than likely innocent men and women exectuted many times.
Time to get my beating stick out for these motherfuckers, Now this is the bad parenting story of the week. For several weeks actually.
Pretty sad....but I wonder what would of happened if she took an ice cream sandwich...
Whenever someone makes a joke about a news story about an animal being tortured they justify it with, "PEOPLE MAKE JOKES WHENEVER IT'S A THREAD ABOUT SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAPPENING TO A PERSON BUT WHEN IT'S AN ANIMAL THEY FORM A LYNCH MOB," and I'd actually try to argue that no one on FP makes jokes about people being tortured or murdered. I don't know what I was thinking.
Like somebody once said, "Tu peux rire sur n'importe quoi mais pas avec n'importe qui.", which is french and roughly translates to:
"You can joke about everything but not with everyone."
The guy who said it was Pierre Desproges.

Superb community reaction too. what the fuck man. If i saw someone force feeding their child feces i'd call the cops.
i cringe at the concept of "tough love"
Uh tough love is telling a person why they fucked up or why they need help as straightforward as possible even if it hurts their feelings. Tough love is stopping a kid from doing something they love even if they love it because it's harming them in the long term (like deleting a WoW account for someone playing all day every day) even if in the short term they hate their parents.
This is torture. Huge difference.
[editline]30th July 2011[/editline]
I can tolerate people who make jokes about people dying or getting hurt in funny ways or as a result of their own stupidity but this just crosses the line people.
This is a fucking horror story of child abuse. Hell I wouldn't call it child abuse but straight up torture.

And they didn't think to report it? What the fuck
Deal, who weighed just 59 pounds and was discovered in soiled clothing, died in a box that measured less than 3 feet long, 14 inches wide and one foot tall, according to The New York Daily News.
The bystander effect is a terrible thing.
Saw this on the news earlier today, good god I just wanted to kill these fucking people over this, such sick motherfuckers in this damn world.
"Look at those fucked up people, I want to horribly mutilate and kill them! Yea!"
That's disgusting. They should get they chair, they obviously don't deserve to live.
Lol are these guys poor or something I mean those should not cost more than 8$.
And plus I can take Ice cream when ever the hell I want out of my parents fridge these days and they don't give a crap. We might not be hearing the whole thing.

You would be suprised. Different people have different reactions to the same thing.
Lol are these guys poor or something I mean those should not cost more than 8$.
are you suggesting a poor person for whom an $8 box of popsicles is a more special thing is more likely to abuse a child and lock her in a trunk to die
And plus I can take Ice cream when ever the hell I want out of my parents fridge these days and they don't give a crap.
okay
nobody cares how much ice cream you can eat from your parents' FREEZER
We might not be hearing the whole thing.
you're right the child was probably a monster who lit cats on fire
I don't really see why people get so buthurt over the puns, if there's something as depressing as this might as well get a laugh or two rather than being sad and slowly losing faith in humanity.
Funny?
Yeah, I know who is going to hell now.
R.I.P
I bet she would have KILLED for a Popsicle in there.
But in all seriousness that's fucked up. Fucking Arizona.
Exercising outside? What the fuck? When is exercising outside considered a form of child abuse?
In Arizona.
From my experiences, the main difference between extensive outside work during an average Arizona day and extensive outside work on the surface of the sun is that the sun does not have Joshua trees.
Seriously? WTF is wrong with people these days.
I can understand them getting upset by what she did....but this....this is just horrible. Why not just no TV for a few days? It really bothers me how many news stories these days involves parents/legal guardians and harming their child.
