• EU accused of crippling future graphics cards

This is fucking stupid though, all this is gonna do is punish enthusiast users (who by the way represent probably less than 0.001% of all pc's worldwide) and the kinds of people who build super computers out of consumer GPU's. The only thing this is gonna accomplish is making low end super computers more expensive (which will suck for universities worldwide) and piss off the 0.001% of people who want the best in performance. All in the vain hopes of shaving a few watts off of said 0.001%.
Is there any logical reason to limit the bandwidth of a card? What could they have possibly been thinking
All EU laws on energy are absolute bullshit and sometimes hilarious theres one of these lamp switch things on the power cable for my router for it to comply with the shitty EU requirements for standby mode (which a router doesnt have)
The router could easily go into semi-standby mode when not in use, and "wake-up" when it's pinged. Sounds more like the router manufacturer took a easy shortcut.
Is there any logical reason to limit the bandwidth of a card? I find it funny that people, instead of posting counter arguments or such, simply settle for "lol the fox hueheuheuh" but I guess the saying of people bringing you down to their own level and beating you holds true.
My graphics card already goes into an extreme power saving mode when I'm not doing anything taxing with it (i.e. 90% of the time I'm using my PC), where it reduces the GPU clock to 50 MHz (from 900), the shader clock to 100Mhz (from 1800Mhz) and the memory clock to 67MHz (from 1050). Unless I'm in a game, performing some video operation (watching/rendering) or otherwise actually using my PC in some graphics focused way beyond browsing the internet, I'd say my graphics card is operating in an incredibly energy efficient mode - and the EU should realise this is standard for all modern graphics cards, and go fuck themselves.

That of course applies to the GPU as well, but it's limited.

Anyone is more than free to prove me wrong, and I will gladly dig up links in where free speech is impeded within the EU; Either by the EU itself or by nations within the EU; While the EU Supreme Court does nothing.

I think you have no idea how little freedom the actual people in the US have any how little control the EU has over it's members. They can basically put a monetary sanction on violaters and that's it, Germany's constitutional court ruled a EU regulation as a violation, so germany isn't following it. And such happens in many other countries if they can't agree with a regulation.

What always pisses me off so much is that they're always talking about how consumers must limit energy use. Fuck. That. Shit. Do something useful like investing in and actually using renewable energy.
Mid range is best range, high end cards are really not worth the money unless someone wants to brag about it, or is making a server farm to mine buttcoins or whatever because i doubt the average user really wants to spend an extra 10 bucks on the electricity bill just to get 5 more fps or 1000 more marks on Vantage Personally, i wouldn't mind paying the extra, but it's just a silly luxury, but i'd rather have a high performance graphics card that consumes little and performs more.. better. For instance I upgraded to an HD7850 from a HD4850, the performance per watt is phenomenal, for instance, if i get 100 fps in call of duty with the HD4850 at lets say 90% GPU usage, i'm getting about 40% of usage with the 7850 at the same framerate. What this means is that i'm actually saving money despite both cards having similar TDP, without the limit i get about just under 300 fps, give it or take, this will bump the card to 80% give it or take So i lock the framerate because running a game at 100 fps or 300 is the same when it comes to fluidity , technically to prevent tearing you gotta have similar vertical refresh rate to the fps (Basically i have a CRT monitor working at 85Hz, if i get less than 85 fps i get tearing and everything does not look as smooth) But this is going way off topic, what i mean is that this upgrade is a really smart investment both for gaming because i don't get random stutter anymore and because i save money from the electricity bill. tip: if you have a good rig and get over 1 million fps, limit it to something smaller but still comfortable and you'll get a lot of energy savings.
Talking about graphics cards, what are they doing? Graphics cards are already efficient when throttled down and are just getting better. Hopefully the EU will listen because manufacturers aren't likely to make different card types for the US and EU markets. I guess graphics will have to stop improving /s.

I only like the EU as a cultural organization, not a political one. They should stay out of stuff like this.
I only like the EU as a cultural organization, not a political one. Free travel, transportation of goods and work is fine and dandy, but micromanaging shit like this is just moving towards fascism, where a central organ controls everything, akin to the Soviet Union. Irregardless of what the people of FP believe; Now with sources of more idiocy from the EU; Quoted from the other page;
EU legislation overrides any juridisiction any individual country has within the EU. Personal computers are such an incredibly small part of overall energy useage that I can't imagine how it's worth the EU's time to write regulations for them.
Personal computers are such an incredibly small part of overall energy useage that I can't imagine how it's worth the EU's time to write regulations for them.
Its the EU; They will write laws governing how curved bananas may be to be sold. Are you really that surprised?
Nobody really listens to the EU when it comes to technology either way, so whatever.
Nobody really listens to the EU when it comes to technology either way, so whatever.
Not following what the EU says will result in a hefty fine and/or being brought up before the Supreme Court of the EU. Thusly, any and all EU members have to comply with all legislations, no matter how draconian or stupid it is, that the EU manages to put out.
Not following what the EU says will result in a hefty fine and/or being brought up before the Supreme Court of the EU.
Aren't there plenty of ways to get around some of the restrictions though? Like apple and that funny new charger.
