Australia boils as extreme heat hits -- 47°C in places.

Heat is uncomfortable, cold is hell.
47°C is pushing it, but I'd much rather have 20°C+ all year than just that in the summer (June-August) and below 10°C for the rest of the year.
I'd like to be able to go for a swim without having to mentally prepare myself due to how cold it is, even in the summer. I was in Greece a couple of years ago and it was +30°C every day, and I loved it.
I'd have -30°C over 47°C anytime. Fuck the heat, there's god damn nothing you can do about it aside from running naked outside pouring water all over your body.
Personally, it feels like it's easier to avoid the cold than the heat. I'd rather be in a frigid area than super fucking hot. But I live in south florida and it's been about 75-80f the last month or so through christmas.

I remember when I was in middle school it got up to like 50 degrees and school got cancelled for the rest of the day.

I live in Victoria, yesterday's heat was NOT fun but my budgies were fine and the power didn't shit itself like a few years back when it was this fucking hot. Lucky I got out of SA last week though couse holy shit son 45 C is not fun.
Not too bad here on the sunshine coast today... At about 7am I went outside during a break in the clouds and while it was still kinda cool, the open sun on my skin felt like just walking into a wall of fire... Any exposed and unprotected skin just roasts, UV must be through the roof. Clouds have come back though and it's nice and cool again.
I know it hit 51 C in saudi arabia once when i lived there
I don't get why people always make a fuss about temperatures like 47ºC, where I live we have 3 months of temperatures between 45ºC-50ºC every summer for around 3 months (we even have a saying that we have "9 months of winter and 3 months of hell") with the nights being 30ºC and you don't see it making the news, and I live in Portugal. I always thought temperatures like these were common in places like Australia. (I do understand it's dangerous and worth making a fuss over, what I mean is I don't get why it's such big news)
Our averages aren't as high as some of the towns in Portugal - that said, these high temperatures are affecting the population centres of Australia, so a 44c day for a city of a few million people lands up being quite a big deal. Quite different to if a town of 4,000 people get a 44c day.
Also, bushfires.

And yet, they get higher averages. Just because it wasn't recorded by Portugal's meteorological bureau, and verified, doesn't mean that DeanWinchester is wrong.
A thermometer at my house was saying the temperature was 45c yesterday, even though the forecast was 41 and the max was 41.
And after looking at the weather forecast, I'm suddenly very glad I live in Melbourne. It's only 29 degrees Celsius here. Can't help but feel bad for the other cities though.
Said weather forecast says Melbourne will reach 39 degrees on Monday. Welp, there's something to look forward to.

Your thermometer probably isn't very accurate, explaining the discrepancy. Thermometers used by weather bureaus are very sensitive pieces of equipment

No shit sherlock, but because they're so sensitive, they're expensive too, which means they don't put them in all locations.
The temperature around my house was around 45c yesterday - multiple thermometers verified this fact - doesn't mean BOM or I am wrong.
Let me add that this is the air temperature too.

Wouldn't a middle school be at least as well cooled as an average home?

I'm crying about it ;~;
I can't handle any temperature above about 30C and even that's pushing it. I would undoubtedly die there. Lucky we sent the convicts first.
