I'm a 'medium well' kind of guy when it comes to beef. It's the nice spot between chewy and tough with just enough juice in the middle. If I'm a guest to anywhere it doesn't matter as long as it isn't profusely bleeding.
you may be using it as a figure of speech, I dunno, but steaks do not bleed. There is no blood in a steak (at least, there had better not be). The red juice is myoglobin, and it doesn't go anywhere even when you cook the steak longer. It simply turns brown because it oxidizes.
Why on earth would you make a reservation for a place you have to book a month in advance that costs somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 if you don't know if you like the food, and moreover why on earth would you show up late?
why wouldn't you turn up late? you payed $300 for it, they can wait
why wouldn't you turn up late?
because you're not a classless child.
Having paid $300 doesn't mean you're not jerking them around. People got shit they wanna do that isn't serve you. If you reserve a place at a certain time, be there on time. It's really not hard.
because you're not a classless child.
yeah but why not be one if it's more convenient for you in this case
yeah but why not be one if it's more convenient for you in this case
So any time it's convenient for me, I should be an asshole?
Well Lin and her four friends, all Chinese students, showed up 40 minutes late and never even apologized.
There's clearly a difference between "I need to do something! This amazing sushi will have to wait!" and then there's jerking people around because you're a douche.

An old chef's tip is that if you order a steak well done, the chef will try to give you an inferior cut of meat; they (correctly) assume that you don't have a good pallet because you can tolerate a well-done steak, and turning the thing into charcoal hides all the imperfections of the shittier meat. So you're paying more money for less if you order well done. I mean, please, at least order it medium well.
I don't recall anything like that back when I was working at Marriott, but then again I'm not in the States, and it might be lower end steakhouses doing that.
Also, Jiro's sushi is just pure food porn.

I take that over $300 french food anyday.

You worked at Marriott? What did you do there?

I was exaggerating a bit, even though I really didn't know either. Thanks for being informative about it.
You worked at Marriott? What did you do there?
Did ala-carte, Steaks, sandwiches, pastas, salads, weekly specials, burgers, appetizers, ice-creams, milkshake. Almost everything except for the local dishes, which was done by the asian side. Everything was fresh and housemade, the storage containers for food are washed every day. And then add that its located in the busiest place in the whole fucking country, right in the heart of tourist land, so its orders nonstop. even worse during the F1 season, did 200 covers for the night. Crazy, but exhilarating.

But its tourist pricing, so a steak is easily $60, which I think is ridiculous. Calamari cost 20 fucking dollars, and a simple asian style fried rice is $23 bucks, when you could walk 5 meters and get one for 3 bucks.
I thought Sushi being raw fish was a misconception born of the fact that it's usually served cold and there's a similar Japanese dish that is raw fish? Is that not the case?
Kinda. Sushi can be made with cooked or uncooked fish (or even meat sometimes). Sashimi is always raw but unlike sushi it's just the fish or meat, no rice, etc.
What's with all the steak snobs in this thread? People are allowed to enjoy things different from the norm. I'm willing to bet one of the largest reasons everyone touts medium rare as being the only acceptable option is because it's what they've been told their whole life.
I don't really like well done but medium rare isn't cooked enough for my tastes. Medium is my favourite because it keeps the juiciness of the steak but makes the most of the meat in my opinion, I don't really like biting into my steak to find that much mushy pink meat.
Good on you if you love medium rare though.

I wouldn't begrudge someone for liking their steak medium (I usually had it medium until semi-recently, when I moved down to medium rare) but there is a big gulf between that and well done.
My son was extremely pissed off.

Agreed, medium well is probably the line for me but if someone likes it well done, regardless of my thinking they're losing some of the taste I don't see why there are people here saying they shouldn't bother ordering it at all, I mean it's their food and their tongue :v:

Normally, I might agree with you. When your average well-done steak eater comes in, orders, and somehow enjoys their well-done steak, that's fine. No one should complain about it, but there are some justifications for steak snobbery, such as this situation:

Complaining about a well-done steak being something that characteristic of well-done steaks and not of less cooked steaks is an indicator you should probably not order it well-done. :v:
Damn, I'm sure I'd wanna watch the video but I'm actually in Turkey right now lol, no youtube for me.
Guessing it's someone complaining about their well done steak being overcooked or something?

Complaining about it being rubbery and tasteless or something to Gordon Ramsay and he basically responds with "and that's why you should never order a well-done steak."
They keep showing him a picture of the steak and asking whether he's happy having his restaurant serve that and basically he just says he would never serve that by choice, but if it's what the customer wants they'll cook a steak well done.
You diss the Jiro, you gon' git Slapped.
His documentary was fantastic, and it actually got me into sushi

Haha people complaining about their steak to Gordon Ramsay sounds a bit ridiculous.
Never really got into sushi, maybe I should give it another chance. It's never seemed appetising to me and the palette involved in Japanese food is pretty alien for me
