Hurt Locker producer to sue anyone who pirated the Hurt Locker
Piracy isn't stealing. It's piracy.
Piracy is also a very very sexy name for anything really, just rolls off the tongue, pie-rah-see.
And is it illegal if i bought a copy of the movie and then somehow lost the disk, then downloaded it off the internet?
good thing I didn't download this one
Overrated movie, producer gets butthurt, makes his butthurt obvious by telling people basically "STOP DOWNLOADING MY MOVIE BUY IT GIVE ME AT LEAST FIVE BUCKS SO I CAN DIE WITH SOME DIGNITY :saddowns:"
And the irony is that piracy helps spread knowledge of indie films, like The Hurt Locker
The difference between him and his example is this:
He made a movie and it cost him X amount of money to produce it and distribute it. He made enough money to cover those expenses and make a profit on the movie. Someone bought the movie, and copied it to distribute around the internet. They make no money, and simply create more copies of the movie. Many people enjoy the movie, and some actually go buy a real copy.
You have a couch. You bought it from a store for X amount of money and it's sitting in your house. You make no money on the couch sitting in your house. If a thief breaks in and takes your couch, you have lost a couch and received no payment, and you have to buy a new couch to continue your feng shui existence. The couch cannot be copied, only the thief enjoys your couch.
In other words, he doesn't lose money, he simply doesn't receive any for the pirated movies. You lose money replacing the couch.
Q.E.D. He is the idiot here. Fuck him.
Inglourious Basterds was a better film.
Yay for flooding the court system!
say somebody were to download using utorrent
is he trying to sue them as well
?
Weird, where did all the Hurt Locker haters come from, and where had they been around Oscar time?
It's not like he's losing money... If I made a film I would mind if everyone was pirating it....but If I had a portion of people buying it or seeing it in theaters, and a portion that were pirating it... I wouldn't care so much because people are enjoying my movie, and I'm still making money. Stopping them from pirating isn't going to make them go see the movie.
He needs to calm down. The guy was just making a comment, not condoning piracy.
Fun Fact: The Cinema Industry makes more money out of selling food stuffs than actual movies.
Any time I go to a theatre I always pirate in some outside food by hiding it in my jacket.
Any time I go to a theatre I always pirate in some outside food by hiding it in my jacket.
i do the same. Usually some chips and cans of Nestea. Everything at the theater is too expensive.
You are an asshole.
Okay, now that's out of the way, let's go into the reasons why you are an asshole:
You replied to an extremely polite email calling you out on doing something patently ridiculous (suing tens of thousands of people for downloading The Hurt Locker) by being a sarcastic fuckwad and saying that maybe you should leave your door open all the time and send him your bank account info. Do you completely fail at logic or something? Without illegal downloads, very few people would have even SEEN your fucking oscar-bait because of the limited release it got. Suing the people who made your movie popular doesn't make you morally upright, it makes you a goddamned dick.
Now, before you send me that reply again, keep in mind: I understand the sentiment behind it. The Hurt Locker was a fine film, and you deserve money for it. However, the fact that you deserve money is not a license to go around screwing people out of theirs because they decided to watch a movie that, for most of its theatrical run, was playing in about 10 theaters nationwide.
~ *redacted*
P.S. Fuck you.
My email to him.
Your e-mail is ridiculous. Bashing wrong doesn't make you right.
or uh, two wrongs don't make a right! :downs:
Your e-mail is ridiculous. Bashing wrong doesn't make you right.
Whether or not I'm right or wrong isn't even the issue, he's being a dick and he deserves to be called on it.
nicolas@voltagepictures.com
Here's his email.
Him being a dick is justified to some extent. He may have crossed it but that's still no reason to go and send him an e-mail like that.
What do you expect to come out of this?
I had a lot of respect for those who created such a good dramatic modern day war film, but this guy really makes me think twice about seeing any other films from this company.
Honestly I wasn't aware there was an issue from the guys of the Hurt Locker over this. When they invite attention to it by making stupid responses like that, it'll just encourage more people to do it for kicks.
omg u better not cross this dude!! he means serious!!!!!!!!
While it's not right to pirate something, the people who do would probably not have paid to see if it they couldn't pirate it. No money is lost because none would have changed hands had they not been able to pirate it. Lots of people can't afford to spend £5-7 on every movie they want to see, more if they want it on DVD.
This has always been my thought. I'm not going to buy a movie and maybe not like it. I'll see on TV first or something or if I already know I like it I'll buy it. My money is like a reward for a good job. If a movie isn't good there's no fucking why I'm going to give them my money. They can suck a dick if they make a shitty movie and then cry because it gets pirated.
What a cunt.
I was thinking of renting it today but that idea is now long gone.
I would gladly open my house if you could duplicate everything material I own without any damage to my own goods.
What a dipshit. I didn't even know about Hurt Locker until I saw it on TPB. Watched it a bought myself the DVD for the box. Now I feel bad for buying it.
Guys, just because this guy's a dick, it doesn't mean Hurt Locker's any less of a movie you should see.
Guys, just because this guy's a dick, it doesn't mean Hurt Locker's any less of a movie you should see.
Yeah, see, not buy. Not now.
Well, here's the thing, if you weren't going to buy their shitty movie in the first place, who gives a shit if you download it because either way they wouldn't have made any money off of you and they wouldn't lose any either.
I feel like sending him an e-mail now :v:
I think it is perfectly reasonable to sue against people who steal your intellectual property, BUT I find it absurd that when they do sue they make it so that you lose so much money it becomes cruel. Remember the woman who downloaded an album and got charged nearly a million USD? I think the fine should be more than the cost of the movie as a punishment, but nothing more than a few hundred dollars.
Why should it be more? Just have them pay a fine for the movie's worth at the time and that's that.
Nothing more fucking complicated than that, you have to punish but you have to be fair.
Why so mad over this? It will be free to watch on TV in a few years anyway.
