Holding the majority of the market and selling 100 million licenses of their new OS is so unprofitable oh shit
Compared to their xbox profits, it kinda is.
PC is already dominated by steam and whatnot, I doubt ms wants to go into this space.
i dunno if there were demos for ps4s but if there were I bet they were running on pcs as well

[Update: PS4 developers state that their games were running on actual PS4 dev kits, not high-end PCs]
Pay no attention to that PC behind the curtain.
Wait, Microsoft was using Windows 7 over Windows 8? I think there is a whole side of the story a majority of us missed...
Current driver support is slightly better for windows 7 - it being a more mature system and all. Compared to relatively new stuff for 8.
also imho this isn't running on an emulator. They probably have the xboxone version of directX compiled for windows as well as well a lot of the other libraries and baked in. So the stuff running there is actually probably running native.

Far as I can tell the PS4s were using actual hardware mounted in PC cases.
P.S. It is not true as the article says that "all E3 demos run on hi-end PCs". The Witness was running on PS4 dev hardware, and it looked to me like all the other PS4 games were running on dev kits as well.

I'm seeing a lot of forum comments saying "it is no big deal, most E3 demos are on PCs". False. I wonder if this is "reputation management".

We worked very hard to get our game running on the actual PS4 hardware and operating system in time for the show. As did many other devs.

Yup, we were definitely on a dev kit. [For inFamous: Second Son]

All the indies I know were running on the PS4.

Within the first 10 minutes of the doors being opened at E3, a game had already crashed. That game was none other than the PS4 exclusive Knack. While being played at the Sony booth, the game crashed mid-game to reveal an interesting screen which you can see above.
AKA No. Every PS4 Game there ran on the PS4 Dev kit.

Really nice of Ricky Gervais to reboot it for you
Here's hoping that that 2tb leak will have the E3 emulator on it.
What leak?
Just because a development build of these demos run on this PC on a version of Windows 7 we know nothing about(what if core parts of the OS are modded to run these demos? ) doesn't mean it can well or at all on all the hardware sets pc gamers got.
are you serious
are you serious
I was mostly referring to Windows APIs that might be modified to be more similar to the console. Stuff like Direct3D and possibly other libraries. Of course I don't know for sure, but I don't see why that is not possible or horribly unreasonable.
Clearly since the demos were compiled for a PC with this spec, it must run on all PCs! It's not like the games thst actually support PC ports have driver or hardware comparability issues. Right? ....
Just because a development build of these demos run on this PC on a version of Windows 7 we know nothing about(what if core parts of the OS are modded to run these demos? ) doesn't mean it can well or at all on all the hardware sets pc gamers got.
Edit: BTW I'm not saying can't they port it. But they would have to make it work on tons of different hardware sets and support it. And they're pressured by MS to not port it since there's less money to be made.
I don't get why people think this. It really isn't that hard to optimize a PC title for hardware.
Development checklist
----------------
Optimize for Windows
Optimize for AMD
Optimize for Intel
Optimize for AMD Graphic Cards
Optimize for Nvidia Graphic Cards
Optimize for APU chipsets
Done.
When people have weird issues due to *insert hardware combination* they fix it and release a patch. You don't have to optimize for every hardware combination in the world like people are thinking.

It still doesn't make this a justifiable jab at Microsoft and Xbox One. This just means that the PS4 is further down the production line than the Xbone, which doesn't mean anything unless it affects either their release date or supply.
