They had the sense to leave
you guys are crying because you get a couple of days heat.. fucking hell WA has had a full week of a heatwave and were not crying about it.
The only reason there are people in WA is so that they can get us more minerals. Get back in the mine.

I don't understand your point? Lisbone doesn't get as hot as other parts of Portugal. For instance, here's the average temperature data for Amareleja in Portugal.
34c high average is higher than any capital city in Australia - so yes, it is entirely possible for someone to get a stupidly hot day in Portugal, and yes, it's possible for someone to experience a temperature higher than the official high.
Yeah but the same damn reason tells you not to go into a thread about hotness in Australia and post stuff along the lines of "omg dudes it's much hotter here stop complaining"
My town is hotter than your town.
Hope all you aussies are doing okay, especially those with pets.
Stay safe n' cool, everybody.
I just looked it up. The highest temperature ever recorded in Portugal is 47.4 C.

What I'm saying is you're full of shit
Because they record temperatures everywhere, right?
I'm pretty sure a mercury thermometer is accurate enough to not fail at telling me it was 50ºC (it was on the limit too, I'm pretty sure they break if they go any higher) where I was on that particular day, it was only one day sure but still it got there, mostly it's 45-47 yeah but still, you're not in your own right to tell me when I'm full of shit (or I guess you are, because I don't have proof) just because the places where they set up thermometers didn't pick it up.

Portugal:
Area of 92,340 km²
32°N - 37°N [5°];
7°W - 9°W [2°]
Australia
Area of 7,618,000 km²
12°S - 45°S [33°];
113°E - 155°E [22°]
You are trying to compare the average temperature of a very small country [comparably] in a localized climate, with the average temperature of an entire continent that goes from the tropics and borders on the Antarctic..
This is Australia's highest official recorded temperature:
50.7 degrees Celsius @ Oodnadatta, South Australia [2 January 1960].

Also, please use government websites. :)

What difference does it make? I was comparing the average high temperatures - not climates. Someone said that it can get hot in Portugal, and download, as always, made a stupid uninformed opinion, and I was responding to that.

Why? I don't understand Portuguese, and I doubt you do either. There are plenty of sources that suggest what I've said.
Stupid and uninformed because I proved them wrong? Keep dreaming
You proved what wrong now? Apparently because you saw the max recorded temperature by the weather bureau, you proved it wrong... lol, stupid and uninformed, indeed.

When you have a larger range of data, the mean is going to be skewed.
Given that our temperatures ranges from (almost) equatorial/tropical to polar, our average national temperature is going to be more skewed than a country that is smaller than the size of any of our states, and is just larger than the Australian Capital Territory.
Different climates will give different average temperatures, and different average rainfalls.. <-- Pretty fucking obvious.
Combine various temperatures from a variety of climates, with an overall average, and you get results that could be leagues away from individual data points.

Why? The data would be more reliable.
When you have a larger range of data, the mean is going to be skewed.
I was comparing it to the average temperature over the year from different areas in Australia - I was not comparing Australia's average temperature - if you thought that was the case, it was an issue with communication and interpretation.
Quite clearly Australia contains many different climates due to it's size, but that was never part of the discussion really.
34c high average is higher than any capital city in Australia - so yes, it is entirely possible for someone to get a stupidly hot day in Portugal, and yes, it's possible for someone to experience a temperature higher than the official high.
Even Alice Springs and Katherine do not have a higher average temperature during Summer than Amareleja in Portugal.

I don't disagree, I do however wish you good luck finding such data from the Government meteorological service - but regardless, I don't see many reasons to suggest the provided data should be considered invalid.
Just don't come into a thread saying "omg guys it's much hotter here get used to it", that was the entire point.
Now lets stop argueing like fact-obsessed idiots.
Go away. You clearly can't read.
