How is artistic vision bullshit? They wanted to make a social experiment multiplayer-focused game, so they didn't make an offline mode for it. It may be a silly decision but as an excuse it's a lot better than 'because we could lol'.
Personally, I don't think the company that produced "Sims 2 Ikea Home Stuff" and "Sims 3: Katy Perry Sweet Treats" have a shred of artistic vision.
you're posting on an internet forum complaining about having to be connected to the internet to play a video game. Maybe instead of posting about it you should just play the damn game on your existing internet connection. idk, it's not that hard to figure out.
You're posting on an internet forum complaining about people complaining about a video game. Just look at yourself.
So what if the thing you paid someone for is literally nonfunctional for days on end, stop whining go read a book gee whiz
"Days on end". It was a few days. Go to work, go outside, play another game. Is it really that huge of a deal? Did you take off work/school just to play Sim City or something?

When you say "No big deal, go do something else", you are literally saying to me "So what if this item doesn't work? You have plenty other items that work!" And yes, I do. And I'm happy with them because they do. But if I bought a bed and found out upon taking it home that the mattress isn't going to show up for half a week, and the guy who sold it to me knew that ahead of time, I wouldn't be exactly satiated with the knowledge that I still have a couch.

You said "days on end". I can play it right now. And what? You're saying EA knew that there was going to be severe server issues? That's a pretty big accusation. Technical problems happen in this technological world. Sim City is not the only game that has had a problematic launch. You guys are just making more noise about this because you have some vendetta against EA for some reason.
who cares ya'll are getting irl mad about video games just look at yourselves
I don't know where you have been for the last 5 years but videogames are long gone from their "teenager toys" position in society.
Where is that video of the twin towers crashing set to musical laughter when you need it
now they're toys for manchildren
now they're toys for manchildren
Do you have anything actually useful to say that doesn't involve "LOOK AT HOW I ZINGED THESE PEOPLE. ZING ME. ZING ME FOREVER. I use the Zings to validate myself as a mature, cool, person; unlike these dweebs." That's all I'm seeing you post here.
You guys are just making more noise about this because you have some vendetta against EA for some reason.
Yet it's one of the few where it's come to light that those responsible for said game basically outright lied to try and smooth over their launch troubles. I'd say that's worth a vendetta or two just on the face of that.
i don't know why people keep harping on the servers when the AI makes the game borderline unplayable
i don't know why people keep harping on the servers when the AI makes the game borderline unplayable
I have several cities going just fine.
You could play it a fews days after release. You said "days on end".
Days on end means "Days at a time". That is the official definition. Stating that the game was playable a few days after release also means that there were a few days before that where you couldn't. You just verified my statement.
I can play it right now.
Yeah, you can now. Doesn't meant that you couldn't for days before.
You could play it a fews days after release. Check him out, he's fun. [editline]01:41[/editline] Holy shit; I just finished writing that last sentence, left the topic, and got greeted by this. Talk about timing.
now they're toys for manchildren
Why are you even on this forum?
-snip-
Sir, EA made the 3DO which flopped, and now they make another flop which is SimCity 5 without any offline mode! I also add sources so that people know I'm not pulling things outta my ass
No, Trip Hawkins did. 3DO was a separate company.
So glad I did not purchase this shit product
Before the DRM arguments start. blahblahmultiplayerblahblahnodrmblahblahblah At this point the record player is falling apart
My love for you died when you ruined Spore, Maxis.
Despite all the controversy about the DRM bullshit, if you take the time to actually play Simcity, it really is quite relaxing. It's chill as fuck. They surprisingly did quite a lot to evolve the gameplay format from some of the older titles of this particular game series.
Just get Sim City 4: Deluxe Edition.
now they're toys for manchildren
I don't think you're in any position to call others manchildren when you're posting on an internet video game forum. Why do you act like you're so superior?
Can't you fix this by changing the game's ping time to 40 years with two changes in code?
These simcity stories are all the same. No change, just maxis being a twat. Getting sick of these
Why couldn't they have made it like Spore where single player contents are shared online and the game is still single player
Why couldn't they have made it like Spore where single player contents are shared online and the game is still single player
Because "piracy" and their "vision".
No it's a good thing, they need to learn from this. Having word their failure spread everywhere will force them rethink their policies and design process.
Not when the game still sells 1.1 million copies.
No, Trip Hawkins did. 3DO was a separate company.
Well, the 3DO has EA's pyramid, cube, and sphere on it. Does that count? Plus, Trip originally worked together with Apple (Guess what happened 4-6 years after Dark Castle was released on Mac? The disastrous Genesis/Megadrive and CD-i ports because of EA!) I was about to mention another 16-bit game EA (disguised as Manley and Associates) couldn't get right, as part of an EA Historic Tour I'm planning to do. You sure you want to hear/read more?
Watch them blame the games lack of success on pirates and use it as an excuse for more DRM.
Watch them blame the games lack of success on pirates and use it as an excuse for more DRM.
I think regardless at this point....one of two things will happen. EA will actually take heads out of asses and start treating customers with some respect and generally improve their services, while getting rid of the elephant in the room that is online DRM......or they won't, in which case, expect another simcity scandal next week.
